ALONE by Laser Dog, coming tonight at midnight...

Ah, man, you're lucky. Been anticipating this, sounds great

Can somebody recommend a nice looking, well, "non game" to me?

I often have some time to spend, like waiting in a meeting room for others to arrive, waiting for somebody to put down the phone - situations like this, where I have a minute, but it's not enough to play a "real" game on which I'd have to concentrate.

So I'd like to have something to fiddle with. Flicking a disk around, tapping to shoot some fireworks, tilting the device to make a puppet move, just some stuff that looks pretty or slick to pass the time, without any fail state or objectives. Not quite a game, more like a toy.

I'm sure there are some apps like this, but I wouldn't know where to start looking. "Non game" or something isn't a really useful search term.

Any hints or recommendations?

Lucky is the perfect description... I was reading my Twitter feed and saw a couple of promo codes, they were posted hours ago, but, what the heck... I tried one and it worked :D

ALONE is great, and so its 8bit Dove, or TNTBF3, or Pentumble, or........... a long long list full of recent awesome releases. And tonight The Nightmare Cooperative and Back to Bed... Good iOS times.

Lots of interesting stuff tonight, while I've been trying to reign in my spending.

I've played BioShock on 360 and, honestly, would like to leave that awesome experience locked away rather than try it on my tiny 5S screen. Great for people who haven't even able to play it though.

Alone will probably make the cut for purchases tonight.

Holy Moly - VVVVVV is sweet!

I gave Dodo Master Pocket edition a spin earlier today and same away impressed also. I'm always on the lookout for a good platformer on my IOS devices, with the HD version on sale it's basically a no-brainer :)

Looking forward Nightmare Cooperative tonight, even if I already have many games to play, and I'm enjoying all of them equally (Motorsports Manager, Star Realms).
Recently added Dodo Master too....I'm loving it...played 2 hours yesterday night without noticing (on iPhone too...too bad it's not universal and no iCloud sync)...completed 3 or 4 'doors'....loving that mechanic, perfect for mobile.

No interest personally on Bioshock, having already completed it long ago....but trying to deplete backlog in anticipation of The Banner Saga.

And I just discovered the last chapter of Infinity Blade, wrapping up the story, will be out next week....

Indeed it's a great iOS time.

I bought Mountain a few weeks ago. It's nice, but nothing really happens quick enough to spend a fleeting minute with.

But Acrobots is the exact style of "game" I've been looking for. Thank you! Other, similar "game" recommendations are still very appreciated.
Perhaps Topia World Builder? No real objectives, just mold the world, drop animals down, see what happens
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/topia-world-builder/id534282109

Backflip Madness technically has objectives but really the fun comes messing around, doing your own thing
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/backflip-madness/id564874986

I just busted out Infinite Flight after a long hiatus and am now on a flight sim kick. Is Infinite Flight better than X-Plane? I like IF but the scenery looks pretty bad. Also, are there no iOS flight sims with a global map? I'd love to take a 777 across the country instead of taking off from SFO, flying around, and landing in OAK. IF's plane roster is also heavy on the big airliners - would be good to have more variety.

What other good flight sims are out there? What about the combat sims?

Damn...I forgot that next week even Valiant Hearts will be out!!!

And Touch Arcade seems to imply/speculate that soon even Child of Light will be announced.

I always recommend Alpaca Evolution/Alpaca Evolution Begins/I Am Giraffe because it's a nice time based idle thing to tap on, that also contains a super strange story.

More or less you start out as an alpaca in a field of alpaca, and you tap on other alpaca to absorb them and fill a meter. When you fill the meter, your alpaca evolves. The evolutions start moderately weird, but end up being completely insane. Each evolution comes with a journal entry explaining the evolution, which is some bizarrely funny writing.

"He mainly attacks using his hands. In his free time, he smokes cigarettes, just because he can".

Dunno if it qualifies the "nice looking" part, but it's been my go-to idle thing to tap on for a minute or two.

(It's in English. This is just the best non-spoiler screen I could find).

