People bought the CONSOLE to be able to play Halo MP. I agree, it's sad.

I've not tried it since the week after release, is it any better yet?

I've been finding Matchmade matches with more consistency than the first week or two. But it's really a crapshoot trying to play in the BTB playlist and with any "sizeable" party (me and a buddy were finding H2A matches fairly consistently, but I can't say for more than that).

That said, be prepared to still deal with uneven teams and parties not sticking together if the leader backs out. To me, these two issues should be the PRIMARY patch goals for the dev team. They're perhaps the most frustrating aspect of MCC matchmaking right now.

After a weekend of getting matches more consistently I have to say matchmaking is still too slow and still buggy as fuck. Still can't find Big Team matches but other playlists seem to be somewhat functional.

Lots of crashes, how the uneven teams is still an issue confuses the shit out of me. I mean most of the time it will have an even match, then search and add one more person, search even longer for another person but fail, then match uneven teams.

Also is it just me of are the playlists total shit? I'd say 90% of my games are Slayer BR.I love Gungoose CTF but could see why someone would quit out. I mean I love Lockout and Zanzibar but fuck, so many variations of those maps that they just come up too often.

I feel like there are so many problems and issues to fix with this game that it won't ever get where it needs to be because the focus will shift to Halo 5 once they've milked this release for all cash they can sucker people into giving them.

I get the feeling priority for 343 is now the Halo 5 beta. They can't afford to have anything else but a flawless launch on that one. Just extend the beta and use that extra time to fix MCC.

Why are people voting for Warlord with BR starts? Oh its against Stonetown with SMG starts? WARLOR.... dammit. Stonetown with SMG starts.... for the 12th time in a row.....

At least I get games.

All but dead, currently has 555 viewers. That's about the best I have seen it for a few days now. It's shit to watch because you are mostly watching matchmaking fail repeatedly.

Thats sad. :(

I remember Ogre 2 was coming back, but there seems to be very little interest in competitive Halo.

I know what you mean about Lockout. Whether its classic or anniversary, that same map comes up at almost every turn. And of course that's all people will vote for to play. I love the map, but I don't wanna play 5 times in a row, and would like to actually play some of the 100 others I have'nt yet. Also why is every game Slayer based?

Why can't we have a dedicated objective playlist??

Thanks.

Uneven teams is what angers me the most. I would rather wait 10 minutes to find a game and have even teams than wait 3 minutes and be 3 v 5, it just makes the whole game pointless.

Eh. You overestimate the damage. Many of the "casuals" are just now getting the game on Black Friday and Christmas.the hardcore are the ones who picked it up day one.

I would say he is underestimating the damage done to the hardcore community. I'm a Halo "mega fan", I've played over 10,000 MP games since H2, read many of the extended fiction and own limited print artwork going back to the H2 prints. I've got my close Halo friends that have played Halo as much as me and we are already past the point of playing TMCC like we've played every Halo release in the past. We now have so many other options to be playing that function as intended, so the longer Halo takes to get up to snuff the less likely we are to get into Halo like we planned since June. I am the only one of use that even boots the game up anymore, the rest of my friends refuse to try to play it because of how broken it is. We can get into games solo, which is okay, but we don't play Halo to play alone (let alone the broken uneven team situation). I'm hoping that the game is functional soon and that the H5 beta brings people back into the fold. If the beta is a broken mess or if TMCC isn't fixed by the time the beta is over, I would say the game is a loss and has little hope to pick up a fraction of its initial potential.

So at this point I paid $70 for the Halo 5 beta, which i was looking forward to more before the MCC than I am now

If you really only bought the game for the beta then why are you upset?

Thanks.

Rumble Pit. Seriously the only thing worth playing right now if you want a "fair" match.

People have the mindset that BR starts are inherently better for everything.

Warlord is one of the rare moments where it's not, and actually hurts the game.

Somehow the connections in Halo 2 classic are even worse than they were on peer-hosted games ten years ago. Excluding when I've been host, I don't think I've played a single game where my BR has been at all effective outside of short-mid range.

Welp here's my experience with this turd fest of a game yesterday.

Start out trying to play H2A ranked playlist. Stuck waiting 10 mins searching and getting no where. Reboot. Search again, go on GAF on laptop. I look up a few mins later and it's loading on Lockout. Sweet, a match!...wait why is this FFA? The game put me in someone's custom lobby...from matchmaking! Try again, quick matchup...oh 5v3, how lovely. Quit out. Get another match like 20 mins later, game crashes on loading screen...

