Ubisoft’s new games aren't available on Steam in several (all?) regions

I don't see the difference this makes considering you have to go through uplay for all ubi titles anyway?

Unless that's changed recently?

That wouldn't be as bad, it just opens and closes by itself just like a random window.

Although that doesn't always work great but at least the game is still part of your steam library so you don't have to worry about uplay and ubisoft bullshit. Community and stat integration, actually remembering you have the game since it's not part of your main, already established library. Helping uplay grow so they can charge ridiculous prices and take all the savings.

Also for people saying UPlay client is garbage i must disagree. I am using Steam, GOG, Origin, Battle.net and UPlay because i don't have issue using multiple client if i can get games cheaper.

Since 4.0 update UPlay Client is just fine. They are adding more and more features and trying to make Client less annoying for Steam users. Since ACIV their new games are using same update system as Steam/Origin so no more annoying updates, newest Client update is updating in background, You can always use offline saves and now Client will ask you which save you want to use is offline and online save doesn't match. Client supports Voice Chat now and capturing screenshots, new Uplay page and ubisoft web page now support Chat after login etc. They are not perfect but they are trying to improve their service.

Well, now that Ubisoft has confirmed the games won't be coming to Steam in the UK.
They have certainly lost all sale from me.

"for the time being". And that's been the official line trotted out every time Ubisoft has been questioned in the past. Plus no employee at Ubisoft is named so there's that to take away.

What's really funny is that both Unity and Far Cry 4 were available to purchase on Steam in the UK for about a day and a half before having the ability to purchase them removed. Same with The Crew as well.

That is fine until those services are taken down. UPlay would be well and truly at the top of that list, which is why I avoid it.

I wouldn't have minded not being able to buy a game on Steam, if Ubisofts alternative wasn't uPlay only. GOG.com, Origin, anything but uPlay.

If that happens games will be patched for sure.

Can you write why? What is your problem with UPlay? You have right to make your choices but i am curious why do you think UPlay is not for you?

I don`t get why Steam allows Uplay in the first place. Steam is DRM, so it`s unnecessary having to go trough Uplay as well. The only reason Uplay is important to Ubisoft is because they recently have started messing with games that should be pure single player experiences. In Black Flag you couldn`t access fleet without Uplay. Rouge will use it for microtransactions in a single player game. It`s getting out of control.

This must have been quite a recent thing because I swear I saw Far Cry 4 on the Steam homepage for pre-purchase in the UK.

It was as was Unity for about a day and a half. Then all of a sudden the UK price got removed from the Steam Sub and here we are again. It did show in the Steam DB for a while but it's been condensed in the history tab. It was £49.99 for standard and £64.99 for the Gold Edition with an -8% discount! The Crew was the same deal too.

I went to ubisoft forums yesterday to check if there was a way to get Steam keys for their new Nvidia promotion. (You can pick between The Crew/Ass Unity/Farcry 4 with a new card, but they're all fucking uplay keys which I don't want)

Every topic in their main forum are either people shitting over uplay, or people wanting steam only.

And in every topic, there is 1 mod saying the same bullshit over and over, something like:

I'm sorry to hear that, we're working very hard to make uplay even better, pls wait for that.

So frustrating, I bet they realize it's shit too but they can't do anything about it. And don't get me started on their bullshit ubi pricing on PC. I'm NOT gonna pay 60 euros + 30 euros season pass for 1 game, when they normally cost 50 max.

It's like ubi wants to be the new EA or something.

This happens every year iirc.

We've been in discussions with Valve about Assassin's Creed 3 and Far Cry 3, but for the time being the games are not available via Steam in the UK," said Ubisoft.
"In the meantime, UK customers wishing to purchase either of these games can do so by visiting the Uplay store, our retail partners or other digital distributors."
They went on to assure overseas gamers, "Assassin's Creed 3 and Far Cry 3 are available on Steam in other regions outside the UK."

“We’ve been in discussions with Valve about Assassin’s Creed Unity but for the time being the game is not available via Steam in the UK,” Ubisoft told PCGamesN.
Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. Publishers have complete control over what they can release on Steam. Who is Ubi trying to fool here?

