It's evolving, it has to. To expect them to push out Halo 2 again is not logical.

The ADS they've added is a nice balance for both new and old players. Shields not recharging while sprinting is a nice trade off. The kill times are still Halo, so even though they're pushing in a new direction, they're still not just copying other games out right.

It could all suck ass, but 5 looks better than 4 at least. I'm gonna give it a fair chance and go from there. And like I said, MCC is always there if it turns out not to my liking.

I'll give it a fair chance too ram, but I'm going to disagree. It's not about putting Halo 2 out again. What's wrong with H2A, honestly? Everyone who has played it, likes it. It's what Halo 4 should have been. Why does Halo need ADS, Sprint, to evolve? Evolve to what? What even makes the game Halo anymore? Because they are called Spartans in the game and because there is a Halo title on the cover?

Mix, do we want to have like a "Dedicated Customs" game night during the week at all?

I'm really jealous about you getting to play that because that gametype sounds RIGHT up my alley (not an oblique Turf reference I swear, lol). I'd love to experiment with some derpy games if people can tolerate some trial and error.

Absolutely! I'm thinking that Wednesday night around 8pm CST (9 EST, 6 PST) would be a good time and night for it. If not, we can play with times, dates, etc. Thinking about getting it on a scheduled weekly night.

We should do this

I'm really liking the idea of it being Wednesday night, I know it's a week night, but this way people who are interested can plan around it/ This way it doesn't interfere with weekend tournaments that people like CliQ plan.

Yep and with that said I think giving everyone all the same abilities vs. the pick/choose of Reach/4 opens up a chance for a new skillgap.

This is something which I think is really good about 5's new abilities. The skillgap in traditional Halo is actually quite small. You've got shooting to master, you need to learn the maps, and you need to be good at communicating. there's not a whole lot left to get good at beyond that. There's trick jumps however that's really incorporated into learning the maps because they really aren't that hard to pull off when you know how to do them.

The new abilities like thrusters really have the opportunity to massively increase the skill gap. Mastering their use, coming up with new and interesting ways to use them. It adds a whole new layer to the dynamic. I was watching a H0lmb0m video where he was describing how he was dodging enemies by jumping off the edge of the map then thrusting back and grabbing the ledge to survive.

It's certainly not traditional, however it sounds new and exciting to me.

Could it be on a tuesday... and maybe a couple of hours earlier...?

Notice how quick the weapon switch is between the AR and the pistol in the halo 5 vid? Tis nice

Sprint is probably my biggest issue with the game but I know it's the feature that absolutely has the least chance of being removed so won't waste keystrokes on it.

Everyone listen to old man ram, he's been around Halogaf since Halo 2. Kappa

But a lot of you are super delusional to what you want a halo sequel to be. And really delusional to what the masses want.

The masses don't really exist in the same way they did 7-10 years ago. Video games have changed, you're not really going to see the level of widespread, informed enthusiasm over a single game release again like you did with the earlier Halo games. The major responses now are drawn more from marketing hype than dedication of a fanbase, and it'll hit when Halo 5 launches on a somewhat smaller scale due to the smaller install base of the xbone.

This. Fucking this.

If this was a new IP and it sported these features, I'd probably be very excited about it. But these aren't things I want in Halo.

I don't understand why this keeps getting swept under the rug. If CoD got rid of ADS and sprint and whatnot, I'd be upset. It wouldn't be CoD anymore. If you wanna try something new, be brave and make a new IP, rather than piss off an existing fanbase by bastardizing one of your popular current IPs.

Imagine if Nintendo had copied Sonic's spin-move in Mario? Stop trying to copy each other and stay true to what makes your game unique.

"We want to maintain that core foundation that Halo 2 had, but add some of our new mechanics in with that"

Hype get.

Terminal in H5 pls

Replace 2 with CE and I'd buy twenty. CE mechanics with no sprint or Smart Scope, Stabilizers, Clamber and Thrust along with all the flavour audio cues from steitzer would keep me occupied for years.

