Sunset Overdrive Review Thread

With good reviews I think it'll have some pretty good legs overral. Only issue is the slew of AAA monsters starts next week with CoD

Yea, it's in a tough spot being followed up by major releases each week for the next month or so. I do think it'll get some decent sales in December though as I expect it to be a title Microsoft features heavily in their holiday push after Black Friday.

Looks fun. Can't wait for that PC version!

How about when compared to inFamous: SS in terms of story and side-missions? I'm all for mindless fun, but it needs to at least feel varied in options.

If I remember, I think Infamous may have been longer. I had more fun here. Infamous kind of screwed over the parkour side of things, while in Sunset it's a bigger, more fluid part.

Is the story that good?

I mean, I like the script, but it's not that amazing or anything.

How is the story?

I enjoyed it, but after the palette change the knifes were out on it unfortunately.

Rightfully so, I feel, at least in most respects - I mean, outside of the core gameplay (which isn't really all that interesting, though it is very solid and has great shooting mechanics) the game is as bland as they come. I'm glad SO looks like a return to form for Insomniac. Good for them.

Only played the demo, nothing really drew me in.

I too played and was underwhelmed by the demo, but the full game is quite a bit funner and it's definitely worth a rental or a cheap buy. (play on the hardest difficulty though because the game is easy as heck)

Other times, we get to see genuine cleverness married to a wry observation of videogame design. The nameless protagonist makes fun of NPCs that magically disappear after cutscenes end, or smugly informs allies that even if they die, he/she will be fine and "Just respawn over there somewhere." The self-aware banter is woven so casually into the script that it works a lot better than it should, and once the hero starts complaining about NeoGAF tearing the game apart, you know you're in a world crafted by people who love games maybe a bit too much.

Haha

Hahahahaha

I've only played 2.5 hours of it, but what I thought would maybe end up being a mediocre title I wouldn't like all that much, has turned out to be a lot of fun.

Interesting. Maybe will pick up down the road. The premise of the game does not excite me a lot. But down the road maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, when I get around to buying it for my Xbox.

Thanks for the replies. inFamous was a solid rental for me, so it sounds like Sunset may be the same type of deal.

Yeah, but a lot of people still need a console for that, and the so bundle looks a lot more tempting now that the reviews are out...

my only wish (without having played it) is that the game has or implements the ability to turn off auto-aim.

From what I've played, and it was very brief (an hour and a half), trying to shoot without the auto aim assists on the rails would be near impossible with a controller.

As an Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive is a real coup for Microsoft, a must-buy for anyone with the system, and for those without as good a reason as any to consider acquiring one.

Ups Bright, humorous, and engaging presentation. Weird and entertaining arsenal. A game that's happy to be a game. Serviceable story. Quality multiplayer.

Downs A bit of a learning curve.

Shame I don't know a single person with an XBO. I feel like this game needs to be seen in person. Looks so vibrant and fun.

Solid scores, and a great return to form for Insomniac. Hopefully, SO is just the base, and the sequels will be way better.

Great reviews.
An exclusive bundle.
Extensive marketing.
Unique setting that sets it apart.
And it looks just so much fun.

I guess only marketing could in fairness help, out of these... All the others mean jack shit saleswise.

I hope it sells well, because I had lots of fun with it. But I'm afraid it will drown between the high profile november releases fast
