Your Favourite Credits Music?

No objection from me! :D

Although the credits music on GBA is also great.

If you haven't played the first one but still recognise the tune, they actually rearranged it for the DS one as alternate Game Select music.
I actually did play Tengoku, but I had to try a little hard to remember the credits theme :lol.

While we're on the subject DS is a bit strange in that it has two ending themes, the actual staff roll (That's Paradise) and the character roll (Menu 1 remix). I can't pick between the two. Fever does have two, as well, but the character roll is really weak compared to Dreams of Our Generations.

Pretty much anything Nintendo these days. They seem to understand the importance of strong credits music. It will, after all, be the final thing you hear from the game assuming you never play it again. It's surprisingly and disappointingly rare for me to hear actually good credits music.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was particularly excellent in this regard. The game may not have been as good as I had hoped, but after an intense final boss fight I was waiting for the credits... and some intense and beautiful music starts playing. It make me think back on the journey I had made, remembering the good times and go "Hey, this was pretty cool after all". I still get shivers when I listen to it. It's a great example of credits music done right.

Here are some recent favorites:

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Super Mario 3D World

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

My personal favorite will most likely forever remain Reset in Okami, however. It exemplifies everything a credits roll should have - including music, visuals, atmosphere, contextual significance and anything. After a long journey full of hardships and emotions it had finally come to an end with a fantastic vocal musical piece.

Such a shame the credits roll were cut from the Wii version and, while still included in the Western HD release, had new music. It's insane. Reset encompasses everything that is Okami. Reset is Okami. Okami is Reset. It is the best credits ever made no matter the medium.

Edit. I should mention 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors too. It's a great reward after such a harrowing experience.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials & Tribulations

When I first heard this song play after Phoenix's famous "Objection!" line, I felt shivers go down my spine. T&T's final case was a ride from beginning to end and the credits music really made you feel the fact that you just finished the last case in a fantastic trilogy.

A lawyer never cries until it's all over.

The more I listen to the Tropical Freeze credits them the more I think that despite the Stickerbush Sax being one hell of a tribute to the series and a fan pleaser it's the jazzed out Wing Ding mix kicking things off that really represents Tropical Freeze itself, a more upbeat swinging tune flowing with energy, together it's a potent combo of past and present. Usually I find DK credit themes to lack a bit (usually too short to stretch out over the loooong enemy parade and credits) so Tropical Freeze was actually a surprise in that respect, in this case the credits genuinely weren't long enough!

Oh yeah my favourites, well

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Staff Credits
It's SMG2 basically doing what SMG1 did, layer the grandiosity on the games main theme (basically both Sky Station tracks lumped together) and then steer it into the realm of Gusty Garden because everyone loves that theme and its arrival is like an explosion of joy in ones heart.

Kirby Superstar: Milky Way Wishes Staff Roll
Manages to simultaneously catch that ending vibe while retaining the ever jubilant and peppy stylings of Kirby music, the backing is infectious, the transition into Green Greens at the end is just great and in a game with multiple little endings each with their own theme you hear this one and know that now it really is the end.

Mother 3: 16 Melodies
I didn't know the GBA was capable of something like this, while I'm sure that the first half would be a nostalgia blast had I played Earthbound first (PAL region problems) it still manages to evoke such a sensation. But really I'm here because I'm a sucker for Mother 3's Love theme which reaches its peak during this staff roll.

No wind waker yet?. I'm dissapointed Gaf.
The title theme for Wind Waker was always begging for a greater mix, it took until the credits but we got it and then some, I love how it mixes up the looping of the track in various ways weaving in the Great Sea, Zelda's Lullaby and Aryll's theme while still retaining the Wind Waker theme throughout.

Bastion's has got to be the best in recent memory.
Speaking of tracks being weaved together the fact this takes two lyrical tracks and successfully combines them with the result sounding great was quite a feat. Something about the increased instrumentation compared to the intentionally minimalist style of the standard two themes also hits that ending note, it's almost like hearing it complete as a whole.

Mario Galaxy and Wind Waker are great, but where's the Epic Yarn love, yo?

The whole entire soundtrack is just full of gems.

Edit: Had to add Twilight Princess to this.

Going to have to replay this now.

Just getting round to playing that for the first time, I have only completed Wind Waker HD of the 3D Zeldas, so going through the rest now. I bet people are jealous I get to experience the games for the first time, eh? :)

FFX and Nier also knock it out of the fucking park when it comes to credits music making the player reflect on the story and game.

FFX - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bv1oNp_wJw

Nier - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxgJ_8AgQbo

Nier is specially good since it has 4 versions of the ending theme according to which ending you got, there are versions in English, French, Japanese and IIRC on the made-up language of that game.

Anyways since most of the usual suspects have been posted, I´ll contribute some more.

No More Heroes - NO MORE NO MORE HEROES.

Espgaluda II - Ascend.

Phantasy Star Online - Can Still See the Light.

Perfect Dark - Credits.
Shadow of the Colossus - Epilogue Those Who Remain.

MGS3's credits music is pretty depressing. MGS1 ends on a somber and upbeat note. MGS2 ends on a bizarre but upbeat note. MGS3 ends with a man being driven by a passion that seals his fate for decades.

Excellent credits music can be the cherry on top of an awesome cake of a game. And honestly, throughout my gaming years it has been Nintendo that have left me with the best feeling after completing a game. Watching their credits roll by is usually hugely enjoyable.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Super Mario 64

Mario Kart 64

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

But the numero uno for me will forerver be Super Mario Bros. 3. No matter how many times I listen to it it hits me like a massive wave of nostalgia.

It's a simple melody but it just gives me a incredible sense of longing for a simpler time, a time without responsibilities and without a care in the world, as cheesy as it sounds. This official arranged version is just masterful.

Honestly, the only other games that compare to Nintendo's in terms of credits themes for me are is Kojima's. The Metal Gear Solid games have truly beautiful musical choices for their credits. Kojima really spares no detail for presenting their games, from top to bottom, credits music included:

The Best is Yet to Come
Can't say Good-Bye to Yesterday
Way to Fall

It's quite sad most developers lately don't care about credits sequences, the absolute last final lasting impression a game leaves on you. The credits in the The Last of Us is the only that left one in last several years.
