Congratulations Hiro! Fantastic accomplishment :D

Thanks, Blargonaut! Step 1 to riches and fame a nice personal accomplishment. :D

HP...that is simply amazing, congrats on your work.=O

Thank you, Timu! A lot of other people had a hand in it, so I'm hoping for success so that they can recoup what they put into it at least. A great experience overall, though.

Oh, I linked to it on irc and then forgot to say anything here. :p

Congrats, H.Pro!

Thanks, Cyan! It never would have happened at all if not for your thread and neogaf in general. I even used to pop into the Men's Fashion thread for advice on what some characters should wear...

The power of GAF. *_*

Also, there's a Writing GAF irc? I did not know!

The complete e-book (.pdf, .mobi, and .epub formats available) with all the illustrations and two bonus stories can now be purchased here: http://sparklermonthly.com/shop/ebooks/dead-endings-digital-edition/

Awesome work and I hope it does incredibly well.

Also:

Screw it. I'm in. I've been musing over writing a novel for ages, but just haven't gotten off my ass and done it. Maybe this is the way. I'm scared crunch time at work will suck up my soul, but when you're pressed sometimes you come up with good ideas, so I'll give it a go.

Novel Writing-Age: NaNoWriMo 2015 | Not so Grim

Because it is flat out inspiring.

Congrats HP! That artwork looks amazing and the premise sounds great. Good luck!

Cosmic, go with the flow. I'm writing some dark shit now too. Don't worry about how others view it. Write for yourself.

<3 So glad to hear that!

Nah, I was on the mod irc talking you up. ;) No Writing GAF irc that I know of. Though we do have Google+ writing hangouts every other week in the writing challenge thread!

Woo, HPro!

Thanks, Jintor! :D

Oh, man. I remember that. I was this close to just creeping on the thread and not joining because it seems so insane to try and meet the requirements with everything else going on. In the end I just realized I'd given myself plenty of excuses over the years for not finishing (or starting) when writing, and if I actually wanted it I needed to actually try. NaNoWriMo was exactly what I needed, and I hope others bite that bullet and give it a go because it might be exactly what they need too.

Thanks, man. You were there from the start when I had the rough drafts and when the first chapter finally went up on Sparkler. I really appreciate that. That was one of the things that kept me going too.

Thanks, Angmars! I know it's a well trod topic for a book, but I hope the characters and their less than awed approach to the situation will make for entertaining reading. The art is a very happy bonus to all that. Without Irene I'm not sure I'd have half as much interest...

Ooooo, secret mod irc. Knew you guys had a round table or underground lair somewhere where you steepled your fingers and tut-tut-ed over things here.

Thank you for the mention! Besada posted in GG about it already and might have a look. It makes me nervous as hell since it's not exactly high art, but really happy too. Cheers for the support!

It's now exactly one month until NaNoWriMo...which means Copper Resistance will be written next month...I seriously can't wait, I'm so ready to write this.

I really need to start sending my stuff out . . . but I want to keep revising!

Reading perfectly crafted stories makes me feel like I need to hone my all the more.

(Also congrats! That's fantastic, HP)

I'm working on a Python script to scrape people's NaNo wordcounts from their posts and make me have to do less manual updating during the month.

Of course, if you actually parcel it out, I've probably spent more time so far learning Python and working on this dumb thing than it would ever take me to update the wordcounts manually... but whatever, this is kinda fun.

NaNo thread should be up in about two weeks, as usual. ;)

It's an investment. After 40 more NaNos you'll come up almost even!

congrats, awesome work!

i really should finish up my half finished novella.

Do eeeeeeeet. No regrets in life!

Thanks, yo~ And you should just bite the bullet and send it out. Over-fiddling might actually hurt your work more in the long run. If you're still worried, get an outsider to do one more pass then just let it fly from there.

I always thought that updating those must be really cumbersome for you. It spurred you to learn something totally new, so no loss if doesn't work out, though.
I totally expect flashy word counters in two weeks.

I helped write your video game for you. It came out yesterday and the kids they seem to like it.

You should buy it or else. I am just saying.

Wow. Congrats! That's pretty awesome.

Good so far! Getting back into the groove of things now. More so that I had people comment on Seasonals and seem very supportive so far.

Feedback leads to productivity. It is known. :) Keep it going!

I know, I know. I have a few that really should be floating out right now. Maybe that's what I'll do this weekend, ontop of all my homework and lesson plans.

