So MS squeaked out a victory on the shoulders of a massive price drop, crazy bundling, gift cards and greenberg buying 2 free games for 1 person. Congrats but that is not sustainable unless they just want to take an absolute bath on this thing going forward. Retailers sure aren't going to be throwing gift cards at them either. I figured the numbers were so close when nobody released a gloat PR after black friday.

My sister was +2 for Xbox in this NPD. She bought one for my brother in law and his reaction was that he wanted a PS4 lol. She saw the $100 difference here in Canada and it was an easy choice for her. I almost bought it off her to complete the set but I think ill wait a bit longer.

AC Unity and the MCC issues really didn't help, either. A few of our stores were ou\tright accepting *returns* of MCC because of the faulty launches. Normally, we don't accept any opened software returns except as an exchange for the same game. We were giving store credit in most cases, but, yeah. Some seriously upset Halo fans were seen. Bundling the PS4 with 2 games that received near universal acclaim and especially GTA V continuing to sell gangbusters...

Anyway, that's why I couldn't make a clear call for either system last month. Clear differences in the mindset approaching how to sell this month... If MS hadn't basically eviscerated their own bottom line, there wouldn't have been any contest.

Interesting. It just came down to a case of adding value vs. adding value.

Zelda appeals to the exact same fanbase that picks up every other nintendo first party title. There is literally no one sitting on the sidelines passing up mario kart, smash brothers, mario 3D land, donkey kong, etc and waiting for zelda. Those fans have already bought in.

Zelda will move absolutely no additional consoles over what the wiiU is selling now anyway.

I agree mostly. I'm just saying it's not helping right now. If Wii U already had a Zelda the console would be more appealing. It's a big hole. It's the longest in my memory that any Nintendo device has gone without a new Zelda title so it's worth noting.

Basically I expect similar number for Wii U in holiday 2015 riding on the back of Zelda.

Something weird about that 1.2 million number...GamesBeat said that hardware sales (actual money gained) declined over last year. Unless that is due to the price cut of give or take $150 per Xbox One console, that doesn't feel like a US number.
