- Nintendont - | Yes, you CAN play GameCube games on your Wii U!

Wow, and I can load them from my external hard drive I have attached already?

I have a lot of 'cube games sitting in a box in the closet I need to learn to rip!

Guys help me out, I got F-Zero GX running on Wii U, but I don't want to have to beat the game all over again. How do I transfer my save file from my Gamecube Memory card? I have the original Wii and I know their is a GC memory card manager but F-Zero GX has been the one game people have had problems copying.

Any luck there is a solution out there by now? I would love to keep my save file and play from the Wii U....

By using GCMM on a homebrew-enabled, Gamecube-compatible Wii, you can back up your Gamecube saves to SD card. F-Zero GX used to give people problems because its saves used some sort of protection, but the latest GCMM supposedly has the capability to rip them successfully.

After you back up your saves, you can put them into your Nintendont memory card file on a PC using the Dolphin emulator's memory card manager. I've done it myself, it worked with everything I've tried so far! Though I haven't tried F-Zero GX...

If you've tried and are having trouble, I could write up a more thorough explanation!

EDIT: Gbatemp's Nintendont compatibility page says that memory card emulation isn't working yet for F-Zero GX. Anyone tried? I don'y have the game so I can't test.

Use GCMM. I will find the link later, on phone atm.

You would need two separate drives; the Wii U deletes every partition when it formats it to use for Wii U games.

One drive for Wii U games and one for Wii homebrew. To avoid the "format hard drive?" message from coming up for the Wii hard drive, use a tool called UStealth. I'm at work so GBATemp is blocked, but just google it.

Does it not work with USB flash drives? Getting stuck on "Checking FS..." and the suggestions seem to say use the rear USB ports for your HDD ... except I'm just using a pen drive.

Can gamecube games be controlled with the Wii U gamepad? what happens with the pressure sensitive triggers in games like Mario Sunshine?

Personally, this lost me the moment I had to rip the games to ISO form. I'll just keep my Gamecube hooked up. It's not like anything else is competing on my TV for composite inputs anyhow. (It does make my TV stand look untidy though.)

You may be using the wrong port. Its the top one.

I heavily recommend using an SD card for gamecube though

Cheers, I was using one of the front ports so I'll try the top rear port later. More curious if it'll work and if so then I'll get a large SD card.

What Component to D-Terminal connection cable are you using for that output? For some reason, component looks like TOTAL shit on my Framemeister, and I think my d-terminal adapter is to blame somehow.

i got one of those adapters that are short and have female component inputs from Solaris (same place that sells Framemeister and other cables)

i have saves for JP and EU versions of GX in Nintendont and both work well. game saves fine and i beat a few cups and my saves never died.

i could also provide a set-up nintendont memory card file with my save since i have a 100% complete save for those that want to skip the hassle (only US version. i haven't beaten all of the JP or EU files yet)

Just tried Luigi's Mansion and I'm pretty impressed! Pro controller worked straight away, framerate was fine ... just great!

Can you have existing WiiWare/VC games on the same SD card as Homebrew or do you have to swap SD cards?

yep. no swapping needed, at all.

it's really as simple as it sounds. I would recommend just getting a 32gb SD card and shoving it all on there. Having a USB stick for gamecube/wii games/homebrew is fine too - but then you have the Wii U wanting to format it every time you boot up the console. No such issue with SD cards and gamecube games run fine from them.

I think I need help with this, I followed the the guide to the T but it's not workin on the Wii U.

I downloaded the CleanRip program and tried to make an ISO of my Wind waker game, it asked me about downloading some reprogram thing which I skipped and asking for a 32 GB SD card which I also skipped.

The thing completed and I ended up with files in my SD card labeled

GZ1E01.bca
GZLE01
and GZLE01 - dumpinfo

I got the program that turns ISOs into the DiskEX format and extracted it into a folder I made called GAMES.

In the folder theres another folder with the name of the Game (LOZ Wind Waker). Inside it is a SYS folder which contains apploader, bi2.bin and boot.bin, and a file named Game which is a Disc Image file.

After that I downloaded the Nintendont file in the OP and it gave me a thing called loader.dol which I changed into a boot.dol, where I placed it into a folder I created called Nintendont.

I placed everything correctly but it won't work, where'd I go wrong?

