No thoughts I guess?
Bonza World Puzzle is currently on sale for freeI have tried a lot of these games. So far Bonza is the one that I have played the most. Its a twist on word games in that you are combining word segments in more of a crossword style, but its got me hooked.

I'm hoping this doesn't have to do with Republique...Let's just say that some people in the thread have certain feeling towards TA for reasons other than the site's coverage. But that's not a discussion for this thread
I totally agree. There are so many games worth playing on iOS that I really don't want one game to demand all of my time. Unfortunately, a lot of games focus on keeping players around for an eternity. That's something I definitely don't like about F2P titles.Personally I prefer quality over quantity. Would rather have a short well-crafted concise experince over a padded-out game with filler
I hope the market gets over it's fascination of combining "X" with "Match-3" soon. I can't personally stand these games, no matter how they sugar coat it, it's still a damn match-3 game! I have Bejeweled, or Threes! for that already.
Originality is dead.

Threes is match-3? I thought it was some numbers game or something. Damn. I've been missing out.I hope the market gets over it's fascination of combining "X" with "Match-3" soon. I'm addicted to Sky Force, why I didn't try this out when it first came out beats me.

It's one of the best shmups on IOS as far as I'm concernedDownloaded this last night thanks to your post - pretty damn solid game, I think I'll enjoy this for a while.

I had started typing a reply right after this post, but then got caught up with things that took me away from my computer all day. Anyway, Super Glyph Quest is easy to recommend. If you've played the first one, it's very much the same (as many "super" games are) but with a ton more content. If you haven't played the first one, it's one of my favorite games this year... though, I guess it could be replaced by the new one.
The problem I have with SGQ is that it feels really grindy at the moment. Early on, before you get to the depth that makes the game shine, the story quests are unbalanced, and you'll die unfairly a lot. What makes it more frustrating is that the levels you can repeat to grind out exp give you only a little bit each round.
The developer has been active on the TA forums, and said they were looking into some rebalancing. I have a feeling that if getting to the real meat, where you are matching different elemental glyphs in the same turn, becomes a bit easier, it could be on my GotY list.
What surprises me the most is that Simogo put out both Year Walk and Device 6 in the same year. They do hire outside help, but they're really only two people at their core.
If anyone is worried about playing just one of them, or in which order, just know that you can finish either one in a few hours. I played through Year Walk three times the day it came out. With Device 6, I took a couple breaks throughout the game to think about the puzzles, but I think the total play time was quite short. I ended up playing through again right after I finished the first round.
I don't really get the TA hate here. I've always thought they put an honest effort into covering both games they are personally excited about, and games their readers want to know about. I mean, a lot of their coverage is driven by buzz on their forums.
A mix of my most hated gameplay mechanics, cards and match-3. I did try it once it finally came out in Europe, not for me.I personally like Puzzle and Dragons.

I love how the game notifies you when your highscore is beaten. I also don't mind the F2P mechanics, the upgrading bits makes the game a long term investment and makes me wanna come back to it repeatedly.Been playing since August. I'm a shooter fan, and this and Super Crossfire are the best shooters I've experienced on iOS.

I like that you can still play while the upgrade timers are counting down. Seriously, devs, that's all you need to do. Don't lock me out of your game.A mix of my most hated gameplay mechanics, cards and match-3. I did try it once it finally came out in Europe, not for me.

I see.Remember when all the Flappy Birds craze that happened a few months back which threatened serious iOS gaming? While other websites were doing articles like "Games similar to but better" and stuff like that, when we all were sick of that you know what TouchArcade did? A clone of a clone. They released a clone of Flappy Birds. And thats not the worst part, as they made it as freemium as they can get with a lame excuse that was a "meta-game" (their editor in chief is the lamest of them all, calling the grind "a fun meta-game"). I bet if AppSpy or other trustful websites did a game they would stay away from making a freemium clone. They didnt do much to try to stop it, they encouraged the Flappy Birds craze, their editor just wanted traffic to that site. People got angry about that and his reply was something like this: "Its increases traffic and traffic gives us money".That proved that there is no gaming heart there at all. Just fame, money and getting games early to play them early. So, yes, I dont like that website.
Have you played Mr Flap?Final Fantasy VII G-Bike is out in Japan.