In reality, if valve pulled ads on counterstrike, the cs community would go i to insta ragemode and valve would literally never hear the end of it. With Halo tho, 343 just gets a pass. Tho Halo 4 I think taught them a leason and Halo 5 will have to be the absolute best Halo experience otherwise it will fail hard.

To me, once MCC is fixed, whats really the point of playing Halo 5?

I don't think the gaming world would've cried much if Reach was the last Halo game. The MC finished the fight and went to sleep, and we got a prequel and spinoff. It was Microsoft's choice to continue Halo as an investment in its continued financial success. As long as they're making money, whoever put down the big dollaz to put 343 together is winning.

Maybe Halo 4 and later could've been a sub-series like Bad Company, which completely redefined Battlefield but was still widely successful on its own merits as a separate concept.

I'm just being real, not lying to myself anymore. The quicker you accept that, the easier it is to just go with the flow, or play MCC.

I'd be game for this. Haven't been playing much, but I'd be down for tooling around with wacky settings.

What I can't figure out is, considering the direction 5 is going, why would they make H2A mp in the first place, and then go to all the trouble to support it competitively? Please don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that competitive Halo is back, that tourneys are happening, all the interesting team drama, etc. But the decision to throw the full might of the hype machine behind this version of Halo only to one year later release what appears to be the series' largest departure from it? Halo 5 looks like a completely different IP than H2A. I mean I feel like we're being set up for the biggest tease ever- revive the franchise's competitive element by bringing back what made it so interesting in the first place, and then fundamentally transform it immediately after. I'm just scratching my head at this. H5 may well turn out to be a resounding success, but it certainly won't be because it plays anything like H2A, because it clearly doesn't.

So CE with nothing new? Play MCC.

You act as if CoD is the only ADS game, even Bungie uses ADS now, it's just where the industry is right now.

I see you arguing against all of this, but you consider BRs on Warlock shit. That opinion is shit to me, so surely you must see how hard their job is to please every single person.

I think ADS is more for console games. Look at Counter Strike. It's the most competitive game out there. No ADS at all.

Your average console player is SO different from someone playing CS though. If you brought DotA/LoL to console, I don't think the interest would be feverish either, even if they had good controls. Just two completely different audiences for the most part.

The game has two rifles with ADS and nobody uses them. You can't ADS with pistols at all, nice google image search though.

Somewhere in a desolate, insular corner of an internet gaming forum, a Counter-Strike community thread is justifying the removal of the Plasma Launcher and Grenade Launcher.

Okay so I want to know what the point of achievements like the Pacifist achievement on Silent Cartographer are for in CEA? They're virtually impossible to do solo. Is it only to encourage coop play? I'm just trying to knock out some random CEA cheeves for fun, but some of them are obnoxious. And what's the point of trying to do it legit solo if someone else just uses two profiles or a friend to carry their main account for the achievement? Just seems dumb. Or are there glitches and tricks that can actually allow you to complete it solo?

Edit: Never mind. I'll wait till beta and then game launch, but I'm pretty adamant this is going to be an even more polarizing game than Reach and halo 4 to halo fans new and old.

It's difficult and people like myself find campaign achievements like that fun.

It's not impossible on solo.

Definetly not impossible. In fact I did that achievement (Pacifist) on my first try.

I got ridiculously lucky though. The Sword Elite at the end was following me and just when I thought I was dead, the shots from the Hunters at the entrance killed it. LOL. That was tense.

I usually just try to block him with the Warthog, but sometimes he follows, yeah.

I actually made it even harder because I decided to do the "Don't jump" achievement at the same time. I got really lucky.

I tried going for both Library achievements at once - sub-30 mins on Heroic and not dying on Legendary. Solo.

It was smooth sailing until I ate shit on the final door / encounter. Never tried since.