Hey, Writing-GAF.

Congrats to H-Pro.

I have a grammatical question. Are these sentences grammatically correct?

"She wrapped her arms around his waist and carried him off the ground, tackling him."

"She declared, screaming."

Someone I know said it isn't, because there's a past and a present verb in the same sentence. I thought the "ing" words were further describing the previous verbs. Any further clarification would be helpful, because if this is a problem... I have a lot of corrections to make.

They're grammatically incorrect, but understandable. They do read a little awkwardly though.

But why wouldn't you just say "She tackled him to the ground" or "She screamed"? You don't necessarily have to spell out every action to convey the same meaning.

Sober

No, it's correct grammatically, the first verb is past tense and the other is the infinitive ... I think that's how that should be explained. If the first verb were in the present tense it would only prove your tense is in the present.

I was at the gym when I typed that but my English grammar (despite being a native speaker) is utter shit. But I applied the dumb grammar I actually know about French into it.

Also it's the present participle if you wanna wikipedia that or something.

I would actually recommend finding a non-native speaker to explain English grammar to me because they would actually have to learn that shit.

English grammar is a fucking mess though, Romance language grammar is so organized in comparison.

Yeah learning Japanese at the moment is doing wonders for making me think about concepts that I kind of just intuitively use in English

Thank you Sober and Jintor, I feel much better now.

Depends, how many millions do you need to sell to make it viable? Assuming it is 0, then yes.

It's really can I go to a publisher and say hey...this is it. If nothing comes of it then ok. I wouldn't want a project to be dead before I even started really. Thanks though.

Out of interest, if you're writing scripts why would your aim be to release them as a book and not have them filmed?

Have a question....would it be a viable option to write short scripts as a book?

Do you mean a collection of short plays? Or a collection of dialogue-only/heavy short stories? The former is possible if you get them performed by a theatre company, the latter could happen if you got a few of them published in lit journals.

Not plays....never written one before. Just short stories, some in script form, probably no longer than 15 pages.

I'm writing full length too. Have a few finished. Doing this writing challenge here has me liking the short form and was wondering how this would work. I know it's odd which is why I wanted to throw it out there before I even started. The whole book wouldn't just be scripts, I would include short stories in the traditional sense too. Just a collection of stories- different formats, different genres and so forth.

Considering running an ad with awesomegang. They seem like a pretty good operation, with maybe not the biggest reach but I suppose I should start somewhere.

Anyone else use them? And if not them, anyone have a suggestion for inexpensive advertising that's also effective?

Used them, but it didn't net me a single sale. This was also when I had zero reviews, so it might be different with you.

I've used Indie Author New and this other Kindle site, both of which also did nothing. So far the only thing that's actually gotten me a greater number of sales (than usual) is having a countdown deal directly after a Goodreads giveaway.

Hoping Book Gorilla changes that.

Found a new (well I probably picked it up in a sale at some point) book on my Amazon Library and started reading it... it's this really lovely oral history, which makes me want to write an oral history. Lol.

Goddamn me.

Didja do it? :D

Cheers, L. Looks like your question got answered as well. It's like Sober said. English grammar IS a right fucking mess.

Did you end up running the ad? And if you did, any luck? I'm watching what you and cosmic do quite closely. :D

This is really cool, congrats yo.

Doing Nano this year is going to be hell, I can already feel it.

Thanks, masterful dairy product! I'm modestly hopeful about the whole thing. Don't know if anyone is actually buying it, but I have three reviews* on their site at least!

And Nano is always hell, but in a good way, right? :D

*One is my sister...
I'll take what I can get.

I haven't. Cosmic's lack of success with it was not heartening.

Again, you may have different results. You have 7 reviews with a 5 star average while I had like 1 4 star review back then. It very well might make a difference. You may just have a more appealing product all around

It might be good to get more accounts from elsewhere before writing it off completely. One person's experience with it may not be the norm. There are definitely worse sites to advertise on considering the price. Just do not under any circumstances pick the more expensive ones like Indie Author News (Book Bub being the exception supposedly).

Started working with a friend last night on a particularly insane new project - a modern dystopian choose your own adventure book examining the concepts of free will and the illusion of choice wrapped up in a labyrinthine structure of a book you can literally get lost in.

Never let it be said that I think small.

Yep good point. Maybe this weekend I'll jump in.
