Xbox One: More Successful Than The Neo Geo Pocket

(Although didn't the NGP have some small legs after that slow start?)

How come the PS3 numbers are so low ? Were there no games at launch or did the Japanese just not bother since they had PS2s ?

Also, now I am looking forward to the number of consoles sold in China

So will the 360 soon be taken off the Famitsu/Media Create charts now?

Also do you think the XB1 could even catch up to the Vita TV? I guess their biggest exclusive JP like game is Scalebound? (Considering the W101, I'm sure this will bomb even worse in JP).

It's not that bad, is it?

2012.12.08 [Nintendo Wii U] (¥26.250 / ¥31.500) - 308.570 (2 days)
2014.02.22 [Sony PlayStation 4] (¥41.979 / ¥46.179)- 322.083 (2 days)
2014.09.04 [Microsoft XBox One] (¥43.178 / ¥53.978) - 23,562 (4 days)

lol

I honestly don't know why Microsoft even bothered with Japan this generation. It was clear to all that the Xbox One was going to sell a paltry amount over there, even by the brand standards. They're better off not burning their money in a futile bid to win over the Japanese and just ignore that region completely.

Worst console launch in Japan of all time, damn.

I have no idea why they still bother with that region to be honest.

Considering the state of the market (consoles selling like shit, PS4 is already a well established console) the sales are acceptable.

sales are acceptable.......lol

This is the worst console launching in gaming history by far. The number of PS4's sold in one month will probably be more than the number of XB1's sold in 7 years and PS4 didn't even do that well.

If I had to guess it may be relationships with companies like Capcom and Square-Enix; they have gotten quite a bit of love and exclusives from them and without even launching on their home turf. At least now they can say "we tried. Let's focus on the west."

I doubt it's for that reason because there's a real probability that titles from those companies are going to be PS4 Japan exclusive anyway.

Those numbers are horrible even with the japanese console industry in shambles.

PS4 had a launch that was almost 15 times larger, that's more than an order of magnitude difference.

These are horrible numbers. No two ways about it.

How could this not be bad? The Console market in Japan may not be very healthy but 23k is terrible for a launch.

I didn't say good, I mean they're not even trying this time so this number was expected.

Real talk, but with PS4 slowly dying in Japan, Xbone dead on arrival in Japan, WiiU just a distant memory, I can see this being the last traditional console generation well see.

At this point im wondering why they launched there.

Dont they have any market projections that should have told them they lose a shitload of money?

xbox one launch numbers are so bad that they're a new kind of bad. you know how people compare the wii u and the ps4 to the dreamcast? the xbox one will be one of those
for all next gen consoles

Did anybody ever expect it to be a success?
For God's sake, even PS4 hasn't really took off in Japan and we are talking about Xbone having a bad launch? :D

Must have been, there's no way it has that kind of attach rate by itself.
They are into mechs over there though... Oh wait, they can't be called mechs right? Because the designers say otherwise?

Don't think they will argue the point if their game sells there.

I'm surprised to see a K on the number, to be honest. I was expecting more like 2300.

Yea but even 2300 technically has a K (2.3K). Unless you meant 230, which I wouldn't have been surprised if it did. What this tells me is that there is a small group of hardcore Xbox fans in Japan that love shooters.

That's... very low. But it was expected. MS offered zero appealing games for Japanese market, even after it's predecessor failed at that same job when they were actively focused on crafting new software.

Xbone was doomed to failure in Japan from the moment Mistwalker games for X360 failed to push Japanese gamers to move toward MS. Before that point, X360 had at least some [small] chance.

23k is good to some people? talk about lowered expectations.

You can say that I guess, but I see the numbers as being on target for MS by looking at the recent trends of EU sales.
It would be bad if they predicted 100k, and only managed 23k.
But if their expected sales were in the low 30-40k, 23k isn't bad.
Lowered expectations? Nah, MS is just keeping it real and trying to be accurate on their forecast.

No company expect a decent sale of their games on Xbone in Japan. If MS need to maintain relationships with Japanese publishers, all the talk must be about global market. That's why I still don't understand why MS even try. I predict many Japanese multiplat games will be PS4 exclusive in Japan but available on both Xbone and PS4 anywhere else.

I had that thought before I posted, but I went with it anyway because who cares at that point.