So I decide to continue my CE LASO playthrough. Start out on Halo, finish it without much trouble. T&R is hell on earth, after an hour an a half I make it up the gravity lift. Game crashes trying to load the fuck you room in the ship. Reboot, game loses save progress. Restart level, finally finish it 2 hours later. Blast through SC and AOTCR in an hour an a half for the pair. Save and quit out on 343 GS to go to bed...the playlist didn't give me credit for completing AOTCR. Can't replay levels in the playlists, don't want to go on since I'm pretty sure the achievement is fucked now. I'm forced to restart the entire LASO playlist now.

Went to bed at 2AM utterly disgusted. What the FUCK happened to this game? How do you screw up such simple things? I'm a patient guy, I don't ask for a dev's head based on minor glitches or day one server issues, but we're going into week 4 of this game's release and really simple shit still doesn't work. I'm so fucking steamed with this game it's beyond comprehension.

The incompetent buffoons at this studio are not equipped to take over this series. Fuck your Halo 5, I'm not giving you clowns another dime.

Can't believe I bought the console for this game. I almost wish it never came out. I was happy with my PS4, but as a huge Halo fan that stopped giving a shit with bad Halos years ago I couldn't not get this game. Now I have my dream game, but it's broken and constantly pisses me off, yet I stick with it like a battered house wife.

If this game isn't functioning properly by Christmas the entire studio needs to be canned. What a joke.

I've been having this issue too. Long range BR feels useless to me and the sniper rifle is a joke right now if you're off host in H2C.

At least the H2A sniper is godlike

I'd really like to play a match on H2A Coagulation that isn't gungoose CTF.

Gungoose CTF needs to go away and be saved for an Action Sack playlist or something. It's fun but it pops up way too much in BTB.

As someone who's actually gotten to play multi flag/bomb on Bloodline I can safely say that Bloodline is the best Blood Gulch variant yet.

Bought since launch day, still haven't managed to get into a single MP match.

Game just gets my hopes up by showing me PLAYERS FOUND when it's clearly not true. :(

I'm at the point now, that when it takes a long time to find a match, I wonder if it's because the game is broken or if it's because of low population numbers. Sad.

Heads should roll at 343. Microsoft should put Joe Staten in charge of 343, to help instill some confidence in the community. I'm sick of all the negativity. I want Halo to be fun again. New leadership is needed.

I'm not one to push for someone losing their job, but in this case I kind of think its warranted. Someone from 343, or someone from Microsoft's side who said this was good enough to release, needs to be held accountable for this.

I noticed this too. With the vast amounts of crap I've had wade through to play this game online I just shrugged it off as "another hiccup" and time will tell if it's part of the bigger problem, but I'm not so sure anymore. Every game of Halo 2 Classic I've had since the 11th has been riddled with shots not connecting, especially on that damn sniper rifle. I can put two or three rounds in a moving enemy players skull and they just absorb the shot. Right now I'm having better games in HALO 3! And we all know how fun the netcode is in that game.

I really don't recall having that kind of an issue 10 years ago. Has this got something to do with the fact it's Halo 2 Vista?

I wonder if Joe even entertained the thought. I mean, he went back to MS but not to Halo? Surely they asked him if he wanted to work at 343. I don't think he wants full-time involvement.

That's my guess. Which would mean it's something that will probably never get patched. I hope I'm wrong, since Halo 2 classic is the reason I bought this mess and the reason I bought an Xbone which I didn't want otherwise.

If they arent patching out button combos I don't have much faith in them going back to fix other aspects of H2C

Last night I was able to play 5 games on even teams in a row playing Halo 2 Anniversary, no lag at all, it was great! Still cant get into a BTB game for the life of me though.

Its better at finding matches no doubt. You can even find games with friends in your party. It is still too slow (but better) and there are still bugs in the roster system so bad that people in your group may have to quit the game and restart just to join a party with friends.

One thing I hadn't noticed BTW is that in everything but BTB you cannot have five players in a party search for a game even if the playlist is for 5v5. You can only search with 4 in the party. I was very frustrated about this yesterday.

Yep. The Halo hardcore will stick around or come back. The casuals are gone for good. I doubt the H5 beta will make many people come back for regular Halo.

343 really screwed the pooch with this one.

How many hardcore though? I been at halo's side since the original but now i've given up, not just because of the MCC issues but not exactly liking what I see from the halo 5 beta footage, it's becoming something I do not want day one at full price.

I feel like this happened more like a car wreck you can't stop rather than someone saying "no this is good to release"

If Capn Phil called Bonnie Ross and was like "hey are we bug free and good to go?" and they said TOTALLY then yeah....yeahhhhhh thats bad.

At this point I would be very happy to see a big shake up over there. Halo has the potential to be so good but they are just squandering it.

Releasing MCC the way they did was the equivalent of taking a massive dump on their fan base. The fact that they are still feigning ignorance about the state of the game is even more insulting. I really hope that they defy expectations and come clean about the whole thing at some point.

I'm not really feeling Rumble. 10 player FFA on Warlord is a bit too chaotic for my taste.