Actually, I'm really quite impressed. That statement looks like it's accusing Steam, but if you study the two clauses individually, all it's saying is "We've spoken to Valve" and "It's not on Steam".

Excellent spin. State facts, phrase with care, and you'll get people thinking they've read the fiction without ever actually having lied. Sir Humphrey would be terribly impressed.

Unity is £18.35 at Indian Origin :)

This is on the Indian version of Origin store. What you need to do is;

1. Make sure a debit/credit card is saved to your origin account. This makes payment easier.
2. Install the Hola plugin for your browser and set it to India. Details can be found on the Hola site.
3. Go to the origin store and you'll know wether Hola has worked or not because all prices will be in Rupees. 1p is approximately 1 rupee.
4. Add AC Unity to your cart and click checkout.
5. Disable Hola now and make sure you're back on your UK ip. This will allow you to process your UK card. Proceed with the payment.

I didn't buy Watchdogs due to it's bull shit pricing (and I still haven't). I can do without AC and Far Cry for a long time.

I detest Ubisoft these days...

Well, no new Splinter Cell in sight, the new Assassins Creed and Far Cry 4 are not very interesting to me. I think can deal with that.

Sure. uPlay is only used for Ubisoft games which are not that many that I am bothering with anymore. uPlay is required even though the game I play is owned on Steam (example being Anno 2070) where uPlay has to start from Steam, so double clients. uPlay has the worst download rate for me on all platforms and also it hogs the entire network for itself. I live in a apartment with 2 others and if I download something on uPlay, it breaks the entire network. Origin, Steam, GOG, anything else works fine but uPlay bricks everything so that the only thing that access the internet is uPlay, nobody else can use it. I still haven't played Splinter Cell: Blacklist that I got from a colleague since I can't find a moment to download it when nobody else is around and using the net.

Steam is awesome, but I don't care, I 'm getting ACU and FC4 in the next few weeks for PC.

Next year I'll get ACR and The Division, not sure about R6 yet.

Can't be the pricing, it's still available in other EU countries for €59.99. Call of Duty has been priced like this for years, and this year many other publishers have been increasing their price to €59.99 as well.

Steam has been shitty ever since the 1$=1€ update on December 2008, retail has constantly been cheaper since then.

Or a UK retailer cut a deal to keep the games off Steam for a limited time (unlikely as very few retailers care about PC games, but it did happen in the past with THQ UK)

Bethesda games including Skyrim were also cock-blocked from sale on Steam but only in the UK by a mysterious entity that people speculate is Game.

Let's play cui bono!

- Ubisoft aren't doing an EA to get everyone buying from UPlay instead of Origin.
Why?
This is only in the UK. So its pressure from someone in the UK and only affecting the UK.

- Valve aren't blocking Ubisofts sale
Why?
Again, this is in the UK only. So the reasons above.

- A UK entity with power over publishers has compelled Ubisoft
Why?
This affects the UK only, so the above reasoning.
Who would have enough pressure to compel behaviour of a publisher, and is based only in the UK? A major game retailer.

- It was GAME.
Why?
a) "No smoke without fire" is a pretty shitty reason, but this has been an ongoing thing (WITH ONE IMPORTANT EXCEPTION) for years now, and Game keep having their name attached to the practice.
b) Game issued a PR about this once due to their being challenged if they had been involved in doing this in the past, and it was weasel worded with the whole "we are not currently ...." type wording.
c) That one important exception?
When Game were going bankrupt and unable to pay for their stock, this practice completely ceased.
Now Game are back as the number one gaming retailer in the UK?
Steam cock-blocking is back.

does it give you a steam key or uplay key or you just play it from origin?

Edit: Thanks for the answer :p

I don't think Steam dictates pricing. I imagine Ubisoft just doesn't want Steam taking a cut of their income. They think they can sell enough on uPlay to make up for whatever sales loss they get by not selling on Steam.

We'll see.
They may go the EA route makes sense you don't
split the money that way

Personally I never buy digital games priced the same as boxed retail versions, it's not right.

South Park had a ridiculous digital price on PSN and to a lesser degree, Steam for a long time, and I waited until a steam key was £15 on Amazon before I bought it, great game, but it's length isn't worth £45-50.

Game.co.uk often charges MORE for digital versions over boxed retail versions, it's very much incredibly ridiculous.

