Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare launches tongiht and it feels like a stealth release

I'm quite interested in advanced warfare but I was also caught by surprise in noticing it was releasing tonight. So very strange.

That's crazy, OP, I had no idea. A combination of embargo, the new GAF OT rule, and the fact that I don't have TV must have contributed to this ignorance, because I can't remember the last time I wasn't aware that a AAA game was about to launch.

Holy shit, I need to buy it now and pre load on the X1. I swear it was coming out on the 11th. I guess the GAF OT rule is what got me not knowing what's going on, lol.

D/Ling fast, safe to assume its not selling well since PSN hasn't shat itself yet ;-)

Im not a huge CoD fan and have no ill and I love this "Day Zero" hype. I think it's hilarious, it just feels backwards and underwhelming. It feels weird to build towards a release date. Set it, and then split fans between fans and "ultra-fans." What do I know though?

I had no clue and even if I don't follow these CoD games I'd still be inundated with marketing about it as it released.

So, the game comes out before the review embargo? Wow. Someone has to explain why so many review embargoes recently have been weird like this.

Call of Duty's embargoes have always been on or soon after release, I think.

Can I get the day zero with all the DLC as well? Going to go on the X1 in a few so I want to know which is the correct version to buy.

You're right in that compared to previous years at least, this has been kept rather quiet. I guess people are just tired of the same old spiel, I mean how many times have they launched a new COD now?
We know what to expect really, nothing worth shouting about.

If you preorder the game you get a code for a Destiny shader that actually looks pretty cool. I've since kicked Destiny out of my house and changed my phone number so it can't contact me again though.

I just watched a stream for it on twitch... Definitely not picking this up. It's cool that people on the west coast get it at 9pm though. Like we always should.

Sales will be huge but probably lower than Ghosts (At least on launch, maybe good impressions will provide more legs)

Same engine, the one real change, frames, don't add enough variation to gameplay (was expecting alot more verticality), generally recycled content all around. I'll probably be using Share Play to play the campaign and that's it.

Here's some random dude playing it on twitch prior to embargo being lifted, will probably be banned soon.

i didn't realize either. there's a big ad on my way to work but it doesn't even say the release date, just tells you that you can pre-order the season pass. i skip the spacey 'what you're seeing is advanced warfare' one on youtube before i can get to the release date.

I haven't seen any commercials but then again I haven't watched a lot of TV the last few weeks either. I'm not using Twitch either. There have been a few ads on some websites, but Activision had a lot of those all year, so I kinda stopped looking at them as a sign of a near release.

Activision spending all that money on Destiny, they know that they don't need to advertise CoD anymore, it will still sell.

Until it doesn't and they will be busy beating a different horse by then anyway.

I've seen so many ads. Bus ads, billboard ads, tube ads, TV ads, cinema ads, it's been total market saturation.

I'm envious you're managed to avoid it all.

Honestly the rule was not very thought out, I mean it isn't stopping people making multiple topics to discuss an anticipated release,I prefered it when there was an all in one OT one week in advance.

Now we will be getting multiple threads and for some obscure games it will be getting none, I think one week was great for pre-hype and getting impressions from people with an early copy.

It's a dumb rule but I don't think it's the reason OP feels this way.

I can hardly visit any part of the internet without being bombarded by ads for AW. I don#t even watch TV and I am keenly aware of it's release.

I get most of my gaming news from GAF, and since we can't post OTs before release date, I have no idea what games are out half the time. I'm living in the dark!

I haven't been this hyped about a CoD game since MW2. Traded in Destiny and had some rewards credit so I got the Digital Pro edition for just $55 preloaded right now on my PS4. First game I've ever gotten the season pass for. This shit better be good....

Have yet to see an advert on any of my streaming options. I know that seems like no biggie, but I saw hella PS4 and Destiny ads on Hulu before they released. Odd. If not for this I would have thought it dropped Tuesday.

I personally agree, although I do see the reasoning, its better for people who want to get involved in the game on the day of release when alot of the discussion has been spent or lost in the OT-Pre Hype.

I am sure there is a solution to it if the MODs see that it fits their reasoning, perhaps a minor tweak to the system, One week PRE OT thread that gets locked on the day of release, new thread OT made on release day or discussion moves to the review thread. Not our call though :)

Yeah there has been a lot of ads about - even on radio which I've never heard before.

But Day Zero is a joke.

We're releasing on Tuesday, but yeah if you want you can go buy it Monday to feel special, even though there's no criteria to get it on Monday, but please feel special and like you're ahead of everyone else by doing it even though everyone else can do it too please, please, please!