Also, they just released a short story thing called Wonder tree house. It's also pretty weird, and plays slightly similarly.

Rad. Downloading it now.

Tiny Tower Vegas is out.

I've created the NEOGAF group, if anyone wants to join. :D
Not sure how long I can play another Tiny Tower game but I'll give it a try all the same! Hopefully it's not buggy and doesn't eat my save like Death Star did. :(

Ahhh...what the fuck? On evolution 4, this game is insane...but must keep tapping. Definitely better than Cookie Clicker

I typed in NEOGAF in the Players Club in TT and I think I joined? There's no sort of feedback difference to know if you just created a new group or joined an existing one.

lol yeah, it doesn't stop getting insane. So good.

It's like a car wreck. I almost don't want to keep tapping, because it's so body horror grotesque, but I must. I must see what comes next

Edit: and there's a prequel

Bought Back to Bed but it isn't clicking with me for the moment, whats clicking is... The Nightmare Cooperative (by "Bad Hotel" developer Lucky Frame)... is freakishly addictive, I love it. The presentation is beautiful, and the rogue like puzzle gameplay managing different heroes at the same time is wonderful. I like the potions, you dont have to choose from a list of things and wonder, here, if you wantm you pick up a potion and do the stuff with your hero of choice. So far, there is always your choice. It strategic and effective. I also like that enemies left behind stay behind, the enemies, the gold for score thing... everything. Its so well thought and balanced. I love it.

Holy shit! It's finally out!

A friend of mine is one of the men behind 232 Studios. I'm thrilled to finally be able to buy his game! Give it a go people!
Is it Neil? Been chatting with him over email and Twitter.

Really enjoying Epic Eric. Could be a tad more difficult but it's charming, fun, and has some great level design. Another excellent display of the versatility of one touch controls

Plays well on iPhone?

No idea, I've only been able to play ten minutes or so. If you're OK with FPS on touchscreen, I'm sure it'll be fine. If not, I can't see it changing your mind.

Personally, I think I might just've hit my tipping point for buying an iOS controller. I've been holding out for the Mad Catz pad because it looks great, but I'm starting to think it's vapourware and I'd be better off just ordering a SteelSeries Stratus instead. £59.99 and it'll be here by the weekend. Can't shake the feeling it'll be too small for comfort though.

Maybe it's time I looked into jailbreaking.

Why, yes it is! Or Cowboy, as he's affectionately known amongst his friends.

He's a fucking awesome dude, and he's deeply passionate about his work. They're very talented guys with some exciting projects up their sleeves, so I hope everyone gives them a shot.

Aside from Bioshock, if one were to pick just one or two of last night's releases, what would you recommend the most?

I have no idea what games you like, but I have spent all morning playing Epic Eric. 69p well spent. I'll write some proper impressions a bit later.

Mickey Mouse: Castle of Illusion is 69p/$1 today.

I bought it and completed the first level, but the virtual d-pad controls were too annoying for me to want to continue playing.

Looks like Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage will be free later tonight when the App Store updates. It's one of the Rovio Stars games that ended up getting 2014 GotY at Pocket Gamer.

I really enjoyed this until the game kept on crashing on me. Every time I beat the boss it would crash my iPad Mini Retina.

LOL. Guess that's a solid recommend for The Nightmare Cooperative.

Been getting a lot of platformers lately, so will keep Epic Eric on the back burner. Thinking Alone and The Nightmare Cooperative.

Was looking at Back to Bed but reaction seems mixed.

Damn. Why does Bioshock come out the week I unexpectedly get laid off from my job. :( .Oh well... I guess it forces me to work on my absurd backlog. A friend did gift me Rules! and it is fantastic. Looks like a pretty good week for iOS gaming.

Someone over at the Toucharcade forums is claiming that Bioshock works just fine on the iPad 3rd generation. He said he tried on the iPod Touch 5th generation and it didn't work.

Thanks. It was a pretty toxic environment I should have left long ago. Guess I can be loyal to a fault. This will just make me find a new job, like I already should have.
