Thoughts on PS Experience Keynote?

Skel1ingt0n

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
Uncharted 4 - 2 points
Bloodborne - 1 point
Indies (quantity) - 2 points
Vita talk - 1 point
SFV - 1 point
New IPs - 1 point
Yakuza - 1 point

Poor presentation skills - minus 1 point
No classic IP revival - minus 1 point
No Metal Gear - minus 1 point
Squeenix Shannanigans - minus 1 point

No last Guardian - wash
No Crash - wash

Total = 5/10

Cons:
-Vita only got ports
-Another shitty The Order gameplay footage
-Suikoden 1-2 only for NA Fuck you Sony and Konami, EU exist too
-Fucking SE doing stupid shit
-SFV would be great if it hadn't leaked even though I don't personnaly care about it
-Fucking Destiny again
-No Man Sky again
-Persona 5 name drop but nothing shown
-WWS MIA except for the expected MLB and Killstrain but no footage and F2P so nope

Pros:
-EA free stuff even though I already own Mirror's Edge and NFS
-Yakuza 5 was cool I guess
-Uncharted 4 was the best thing from this show
Bloodborn was cool too
-Until Dawn still looking good
-A lot of games I can't remember anything about
4/10

I won't ever stay up or being hyped for a conference ever again, I've got burned too many times now.

I thought nearly all of it was amazing. It was the most consistently entertaining conference/show of the year by a mile. End was pretty weak, though, and that SE troll... XD

I thought it was excellent until square-enix showed up, after that it went downhill very fast and left a bad taste in the mouth.

It was ok.

Yakuza 5, Suikoden 1 and 2 , Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle were cool.

Uncharted 4 was a bit disappointing aside from the gorgeous foliage. The Order looks like crap.... and Jaffe´s new game too (aside from the neat art direction).

So yeah, it was ok.

Didn't show that much which was new and exciting. That was sort of the point of the whole event, right? How far can SFV, Yakuza, and an Uncharted gameplay video carry Sony?

If i had just tuned out after the UC4 footage, i really wouldn't have missed anything at all. SFV already leaked and apparently that was their big megaton announcement, along with the announcement of the 100th port of USF4

That FF7 announcement was a master troll and a huge punch in the gut for everyone.

And it's really annoying how Sony keeps making a big deal out of all of these ports. Ported to ps4, yay. Ported to vita, yay. Does it really need to be announced on the big stage at these big press conferences? It doesn't help that i will or have already played these games on my gaming PC.

No Crash, No Syphon Filter, PaRappa, Ape Escape, Legend Of Dragoon, Arc the Lad, nothing. Where are the classic franchises? What was the point of feeding into our nostalgia then? Not even a mention of The Last Guardian? Guerilla Games new IP? A bunch of downloadable games from SSM?

and you close out with a pretty space simulator and...Drawn to Death?

The whole thing wasn't terrible, but it just seemed unnecessary and ultimately disappointing. Same thing with "The Game Awards"

Extremely disappointing. This is supposed to be a celebration of 20 years of Playstation and the very first Playstation Experience. They needed big guns and to play up nostalgia. Instead they wasted like 40 minutes on games that have already been talked about 100 times (The Order 1886, No Man's Sky, Destiny, Arkham Knight etc.) they show an interesting yet too lengthy demo of Uncharted 4 that would have been better saved for E3, and then downright INSULT us with that Peter Moore segment and FF7 segments.

The ONLY decent things/nice surprises in that entire 2 hour conference were: Ono with SF IV/V, The 3rd party relations guy (the one wearing the fedora thing) segment specifically the part with Tim Schaffer, and the last segment with Jaffe.

Everything else was corporate garbage, lame jokes, and indie games that could have easily been shown in a cool 2 minute montage instead of being stretched out.

Agree 20000000%. Fucking disappointment.

Very happy with the conference overall, especially if you consider the fact that it's December and this isn't E3 or Gamescom. My only major complaint is that Sony should've cut the FF7 troll announcement. It has no benefit whatsoever and only leaves a bad taste in people's mouths.

Highs:
Uncharted 4 gameplay
SFV
Until Dawn
Giant Sparrow's new game
No Man's Sky
Day of the Tentacle Remaster
Grim Fandango release date
Free games from EA

Lows:
FF7 troll
No TLG
No Guerilla, SSM, or Bend game announcement
No Persona 5 gameplay or trailer

Loads of stuff I liked and I have been hugely disappointed with my PS4 up until now. Given some real excitement for next year. The FFVII thing was bizarre though

Awful. As a fan of JRPGs, I got burned twice. They started off with Uncharted which was incredible, but it was all downhill from there.