Right, hang on.

step 1:

i32OeGlKKfx93.png

saved to your SD card, you end up with this. pay attention to the folder structure:

It should work fine if that is how its done and laid out. Nintendont needs to be labeled as boot.dol and placed in:

SD:apps/nintendont/

you can then boot it with the homebrew channel and it will load up the gamecube game list from your SD.

right but my game file doesn't say games.iso just games, whats goin on there?

I tried this about half a year ago and nearly every game I tried crashed within 10 minutes or simply right at boot. I couldn't even get past the file select screen in Mario Sunshine.

Maybe there's been updates to it and it's improved a lot since then... but my experience with Nintendont was just awful. Wasn't worth the hassle to me.

Does this work with Wiiflow?

I'm already using Wiiflow and Devolution and I was wondering if Nintendont had any pros over Devolution in terms of interface and usability.

Please PM me the 100% save file just in case I can't get mine to work. Thanks so much by the way.

Yes, Nintendont works with Wiiflow and all other USB Loaders.

The biggest benefit to Nintendont is that it is open source, so it sees near daily updates. Devolution is closed source, so updates are extremely rare. Devolution also has an anti-piracy one time disc read check, which becomes a bit annoying on a Wii U, since the disc read has to be done on an original Wii, then you sync the same wiimote to the Wii U. Nintendont doesn't have any disc check.

why do people convert the iso files to other formats? they work fine as isos.

The benefit is that a 1.4gb ISO is shrunk down to what it actually is - a 200mb title in some cases, such as Luigi's Mansion. If you use ISOs, you use up 1.4gb for EVERY title. If you use DiscEX format, you get far more space than as a pure ISO as it cuts out all the null-data padding.

right but my game file doesn't say games.iso just games, whats goin on there?

hm. try it just as an ISO. I have no idea what you're doing wrong.

does the cleanrip need a bigger SD card better then 2 gb?

I would not recommend using shrunk ISOs. Their compatibility is lower than full 1:1 1.4 GB ISOs, which have almost perfect compatibility thus far.

For gamecube games, no. They are all 1.4gb max. but you're gonna have to move the ISO over to your PC after each rip.

I agree, but on the other hand I have had no compatibility issues whatsoever.

Only way is to use your TV remote and change it to 4:3, same as an actual GameCube.

Yep. Not an elegant solution, but it works absolutely fine.

Anyhow - I just updated the OP:

The 1:1 quick and easy option, or the "I have a mac" option:

When loaded directly Nintendont looks for games at:

sd:/games/<anything>/game.iso

shove your ripped isos there. one folder per game.

The compress my shit I want more space option:

You need GCIT, a windows app.

better?

Does this mean that I can't have my Wii U HDD plugged in when I boot from an SD card? I need to unplug it?

I haven't touched vWii since I started buying digital on my Wii U a couple months ago so I'm out of the loop.

No need to unplug anything

no reason to unplug anything if you are using SD. that's why I personally view it as the best option.

SD card for homebrew and gamecube games and the hard drive for Wii U games. there's no conflict between them at all.

Oh fuck, this is really tempting. On one hand I'm not sure if I want to void the warranty on a refurbished Wii U I'd be getting for Smash. On the other hand, I have 40+ GC games, about 30 of which I still need to and want to complete, and would love to have on a semi-portable.

I'm doing it because I'm getting stationed in Korea next month and I don't feel like taking both my Wii and Wii U when I can knock two systems out (Wii & GC) and only have to take one over.

If I want to put my Wii rips (wfbs) and Gamecube rips (GameEX) on the same external, do I need to set two partitions? I believe to transfer my Wii rips onto the external, it has to be formatted to WFBS while Gamecube rips need to be transferred to a FAT partition. Help?

Just incase anyone has one lying around, the Trio Linker Plus USB adapter works fully with Nintendont!

And I can confirm the analog triggers work perfectly too.

To keep Nintendont updated with the newest version and all the usb controller drivers, hit B to go onto the menu then X for updates. Or the wiimote equivalent if you are using that.

How is everyone getting their Wii U Pro Controller to work? Are you using a USB adapter or something else?

the latest Nintendont can detect Bluetooth signals from wireless controllers iirc.

Well fuck. I'm not playing anything stretched out. Any word on a fix or workaround?

you could use an older release from before they fixed that but it's very likely it'll lack some of the newer features.

the app has been updated and improved to the point that it is basically a new app from what it was just 6 months ago. the progress made is massive. give it a try again.

Mine is detected automatically and just about every game I've thrown at it works perfectly.

Even Sunshine, the L button combined with the ZR button allows you run while spraying water.
