My friend just told me the eye can only see 30FPS

I know right?! But then, he kind of made me uncertain. He explained it as this: The human eye has a response-time of 30hz, where everything completely in sync with this would look completely smooth (if it has motion blur and so forth) but that we perceive higher framerates better because it means there's more information leading to a smaller chance of your eye getting out of sync with the video.

He's been teasing me for a while for being somewhat PC-masterrace, and he told me this when I remarked to DayZ looking really choppy on his PC.

I'm kind of stumped, I want to prove him wrong but I seem to not find any good sources that can disprove him.

Although he does say it's just a placebo effect from becoming an elitist blind to NeoGAF's words... It kind of pissed me off... I tried to explain how higher framerates lead to better reponsetime and smoother gameplay, but he just mocked me.

My dad that's almost blind in one eye can tell the difference between 30 and 60. Tell your friend he's full of shit.

Eyes do not update in frames. The eyes updates tiny spots all the time and your brain keeps it all assembled so it gives a full picture of your what you perceive as the image in front of you.

Being elitist doesn't change your vision.

There IS a difference between 30 and 60 FPS. It's a fact. Don't see how it's even debatable to be honest.

Whether or not you mind is another thing. Just don't deny the difference.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
If you can't see a difference between 30fps and 60fps you better get your eyes checked.

I hear this a lot and uh no.

Sure you dont really notice what one calls a delay but it isnt as smooth. It is different though...

I tried showing him the comparisons, but he refused.

Now I'm pretty pissed off, he does this from time to time, just completely dismissing while adding false context.

Come on bro, you're having trouble finding sources to disprove his nonsense? Really? Placebo effect? REALLY?

Maybe he just wants you to shut up about game performance.
A good way to accomplish that is to say "stop talking to me about game performance," rather than making up a ridiculous story and presenting it as fact, making yourself look really dumb in the process.

60 fps isn't about what you're seeing, it's about the feel and controls. I don't know why people aren't getting this.

Tell him that is why we have two eyes. So we can see in 60 fps. Stupid statements deserve stupid responses.

Do his ears also not hear surround sound?
Perfect.

The eye can perceive much more than 30 "FPS". Just move your hand around in front of your face and it's obvious. Even better, go get a game that gives you the option to switch between fixed 30 and fixed 60, then tell me there's no difference, please.

The difference between 30 and 60 fps is obvious.

Past 60 fps there's almost no difference (I can't see any, personally.)

Your eye can see the difference between 50/60hz and 120hz output, its him that has the problem, i suppose it is a good deficiency to have, I would be able to play through some more games. :)
