Xbox One sold 23k during launch week in Japan, TitanFall best-selling title

No wonder WB said nah fuck it, ps4 only.
Legitimately not worth the most basic text translation, QA and certification/publishing costs at some point. And that's incredibly sad. When niche groups bring stuff to the West an English localization is at least a product that far more consumers can play than going the opposite direction into the smaller market.

This is why a ton of big third-party stuff is Sony exclusive in Japan. No one wants to spend a single dime localizing to JP. Sony doesn't even need to pay for the rights to a bonus PR tag and bragging rights. Honestly quite interested in seeing how many units Destiny sells, however, and we'll know that in 10-12 days.
Should beat the PS4 and Wii U. So th best selling home console.
For ...one week, yes, probably, though 3DS and Vita are likely the two top spots overall. We're probably looking at Vita TV-level weekly sales once things are settled.

So weird

I can get in with other place.

But in GAF, I can't enter.

Forgive me.

No worries.

So what are we expecting to hear from Microsoft's PR after this announcement? I think they've run out of marathons, sports and horse/cart metaphors to explain the situation they're in.

Then again, they always manage to surprise me.

I severely doubt we'll hear any PR from MS specific to the Japan launch

Just who the bloody hell is calling this a good launch!?

360 had a really good Japanese support at launch / around launch, and a lot of promises from Japanese developers. Dead or Alive 4, Capcom exclusives (Lost Planet, Dead Rising), Square Enix exclusives (Star Ocean IV, Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Remnant), Namco exclusives (Eternal Sonata, Tales of Vesperia, Ace Combat V, Ridge Racer VI, Katamari Damacy, Idolmaster), Sega exclusives (Chromehounds), and some Ms support such as Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. In a time where all Sony exclusives were going multi (Resident Evil 5, Devil May Cry 4, Final Fantasy XIII).

yeah. even though the xbox 360 launched lower than the original xbox, it did fairly well for itself in comparison to its predecessor. more than a couple games managed to crack 100k on the platform.

BREAKING: XBOX 1 OUTSELLS PLAYSTATION 4 AND WII U IN JAPAN

Congrats Microsoft on expanding into second tier countries and continuing your record setting world wide sales rate.

/sarcasm

I'm disappointed that this wasn't the first post.

Dayum girl!!

Honestly terrible even if you don't compare with other systems. But maybe a little more than I was expecting going off the launch indications which looked poor. Though expectations were super low. So well done MS for beating those :p

If they can maintain half of these numbers for like 2 more weeks they can send out a PR piece saying Xbone outsold PS4 at least in one country...

It's Xbox and Japan. I don't know what people expected. The 360 has been selling in the hundreds like forever

Only 23k? Good grief, that's just awful. DOA indeed.

Small wonder that the likes of Destiny and Batman: Arkham Knight are going to be PS4 exclusive in Japan.

How are people saying "not too bad" about this? In 4 days they managed 7% of what the PS4 did in 2 days. Or in other words, the PS4 sold 14 times as much in half the time.

Ok, so we already knew MS struggles in Japan. But this is still much worse than previous launches. The XBO, in 4 days, did 23% of what the original Xbox did in 3 days, or 37% of what the 360 did in 2 days.

It's terrible. By far the worst Japanese Xbox launch ever.

It's not bad, basically the same launch numbers as the original Xbox:

Xbox 123k
Xbox one23k

Some research on "things that happen to 23k Japanese citizens every week" might be fun. For example, "more Japanese caught an STD at love hotels this week than people who bought a console at launch", or "more Japanese were victims of upskirting perverts than there were people who bought Microsoft's newest hardware". Or "more Japanese walk past the Microsoft store in [fill in the name of a major train station] in one hour than bought a new Xbox nationwide in the first week. ((Statistics are Tales From My Ass))

And to anyone calling it a solid launch, I really want to know how low your original expectations were. They had 15 months of pre-order time before launch. 15 months. Plus it includes the "mech effect" Microsoft was hoping to gain out of Titanfall.

I wonder what XB1 will stabilise at?

Wii U and PS4 seem to hover between 6k and 15k. 3DS and Vita seem to hover between 20k and 40k.

XB1 - 1k - 3k would be my guess.

What was the 360 doing in the months after launch, as I think I'll be half that at least.

That is much better than I expected which was like 1200 units. This is Xbox in Japan. Xbox has never been remotely popular in Japan.

You do realise that Japan is ultimately, a country of 125+ million?

Never being remotely popular doesn't mean it has no niche. Terrible stuff have sold thousands.

A niche in a country like Japan still has potential of several hundred thousand lifetime.