I see.
I think Flappy Bird was a fine game, and a lot of websites/journalists rallied behind the developer when he ended up pulling the app. In certain ways, it was almost brilliant (almost because I don't think it was entirely intentional). If not for the original, we'd never have Street Flapper, Flapthulhu, Flappybalt, or probably Zombie Gunner Arcade. And then I'd have an empty folder of games on my phone, titled "flap." I don't see how anyone can see Hodappy Bird as a serious attempt to drive traffic or make money, especially since I'd doubt any money Madgarden took from the game covered a fraction of the development costs. I always took it as self deprecating and light hearted, and therefore couldn't get upset about it.

I ended picking up Year Walk. I saw it more of a game than Device 6. I never played Inkle earlier adventures like Sorcery so I saw too much text on Device 6 and freaked out xD. I am finding Year Walk a different experience than anything I ever played so far. Love the atmosphere. Seems like I am unfolding a giant puzzle.
Maverick Bird is awesome. I remember thinking it wouldn't work as well on iOS, but if it could, I'd definitely download it.Have you played Mr Flap?

Or Terry Cavanagh's Maverick Bird? (Flash game)

Maverick Bird is easily the best Flappy-inspired game IMO
That's what I was talking about. Of course the straight up clones were a disaster and made the AppStore a nightmare, but I don't think any respectable website was covering those. After the dev for Flappy Bird pulled his game, there were tons of threats against him over it, and some game sites were ragging on the game. That's when other developers did the Flappy Game Jam to show support for how well the original actually was made. The two linked above were products of that game jam, and I want to say Flapthulhu was as well.Fair enough, Flappybalt and the Terry Cavanagh game were excellent, they are the two exceptions made by geniuses... but I thought it was very distasteful to gamers and gaming in general, when things are turning the way it did with the swarm of clones and it was actually hurting real honest developers who worked their asses of, its not good to release a clone and even worse, joke about it, and even worse made a review of it, half joke half real. And I am sure they made it with the intention to make a profit. I only feel bad for Madgarden for having TWO Flappy Birds games on their back. To me it was a really disgusting thing to do. Not class or taste at all.

Don't forget to use the companion app to fully enjoy and complete the game.
And do not fear text in Device 6...text is the actual 'graphics' in the game;it's an awesome experience too.
...Lots of good points...
If you love that "giant puzzle feeling", you'll love Device 6
It's a text "adventure", in every sense of the word. The words twist and turn with the environment, so a long hallway means a long sentence stretching out of the screen as you hear your footsteps, or walking up steps has the words staggered up the screen. Turning a corner has you turning your device to follow the text. A radio signal grows louder as you approach a room and fades as you move away. It's a brilliant use of text unlike anything I've seen before
It's also the first game where I had to sit down with a pencil and paper to keep track of clues. You'll need a pencil and paper for Year Walk as well
I really like the feeling that everything make up for a giant puzzle, and I liked that bit you told there. Taking a third look at Device 6 now... seems to be similar to their new game coming next week, with text being graphics like Pitta says. Interesting concept. Diving further into Touchgameplay videos...
Do not expect Icewind Dale EE anytime soon.
The game will be out today everywhere BUT Apple Store...they resubmitted the build (rejected due to file size, LOL).
These guys do not have a great track record with App Store submissions... Needless to say I am excited for Icewind Dale!Do not expect Icewind Dale EE anytime soon.

TouchArcade is not a bad place if you know how to handle expectations. You' ve got three layers :
Shaun Musgrave
not Shaun Musgrave
not a game journalist
Once you adopt this reading grid the site becomes infinitely better

Shaun Musgrave and Chris Priestman/Harry Slater (Pocket Gamer) are the main reviewers I trust on IOS games.Exactly. I only read Shaun Musgrave's reviews.
That 2GB limit really needs to be history now that we have 128GB devices... how are we ever going to get console ports that are 30GBs+ on iOS with a 2GB limit!
