Assassin's Creed Unity - Review Thread

Rockefellers. Skull and Bones. Microsoft. Al Qaeda. A Cabal of Bankers. The melting point of steel. What do these things have in common? Wake up sheeple, the landfill wasn't even REAL!
I hope metacritic is low the 60

Just ripe with technical issues.

I can't believe how much as changed for me since Black Flag. I was hopeful for the next AC and everything around the Unity reveal was very promising but somehow Ubi's PR has managed to make me hate everything about this game.

I'm looking forward to seeing some low scores so Ubisoft hopefully gets some sort of message. My prediction score is 70 which I'd imagine is well below their ridiculous expectations.

Hahahaha oh wow!

Ubisoft might change their stance about being all about bullshitting people and actually focus on optimizing their shit a bit more if the scores are low enough.

It's actually sad to see gamers want a game to be bad. I don't even know if I have the mental aptitude required to make the leap into this dark side of gaming.

Disappointed in many gamers here.

We don't want the game to be bad - that's why people are upset about this.

I was thinking of the One bundle on Black Friday and giving this a chance but this may sway me entirely from buying the bundle. If this is what we have to look forward too I'll stick with my Wii U and PS4Indie machine.

Seems like Ubisoft did a decent job with Black Flag (even if it's not a game I'm interested in).

So why does it seem like they rushed Unity out the door? Is their release cadence so toxic that they can't delay a game when it's obviously not done?

Bf, xmas $$$

that's really unpleasant coming from you Blimblim. I have a lot of respect for you and you're better than that. It has nothing to do with saying positive things about Ubisoft and everything to do with receiving a glitch filled game with horrendous pop in, 900p resolution and a framerate that is almost always sub-30. Unacceptable.

I played the game, 99% of the people gleefully shiting on it did not. Did I notice what you are mentioning? Of course I did. But I think considering how ambitious this title is, and how utterly amazing Paris look, I actually can forgive them for the most part (I can't forgive the loadings and the few game breaking bugs I encountered though).

So if you can get past the technical issues there's a good game here? I loved AC3 despite all the technical issues people had with it, so i'm sure i'll still enjoy unity.

Sounds like a great game that is marred by some technical issues. I am also glad to hear that the microtransactions are not needed, like Black Flag. Looking forward to playing later.

Is the low scores because of the technical issues because if so, I will buy it in a few months when these issues are patched.

Shame about the technical mess, it seems that there is no Day 1 patch and if there was it doesn't fix shit lol. I will be getting the game but later, currently have Lords of fallen, MCC collection and COD:AW on hold as i'm close to finishing Bayo 2.

´Lots of small visual bugs, a few more major one requiring mission restarts'

I'm sorry but thats the kinda stuff that should make a game not more then 6/10

They were right about one thing. Such an mediocre game would not have been possible on an amazing console as the Xbox 360. ;-)

Goddammit! The one time I preordered something from Ubisoft and this happens. Remind me not to preorder from Ubisoft ever again

So, all of these critics whining and making a fuss on twitter about embargoes, all for a bunch of 7's?

Goddamn Ubisoft for not allowing us to tell everyone that the new game is alright!!

No, there are only some chests that can only be opened with the companion app. They don't hinder game progress or achievements or trophies though. They'll just permanently show up on your map and you'll never be able to get the goodies inside.

Okay thanks. Still pretty damn annoying. I need to find out how to get apps to work on PC, I know there's a way.

God DAMN at HardcoreGamer review:

Sadly, any sense of immersion that Assassin’s Creed Unity could have created is destroyed by the unstoppable barrage of bugs, glitches, and overall lack of polish it features.

What’s the point of having thousands of character models on the screen at any given time if they pop-in out of nowhere every few seconds? Do incredibly gorgeous textures matter if your character constantly clips through them? Assassin’s Creed Unity features a collection of hundreds of bugs and glitches that, when added up, make the entire game feel like one big bug in it of itself. You might see French flags appear out of nowhere in those vaunted thousand-person crowds. The framerate seems to run sub-30 frames-per-second during panoramic synchronization animations. Framerate stutters and freezes are commonplace when the screen is loaded with assets. It’s not uncommon for Assassin’s Creed Unity to completely crash, leaving players staring at their home screens in utter confusion. There’s not a single cutscene where something isn’t randomly popping in in the background, and the character models themselves feature bizarre bugs (Arno and Elise have a strange case of the hair-vibrations). You’ll see non-player characters sink through the streets and get stuck inside wooden stands, and you’ll find yourself warping around walls while climbing. Oh, and let’s not forget the outrageous loading times that players see more often than not. Assassin’s Creed Unity feels like a game that should be released in three months rather than right now.

Two of the most memorable cutscenes are actually ruined by awkward bugs. At one point in the campaign, Arno and Elise proclaim their love for one another while looking down on Paris from above. What would be a beautiful exchange between lovers is sullied by half of Arno’s face clipping through his collar, creating some sort of bizarre shirt-goatee. What’s worse, he and Elise share a passionate kiss while clipping through the side of his shirt, turning a touching moment into a horror show. The final cutscene before the credits, which had the potential to be one of the most powerful endings in series history, is marred by Arno talking without making any sound. After a line or two is lost, he continues to move his mouth constantly until the credits roll. Needless to say, this takes the emotional peak of the story and transforms it into utter nonsense.

"Gamers want a game to be bad"? The fuck are you talking about? Some gamers want bad games to receive appropriately bad scores, that's what it is. And that's a good thing.

IGN trying desperately to give this game a higher score with that 78...probably cause there's a ton of AC Unity ads on their site.

Wow. And here I had decent expectations due to the Gaffers who had early copies and seemed to enjoy it. Don't know what to do about my preorder.

7/10 is difficult for me, because it's not clearly terrible, but it's also not clearly worth a lot of money.

I might wait until a sale and picked up Inquisition in the short term instead.

Videogamer.com - 8/10
These issues are hard to ignore, and put a dampener on the suggestion that next-gen begins with Unity, which was always going to raise skeptical eyebrows. However, they don't ruin the experience by any means – in fact, dare I say it, this is the best entry since Brotherhood. For the most part, Ubisoft have really pulled it out of the bag. Unity confidently rolls the series back to its core concepts, and fulfils much of the promise that was evident, but rarely lived up to, back when we were living through the crusades as Altair.

It's a good time to be an Assassin's Creed fan. I just wish my console could run it properly.

Worth bearing in mind that the reviewer is Jim Trinca and he is a self-confessed huge fan of the Ubisoft Open World format. I can't find a link right now, but he's said so much in their podcasts and videos on YouTube.
