What for?
Can't say I trust any of them after SS/D and Toukiden got mediocre reviews when they're both fantastic hunting games.
-Awful hub world: I brought this up in the official thread, and somebody's defense was more-or-less that all hunting games are like this. That really isn't a good enough excuse for me...The visual design is incredibly boring--it's small, yet at the same time, is full of a ton of empty space. There's a pub, your bedroom, a shop, and nothing else of real note. Getting anywhere is a major hassle. Eventually you get quick travel, but at that point I wondered: why even bother having a hub world when you can just quick travel to the only 2 locations in the hub world worth going to? Adding to this, all the NPC's pretty much just line up along the walls and don't move--the hub just felt so lifeless. It's sad, because the game had such a cool concept, yet they were not able to implement AT ALL when it came to designing the hub world.
-Technical problems: This wasn't a huge issue for me, but there are a number of technical problems. Characters all of a sudden pop up in front of you in the hub (which in turn causes slowdown). Characters mouths still move after all their dialogue has been said--synched incorrectly. Animations are super stiff and robot-like. As a whole, the game feels unfinished.
-Poor pacing: After I played the first couple (?) missions I was still enjoying the game quite a bit...Then all of a sudden, I had to go do a bunch of stupid fetch-quests across the hub world. Totally killed the pace of the game.
-Tries to add a ton of different gameplay elements and fails: For example, they add stealth missions in the early game...Why? They are horrible. They also add a labyrinth in the hub world that you can explore to collect resources. It just isn't fun and feels so half-baked, like everything in the game.
-Very repetitive: Enjoy fighting the same abductors on the same stages over and over again. The game shipped missing a ton of modes (which to be fair, were promised as free updates), yet still had very limited variety in stages/enemy types.
Story and characters: To put it bluntly, the story and characters suck. I didn't finish the game, but from what I experienced the story wasn't really going anywhere. The characters are generic and unmemorable. The NPC's in the hub world have no personality and have nothing interesting to say at all.
Difficulty spike: I quit when the difficulty spike kicked in. I don't mind challenging games, but your A.I. teammates are idiots. Being able to micromanage them correctly is so frustrating, as they will randomly do dumb shit. I'll give them a command, and they will do the opposite. Even better, they will be getting killed by enemy troops or an abductor and just stand there. No evasion or anything. I think some of the recent patches have started to address the teammate A.I. and difficulty spike, but I can't say for sure, as I haven't touched the game since.
It's by far my least favourite game I played on my Vita.
