Final Fantasy XV TGS 2014 Trailer | Lord Nomura giveth us His only Son so we may live

Just saw the trailer.

My interest for this game that was slowly dropping is now rising.

I guess that was the point .

I like :
-the graphics
-the environnements
-The scale of some of the monsters ( hope we can beat the big one at the start )
-The music.

As expected of S-e

That is the most bizarre FF trailer I have ever seen. I guess they were going for something completely different in terms of mood which is interesting and some of it looked incredible but watching the combat sections and I have no idea how the combat is going to work. Was that some sort of QTE when Noctis is at low health at the 2 min mark?

I'm still excited to play this even after all this time though.

They are in the middle of nowhere in the desert/forest. What is there supposed to be other than what you'd find in the nature.

I don't think it's asking too much of a current gen video game for even desert environments to have a bit of sparse beauty about them, rather more so when it's a fantasy game in a fictional world. It looks flat, uninteresting and lacks any kind of detail that might pique the curiosity; the far hills and mountains are almost single-colour. I'm not sure it's going too far to say Red Dead Redemption had more about it than this in terms of environment art design.

But, look, it's a single, short clip that just stuck out to me. You don't have to leap to the defence of everything.

New for me

Are we even sure this is Stella? It's implied her name is Luna. I know they could of changed it but they haven't changed any one else's name or design this drastically that I am beginning to consider it might be a new character.

Maybe there is still hope for OG Stella

Looks gorgeous. The blonde guy with the hair change is already irritating me. Combat is a bit slow, too. And I wish it wasn't such a sausage fest in my party, but maybe that changes later on? But day one...whenever that may be.

It could be her sister, given Stella - Star, Luna - Moon, which would explain how similar she looks, but I doubt it.

I expected it to look better TBH, it looks marginally better than Xenoblade X (and it doesn't seem to have the scale that game does either in the environments). Other than that I did like what I saw and was much better than the earlier trailers.

I think xenoblade x looks great but this looks way better. Just the quality of the environments alone.

Well, you played the worst and most atypical of the FF games. Looking "fine" compared to that is not that much of an accomplishment lol. The Jpop stuff really isn't in the games before XIII (excluding X-2), it's a shame the series went in a more juvenile direction. I don't really understand the hype either and I used to be a huge FF fan. This game has been in development (hell?) forever, changed directors and Square Enix doesn't exactly have the best track record in recent years, especially with Final Fantasy.

I hope this game won't be a hot mess because looking at that trailer it doesn't really have its own identity, I see more Xenoblade and Kingdom Heart inspiration than a Final Fantasy game.

While it's true that the game suffers a serious development issue, it actually has its own identity now, based on the latest trailer. It's a "road trip" kind of adventure across an unique, vast world made up of contemporary and fantasy environment, it's a story about a group of male friends escaping from/pursuing their opposing enemies with the ultimate goal to restore their nation's crystal to the rightful owner.

Its battle system is and always has been action-oriented, kind of like Kingdom Hearts, but has more weight and focuses on group dynamics more. Aside from its large scope for world exploration, I don't see where the fuzz about Xenoblade inspiration coming from.

wow, i'm actually really super impressed.

after the clusterfuck that was THREE terrible 13 games, and an MMO.... square may still have some life in em left.

Why? To be PC?

The FF series always had great female characters, get your fedora shit outta here. #GOOBERGATE

Clusterfuck? And people say I am arrogant online.

The problem with this is that it's too ambiguous.
- The trailer dialogue speaks about Luna and then it cuts to Stella, but it may be cut intentionally as a red herring, with the dialogue referring to a different woman, but edited to appear this way
- 'Luna' may be be a name Stella is using to hide her identity, didn't early story details pit Stella against Noctis? (in the iconic face-off CG) so perhaps she's forced to assume a different identity to meet him outside of the battlefield
- In keeping with Shakespearean style (as the game is clearly inspired), there may be a case of switched identity, so perhaps Stella/Luna are one in the same/ different people acting as the same person (sisters)
- Stella may be renamed Luna

Could be any one of these, we just don't know, but I think it being a new character is fairly unlikely.

No that doesn't look like QTE to me. It actually looks like a legit game mechanics in which your character moves/reacts much slower physically at near death status. This means playing smart/defensive to avoid reaching critical state is important.

Never said FF didn't have good female characters. But from the current trailers, the dynamics seem seriously focused on the boys. Hell, the last trailer had tons of people disputing this very thing with it being a sausage fest. I just don't see anything wrong with FF, or any game taking a route of the main group being only men (or only women, or only mixed!) It's just the impression I am getting from this so far is that a female party member might not happen so soon. Hey, if they do introduce them (I have a feeling the black haired one will join in) then great. If not. Then again, great. I don't really see a problem either way, personally.

Final Fantasy XV – Episode Duscae takes place near the beginning of Final Fantasy XV – but certain elements will be different from the final game. This is a special demo and we want you to get hands on with a unique first-play experience that will be able to give you a better feeling for the game as a whole. While we don’t want to give too much of the final game away in Episode Duscae we do want you to have a much better understanding of Final Fantasy XV by the end of it.

Episode Duscae is set near the beginning of Final Fantasy XV so you don’t have to worry about any major plot spoilers and you’ll be able to explore a certain part of the world and experience the new battle system.

I never played a FF game before. But this looked good. I love what the environments look like (the scale is just awesome) and the mix of realistic and fantasy elements.

i love how fluid the combat looks. they've clearly put a lot of care into that, and it shows.

WebMs have stopped working on my Safari =[
PLEASE GIVE ME THE JIFSSSSSS

OK glad it's not just me. i installed firefox just to be able to WEBM :/

i'm sure there'll be a female character in there eventually, there always is. i'd personally see it as being pretty regressive if it's only dudes in there.

whoever at Square is naming these subtitles needs to cool it... Episode Duscae? these words don't make sense!

I knew they'd be showing a trailer. I knew it!

I told all you doubters and blasphemers that it was coming but you all laughed at me and SE. Now who is laughing!?

Though I am sad to see my Lord and Savior Nomura taken from this project I know in my heart he is giving KHIII all the attention it deserves and has left us with this grand trailer. I mean hot dog this gameplay looks amazing.

But it's not flat, there are plenty of elevational differences, there's that huge "astral shard" in flame, there are some of those unrealistic cliff formations, there are mountain ranges in the background and some smaller rock formations nearby, there are oasises/small ponds/lakes rivers, buildings at the side of the road, there's a lot of different kind of weird wildlife to wonder at and then there's even that huge monster the size of a small mountain. I think it looks perfect just as it is. Kind of grounded in reality but with some fantastical elements thrown in.

Well it's Final Fantasy alright, graphics up the wazoo, but graphics aren't a priority for me anymore, overall it's an okay trailer.

I expect a killer story in which I care for the characters. I hope it delivers, it's been such a long time since I've cared for anything Square Enix has done.

Will say though, I hope they show a trailer in which Noctis uses magic or something.

All of that isn't in the webm that I was actually referring to though, was it?

Haha, no. Frankly I'm probably the last person to care about political correctness. I just think it would add to the group dynamic to have a female member. That said, I'd be perfectly happy with just the guys we've seen up to now if they all have interesting, multifaceted personalities.
