Don't really see how you could slap a score on this game without seeing the online.

I guess it was a backlash against MCC since critics were giving the SP a score and not MP.
I am ok with it I guess. I would mostly not put a score at the end and rate the SP experience.

With pretty good reason? Brawl had pretty bad netcode, and the 3DS version is iffy.

Such a dumb decision on Nintendo's part IMO, unless the online is awful, which I am starting to fear it is.

Japan would already have access to it before the NA embargo was up, right? Servers were probably on for that already, here they arent because NA is the first region to release on.

Online should be up at launch. I know our rough plan at Nintendo World Report is to see how the online is over the weekend and likely put a final score on the game early next week.

I haven't faced it too much running a Nintendo site, but I assume we will see this more and more often from now on. We did a similar thing for Mario Golf: World Tour (online wasn't up until close to launch, I believe) and I was super disappointed a ton of other outlets just didn't even mention the online.

GameZone Review - 9/10

At the end of the day, it's Smash Bros. any way you look at it. It's not longer the floaty fighter that Brawl was and instead now sits at a comfortable mid-ground between Brawl and Melee. The roster is huge and diverse, with very few clone characters this time around. It's still one of Nintendo's most innovative and extremely fun party games to date, and anyone with a Wii U has surely been looking forward to its release. It's not perfect, but it certainly comes close.

Well that settles it: Worst Smash ever.

That excerpt does make me think that the other 30 seconds of a newcomers Mega Man 2 masterpiece experience will be simply running forward avoiding birds until they hit the wall they need to use Item 1 or 3 to get over with likely no knowledge of them or their usage.
This may be the masterpiece to beat for humorously poor game representation, guess Sakurai just really wanted to show that Wily Castle visual the smash stage is based upon.

Well, we're getting the game first than anybody else so waiting till servers go live until tomorrow is understandable. With the 3DS embargo was different because at that time the game was already out in Japan and servers online so I'm not worried about the netcode or a total disaster with online MP on Smash U. There's no way it could be worse than Brawl or the 3DS version. Other than that, most of the reviews seem VERY positive wich is awesome #HYPEEEEEEEEE

I can't believe they only gave it a 9/10. This is such an insult to Sakurai-san, Namcot & most of all Nintendo. If I wanted opinions I wouldn't be reading objective game reviews!

Are you saying he should have put it higher or lower? The stages are my biggest complaint too. Are stages being worse than past games objectively not worth taking a full point off? Or should it get at least two points off objectively? What are you trying to say lol. Is this about ethics?