I will fully admit that 10 player FFA on Warlord and Lockout can be awful.

It's easier to get into matches now, I suppose.

But the current experience reminds me of when I picked up Alien Vs. Predator a year or two after it launched and tried to play the multiplayer.
It would take a while to get into a match, but it would work. Once in the match, it was always a mix of laggy gameplay and completely unbalanced teams.

The MCC online right now basically feels like one of those B-tier online FPS games with really, really bad netcode and online infrastructure.

I was curious if any other publications had changed their review scores since launched and went to Metacritic, which made me even more surprised to look back at how these reviews were written. Choice quotes:

There's more love and care lavished on The Master Chief Collection than you see in countless other big-money, brand new blockbuster releases. The fact that the games themselves are fantastic fun online and off is the cherry on the icing.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a love letter to the fans, and it delivers four great games in one brilliant package. The games are not only more beautiful than ever, but also far more accessible to play in whichever way you want.
Halo the Master Chief Collection is the definitive version of this amazing series that plays and looks amazingly on the XBox One.
In terms of pure content, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is simply massive. In terms of the content itself, this package is astounding. Four of the best shooter campaigns ever made, in one box, all running at 1080p at 60fps, Halo has never looked so good. Throw in over 100 multiplayer maps and a bevy of Halo themed extras and you have a recipe for a true system seller.
Sets a bar that other remasters and collections will have difficulty reaching, much less topping. For players new to Halo, who have missed any of the included games, it is a stunning introduction to one of the most beloved series in video games. For Halo fans, it's a package that shows almost as much respect and affection for the Master Chief as they do.

How?

How did these people play through the games and not notice the neverending issues, even before any of the 3 patches so far?

I'd really like to play a match on H2A Coagulation that isn't gungoose CTF.
I've played some Team Slayer on it a few times, but folks start dropping out early into the matches, which turns it into a long-term slaughter until the timer runs out, or everybody quits.

Maybe if it was 8v8 instead of 5v5, and/or the score was up to 75 instead of 100... Anyways, it's fun while it lasts. I like the changes they made to Coagulation.

I've been getting even teams consistently on the Team Slayer playlist. There are some hiccups but generally the matchmaking has been fast for me (around 2 minutes). I don't really try BTB because of the Matchmaking issues. It's a shame too because that's my favorite game type. I'm hoping that it will be fixed enough for me to play during the Christmas break.

Some friends and I finally got some games fairly consistently last night. We had a blast but this game is still frustrating. People make fun of MS and xbox for all sorts of stupid things but the release of this game in my mind is the worst blunder Xbox has had by far. People bought this game literally to be able to play multiplayer silky smooth and this has been a buggy mess. Its sad for me more than anything.

My group of 4 still had issues with MM but worse is we all had issues with network lag at some point. It was a combination of all of us, some of us, one of us or none of us, even within the same match. Issue was there in MM games or customs. You see any of that?

I contemplated buying an X1 just for the MCC but I held off to see reviews and such. In retrospect I'm very glad I did. If they ever get it fixed up I may still buy one, although the urge to buy my first console since the Gamecube has kinda waned from the MCC fiasco.

I've run into this numerous times. Not sure if it is people getting pissed off they're down within seconds of starting or what. In one of my first few matches (like under 10) I was in a group of 5v5 and within a minute it was 1v5, me being the only one. Went 0-35. Felt great.

I think you may be forgetting the fiasco of Halo 2..... or the fact that he worked on Destiny up until nearly going gold...... or the fact that he's a writer, not a studio manager.

I mentioned it earlier in the thread, but I don't understand how you can be so quick to just drop out after waiting that long for the match to even get started.

And here's my favorite:

This game pack is awesome. It not only breathes quality, it really shows the love that 343 Industries has for the Halo series. Both single-player and multiplayer within this game are solid, smooth and complete.

...I don't even.

Quitting has always been a problem in Halo MM and it's probably exacerbated with the state of matchmaking, uneven teams etc. I'm sure a portion of it is also people just having network issues and being dropping from the game. I've had more than a few games start and 2 minutes in I get black screen and everyone is dead and I'm the only one in the game. I assume this is just me lagging out and the game is actually still continuing.

Where the hell is that from?

It looks like I put as much effort into sourcing the quotes as the reviewers did into their write-ups :p

That particular one is from InsideGamer.nl; All others are just the summary blurbs from Metacritic for different publications, looking at the top reviews.

Well, I havent had any problems with SP since launch, there is that, as to MP, I guess they didnt had to go online to matchmake, and they just had a lobby prepared for local MM.

All the more reason to not make claims about the multiplayer, then. And not having issues with the single player doesn't make it "solid, smooth and complete", especially when you account for the multiplayer campaign, which in my opinion is one of Halo's major contributions to the genre.
