I (and a lot of PS fans) want the Crash IP in Sony's hands.
He is a PS mascot of the original PS1.
We're talking about a fanservice here, for the longlife/hardcore PS fans.
A new Crash game isn't even the topic here.

are you reading this @XboxP3?

So it's so important to you who the publisher is that you prefer to go after the slim chance of Sony buying the franchise from Activision instead of the way more realistic goal of Activision publishing a new game made by the same developer you'd envision to make a potential Sony-published Crash?
All you guys and your logic! We just want Crash back home, this guy is MIA. I would love to play a new crash with my kid. We already play mario from Nes all the way to wiiu. Crash would be so much fun.
And you can't play a new Crash if it is published by Activision instead of Sony? Crash has been multiplatform for more games than he has been Sony-exclusive by the way.

To me, this seems as if Banjo fans like me would start discussing if Nintendo could buy the franchise from Microsoft instead of just rooting for the obtainable goal of getting a new Banjo game by the current rights owner...

If you want Sanzaru or Sumo Digital to develop a new Crash, why not just ask Activision for that, they could have it developed by Sanzaru or Sumo Digital, too. Of course, it would then be a multiplatform game, but considering the Wii U versions of Lego games and Skylanders are outperforming the PS4 versions, this could just lead to the game being more successful. Activision wouldn't need to invest into buying some franchise before, they already own Crash, so it would be way easier to convince them of doing a new Crash than Sony to buy the license and make a new Crash? I could understand this if it being developed by Naughty Dog was an option, but anyone who is asking for a Sanzaru- or Sumo-developed Crash, I have to ask: What do you need Sony for then? That being said: If a proper new Crash Bandicoot was developed for PS4, I'd buy a PS4 (provided it was not also coming for PSV, considering I already have a PSV).

Because Activision would probably rush the shit out of it and thus the quality of the game would suffer.

See: Any outsourced Activision game.

I can't help but think you're bundy op

I don't have any outstanding evidence to prove it, but it's very... familiar to read your posts

anyway I miss the orange guy, I don't think Activision would ever sell it back anyway

Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure was outsourced, too, but, although I don't like it, I have to say, it does not seem rushed.

The Crash IP in Sony's pocket, yes!
I would say the same if a mascot like Donkey Kong, Mario, Yoshi, etc. would be in EA's pocket. Horrible!
Crash should be a SCE IP. Fans want it, I want it.
Like I've said, seeing Naughy Dogs Artbook, PSASBR without Crash, etc. .... man!
Just sad.

Wow. Amazing. If this was announced it would easily be my most anticipated game.

But do you have any reason to think Activision is willing to sell or Sony is willing to pay for Crash? I can't help but think you're misguiding your energy here and it would be much more worthwhile to ask for another Crash game handled with care by a good developer. As long as Naughty Dog thinks realistic is all that counts Crash is not in better hands at Sony than it is at Activision. As a huge platformer fan I'd of course be happy about a new Crash either way, but this does not really seem productive to me.

EDIT: By the way, you say he is a PS2 mascot, but he was multiplatform the whole PS2 era...

Everyone wants this to happen but don't put much effort and forget it in few days. Someone should think about this and make something strange to get the attention of Sony.

EDIT: We should tweet this to Sony and the number should be big with increasing every week until they answer us. We have a great even in few days so its better to start this until the event starts.

Haha, if only it were this easy. I'm sure buying back Crash is a multi-million dollar investment, and one without much promise of a return. It's a shame they didn't lock down the rights in PS1 days.

But here's hoping. If Sony does buy back Crash, and mentions inspiration from NeoGaf, I'll Paypal you 10 bucks op. :p

People are already tweeting @jpkoller @LuckyLongworth (SCEA). Telling them to show Layden this thread.
What are the hash tags for tweet?
Hashtags? Hmmm don't know. Saw #FreeCrash a few times.

I really can't believe people are making that big of a deal with Crash, when Sony has so much better dead platformers.

Just make a new Ape Escape ffs. Or if you really have to bring something back, let it be Spyro and give it to Insomniac

Rockefellers. Skull and Bones. Microsoft. Al Qaeda. A Cabal of Bankers. The melting point of steel. What do these things have in common? Wake up sheeple, the landfill wasn't even REAL!
I think Sony should definitely push Activision, especially while they're not doing anything with the IP.