It was a great show. Game after game after game after game was shown. But the ending really made people mad *cough* Square *cough*. Also, Uncharted should have been the finale if they didn't have any "Megatons" the insiders were hyping.

The death of insiders continues.

I had zero expectations and got to see some good shit. Don't overhype or believe weird insiders. You're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Uncharted 4 gameplay is all I wanted and Sony delivered, so 10/10 for me.
The rest was just bonus, it was obvious that Sony will save the big guns for E3, at least for me lol.

Worthy already apologized to me personally and it's all fine. Remember it's first and foremost just entertainment guys. Disappointing yeah, majorly but whatever.

The good things

- Uncharted 4 looking like my dream execution of Uncharted 1.
- Bloodborne actually interesting me with that dungeon and multiplayer.
- Fat Princess being back in Adventure. Didn't get to play it much on PS3.
- Street Fighter V being cross-platform play online.
- Until Dawn seems fun with a bunch of friends but not the game I expected.
- Free PS4 copy of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare.
- Yakuza 4 and 5 being localized.
- Tearaway Unfolded looking all kinds of awesome.
- Wattam and that hilarious potential.
- Drawn to Death. I were always drawn to MadWorld but this seems interesting.
- No Man's Sky.

- What Remains of Edith Finch, Grim Fandango Remastered, Gang Beast and Super Time Force Ultra with Shu Yoshida caught my attention.

The letdowns
- All the insiders talking about Crash Bandicoot, Horizon and The Last Guardian.
- Square Enix's major trolling. They're really clueless.
- They didn't play much on nostalgia. No revival.

Yakuza 4 was localized years ago. No excuses. Go play it.

I really liked it, got patchy towards the end though, saved only by NMS. Lots of announcements and little time wasting.

Combined with the TGA stuff yesterday which MS didn't bother with, Sony have come out rather well this weekend.

Went in expecting very little, came out thinking that was an awesome show. The Yakuza 5 and Suikoden announcements alone got my HYPED!

I give it an A. Bit of a downer ending (I like Jaffe and think his game looks interesting but it's not a show ender, Uncharted 4 should've taken that spot and Bloodborne should've opened) but up until that point it was a pretty great ride.

They showed good stuff I can't deny it. A lot of those games I'll probably get. There are some that I'm super excited for (Bloodborne and Persona 5) but this keynote and yesterday's TGA didn't announce anything new to get me excited for. I wanted something new announced that will get me hyped again or footage of a game that is in my top wanted list that i haven't seen before.

Basically if I wanted to be satisfied one of these options should of been announced:
- Crash game
- The Last Guardian
- FFXV footage
- KH3 footage
- New Grand JRPG
- Fallout 4
- Persona 5 footage

Some of those I weren't expecting to be there. But having at least one would of satisfied me.

The stuff that I liked that they showed:

- UC4 footage
- Bloodborne footage
- No Many Sky still looks sort of cool
- The Forest
- Grim Fandago comes out pretty soon which is cool
- Until Dawn looks fun.

This is me personally.

Edit: Where there actually insiders talking about Crash, TLG? How were they allowed to spread false info?

Overly long and filled with games I have little to no interest in. UC4 was the only game on my radar and even that looked fairly average. I just can't get excited about PlayStation these days :(

lots of announcements but no real big one. and why sony let square get on stage and play with emotions like that i dont know but i will have to deduct points for it. also disappointing ending, should have at least announced new god of war, guerilla new ip or tlg.

6/10

Pros:
Uncharted 4 looks like GOTY
Bloodborne looks like GOTY
Arkham Knight looks like GOTY
No Man's Sky looks like GOTY
Suidoken II
Vita love
Drawn to Death hits all the right notes for me
Until Dawn looks like a blast to play with friends
Lots of interesting indies

Cons:
Overhyped *cough* 3 megatons and a gigaton *cough*
SFV got leaked early, would have been a megaton announcement
That Square Enix trolljob

Overall pretty good. Better than their E3 and TGS shows, not as good as Gamescom. Would have been better without a certain insider hyping it to death with endless teasing.

I seriously can't fathom being disappointed by this conference. It was a E3 level show for me personally. Shit it was better than their E3 show this year.