As for Ubisoft, it's insulting when a company tries to pull the wool over our eyes, why not just say it how it is "We don't feel Steam offers us the right value" or something, aka "we don't want Valve taking a cut of our games".

Doesn't bother me, if they are on Steam they'd still use the Uplay launcher just the same (at least my copy of FC3 BD does) - i wouldn't buy a new game on Steam just as much as I wouldn't buy a new game on Uplay. if i buy any of these games I'd buy them from a cheaper place (as i always do), and I would still have to use Uplay all the same.

Now if the Steam version didn't require Uplay 'd look at this differently, as Steam is way better than Uplay, but seeing as the Steam version still requires Uplay it just doesn't matter to me.

Wouldn't the game require UPlay even if you bought it from Steam? At least that's how AC2 worked

So not much loss, really?

I don't mind the look/functionality of the uPlay client. It's fine.

The difference is that when buying a game through uPlay (or buying a uPlay key) you have to use their client to download the game and updates; whereas with Steam you use theirs. I lost two whole evenings of playing Black Flag because game updates were coming down via uPlay at only kilobytes per second during server issues and I got corruption errors trying to cancel to go into offline mode. So using uPlay as the primary client/download manager hasn't been great for me.

Whereas if you've downloaded the game in Steam, you don't have to rely on the uPlay servers for anything other than the sync'ing of your profile information. It's much better.

Why would it only be the UK where they have that problem?

Ubisofts new PC games won't be bought by anyone in the UK.

Uplay is a seriously annoying laggy slow piece of shit, comparing it to steam or origin is just an insult to those two platforms.

I think it's quite funny that despite me and a few others in the Steam thread noticed that both Far Cry 4 and Unity had upped and done one of the UK Storefront 3 months ago that only just now are the press getting involved. In fact if PCGamesN hadn't published an article I very much doubt Eurogamer, CVG, RPS, Videogamer, MCV, Kotaku UK, VG24/7 or Digital Spy would had said anything about it. Yeah the games media are in perfect shape with the way they aggregate news from one another like some hideous media-human-centipede. They've had months to look into this but only when someone else does a bit of work do they all put something up.

It's been like this for a few months, why are people only just noticing now?

Talk of the devil

It stopped pissing me off as well, as the last couple of games (Watch Dogs and Black Flag) launch directly from Steam. When I start the games in Steam, the UPlay box pops up and I ignore it (I don't click on it), then 3-5 seconds later the game just starts up.

Quality of Life in UK unexpectedly rises.

I don't give a shit about these particular games but I've been stung by games I have wanted to buy and been unable to.

The most ridiculous example was Skyrim having exclusive TF2 items for preordering on Steam, but it being impossible to do so in the UK.

It's not that it's back, by the way. It never stopped. It's just THQ went under and it only happens with ubisoft stuff now which is a bit less noticeable.

Black Flag was also unavailable to pre-order until the day before or so.

The issue, I suspect, is pricing. Currently, a digital version of the PC version of Assassin’s Creed: Unity is available online for £49.99 from both Ubisoft’s own store uPlay, and other independent digital retailers including GreenManGaming and Gamersgate.

That's the price it was on Steam in the UK before they took it down like a day later to be fair, lol.

And they wonder why people buy from cheaper regions.... Not even EA have been pricing PC games at £50.

Edit: I stand corrected, EA games are £50 on Origin, lol. What a rip off.

It's very simple Ubisoft - I will not buy your games until they are at a reasonable price that I consider for the product and on services I find reliable and trust.

Customers that buy at retail and have to use Uplay will likely receive the usual Uplay instability and simply purchase less, on other platforms, or not at all. This happening consistently only in the UK is odd, as the issue is almost certainly not on Valve's end since pubs have full control. In any case, the game will pop up on Steam later, as per usual

No thanks Ubisoft, no thanks.

We'll see.

I have bought this from Uplay for £27 and I have no issue with that. Even WD on PC worked fine from Uplay, I think many over play How "Great" steam is and how "Bad" Ubisoft or even EA are.

I flick between all 3 and even import the start up through steam where needed, I paid less for AC:unity through Uplay key than I could find for a steam key on other games recently.