I think they need to move soon though, while the character is still partially relevent. I think Spyro is a lost cause due to Skylanders, but Crash is definitely usable and Activision seem happy to let the IP sit stagnant. Why not make some money of it?

I think they should at least approach Activision, maybe even a bunderuuuu of the Crash IP and marketing rights and exclusive content for, I dunno, Destiny 2.

What? Crash is the first Playstation mascot and Naughty dog IP. If this game comes back then its a big one compared to other IPs which are just subjective to fans.

Even if Sony did somehow get Crash back Naughty Dog sure as hell isn't going to make a new Crash game.

I don't know. It may be a good way to get the studio making two games again. One team working on the headline IP (Uncharted, Last of Us, etc) and a smaller, younger team cutting their teeth on Crash, with support from other developers in the studio.

No chance. I'd love to see it, but I really doubt the odds, unfortunately. Sony owns several great platforming IPs (Ape Escape, Jumping Flash), and we can't even get sequels or HD remakes for those. To spend hundreds of millions just to acquire a property, let alone do anything with it...

For the Crash IP? Naaah!
It could be possible. We need some Layden magic ;P

Couldn't agree more. That's exactly the reason why the PS fans want to see the IP in Sony's hands. It's "the iconic PS mascot".

Never said I wouldn't buy it, regardless of what may come of it. However, if it came to Sony I would feel more right at home. Also, I feel that Sony would give it more TLC than what has happened so far...

i have a feeling with all the crash stuff that happened (and disspearing from activisions website for little while) i think there was talks between sony and activision but i think they fell flat due to money.

So Shawn Layden is reading several gaming boards?
That's damn good! The Vib-Ribbon story is amazing and yes, he is listening.
Now let's talk about the big elephant in the room (again):

Crash Bandicoot

For the love of god.... BRING THE LOST SON BACK HOME!
Don't tell me Activision doesn't want to sell the IP.
They aren't doing anything with it.
SCEA wasted tens of millions of $$$ with Santa Monica's canceled IP.
Sh#t happens! But use some money, talk with Activision and make a deal.

PlayStation fans love Crash. And to know that Activision owns the rights/IP is sickening and annoys the hell outta them and me.
He is a PlayStation mascot, for gods sake!
Seeing "The Art of Naughty Dog Limited Edition" without Crash was heartbreaking and made PlayStation fans furious.
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale without Crash? Rage!!
Crash belongs to PlayStation!

So yes, again, DO SOMETHING!

Take a look at this and you know what you have to do, Shawn:

Listen Shawn Layden, don't listen to the op.

Sorry, not happening.

In many ways it seems a shame because Crash was one of the biggest icons of PlayStation and they lost him, yet Bungie left Microsoft and HALO was unaffected. Nintendo have always retained good control over their properties and Mario is highly unlikely to go anywhere.

This gets brought up in every single Crash/Sony thread but I don't think they ever owned Crash at any point.

Universal had a multi game publishing deal with Sony that ended with...Crash Bash I think?

There's more non exclusive games than there are exclusives. Also Spyro has basically proven that selling this franchise would be exceedingly dumb

The amount of money Activision would want for it probably isnt worth it for Sony to buy it back.

Activision does not seem like a company that will let go of a IP easily. Any similar old / loved IP in Sonys vault they could trade for it? Maybe Bobby K is a big G Police guy.

Was Spyro really all that crucial to Skylanders? Sure, he was there, but it seems like the franchise was successful in spite of him being there, as opposed to it being about him. The new games don't even make him look like a star anymore.

Same goes for Crash. If he were to follow the same example as Spyro, I doubt it would be because Activision really cares about Crash, Dr Cortex, Uka-Uka etc, but only because he happens to be tied to a franchise that sells based on toys.

Replace Crash with some other mascot and Kotick would still be wiping his ass with hundred dollar bills.

Spyro sure helped the game to gain attention and attention can lead to success. We don't know if the game would also have been successful without Spyro, but the game would probably not have existed without him anyway, because it was the result of a reboot of Spyro.