Mixed bag for me:

+Uncharted 4
+Suikoden II
+Shovel Knight
+All the indies

-No Persona 5
I didn't expect it, but still
-Final Fantasy VII "Remake"
Fuck you Squeenix
-Drawn to Death
That art style. Please no.

Just emerged from the hype train that crashed and burned, but I have to say that overall I thought this was a great keynote.

- DotT coming to PS4
- Grim Fandango release (and it's next month)
- Gang Beasts.
- The Forest on its way to PS4
- Yakuza 5 localization
- Shu as a playable character in Super Time Force Ultra
- More Bloodborne
- A seriously great UC4 gameplay demo
- More No Man's Sky
- Jaffe's Sketchbook Overdrive
- SFV console exclusivity and PC cross-platform play
- Shovel Knight

I personally think that allowing SE to troll people with the FF7 PC port at such a high profile event was a terrible idea and will come back to bite them in the ass.

I was very surprised that Yoshida didn't make an appearance during the Keynote but whatever.

Edit: The EA freebies were nice too. I'll finally be checking out Garden Warfare.

It was a two hour presentation showing a bunch of games that I have no interest in playing. The indy thing might be great for some people but I don't really want anything to do with it.

Maybe they'll be something at E3. :/

Kandrick

GAF's Ed McMahon
This was so overhyped. Glad i didn't buy into it because this was pretty underwhelming.

Honestly, the best news of the show for me were Yakuza 5 coming over and EA giving out games.

I really liked Uncharted 4, but that was always going to be the game I buy a PS4 for. Looking forward to Persona 5 and starting to feel Bloodborne more. Still very sceptical about The Order. Most of the smaller and indy stuff was nice, but not really a big deal if you own a PC (same goes for most 3rd party stuff). Overall, I really wish they would have ended it with something bigger.

Man I thought that was amazing. Games after games. Def renewed my interest in purchasing a ps4. Shocked at the vita acknowledgement . I think some of y'all set your expectations so high that whatever they showed wasn't going to satisfy you.

"Indie games don't interest me." I will never understand this terrible attitude. You don't like video games?

I don't mind games by small studios, I mind that every "indie" game has that same look and feel of some super hipster shit. "this is SNES era graphics inspired because SNES was the best right guys~" or this is a game where we try to show how deep an thoughtful we are while I insert my high school poetry in the background of a game with only 3 colors! see how quirky I am. I our games were movies, they would have Michal Sera and Zoey Danshanel in them! See how indie we are! Our favorite bands only play shows with an audience of 4 people, because 4 is an even number and thats our philosophy on the universe, see how freaking INDIE WE ARE.

Granted most games are not like that... and I do enjoy a lot of smaller games...but so many have that damn stink on them visually and gameplay wise it really does nothing for some of us. At the same time I don't like those big budget AAA games either like Uncharted and Dragon Age so maybe I'm just weird. Some of us just think this way.

I was not expecting FFVII but that was a major troll that really was not cool.

I was expecting TLG and the continual silence on this game is unacceptable.

I don't understand the logic in announcing SF5 the day before their conference though, that is a major announcement that would have been a gigaton announced at the conference. Still is I guess

Sony has a real problem with constantly showing the same products over and over again. How many conferences in a row have we seen a major presence for Destiny, Batman, NMS, Order etc

They're not real games, right?

They are real games.

I personally don't care to play them, and I fed up that 95% of the time Sony are shoving them into my throat in these conferences and PS+.

Even Uncharted 4 didn't wow like the Uncharted 2 E3 Demo... and no sign of God of war, TLG, Sly, Ratchet or any good SP AAA first party experience.

I'm only interested in games that have a $50+ million budget.

It was actually pretty great. As I've said plenty, the Keita Takahashi game surprised me. Uncharted 4 looked gorgeous, and so did Bloodborne. It was great to see Tearaway again, as well, and I am now interested in No Man's Sky. My livestream conked out during Santa Monica's third game (the one that seemed like a murder mystery with the bird?), but based on what I saw, it also peaked my interest.

The disappointing thing was Rime's no show, and Square being Square again and killing all momentum. This was so much better than E3, but Gamescom still has this beat.

I do think there were great surprises, but I hated how insiders were hyping them up to make it seem like they were megatons. Yakuza 5 is a BIG deal, but, admittedly, not to me, and not to a lot of people who'd rather see something new on the PS4. People just have to realize that the insiders may be legitimately surprised about something and starts teasing it, but it is by no means a "megaton" by itself.

Yakuza 4 was already localized and came out 3 years ago.
