Zombie 'Bob' in-game

Keep in mind, when we said 4-6 weeks long ago. The game had 0 of these things in it. Try to imagine playing that game.
This is why as a team we came together and agreed that in order to bring a great experience to the players and not a extremely early busted game, we need to get at least these into the game.

Flora work coming along nicely

Still very much work-in-progress, but the new Trailer Park point of interest is starting to come together(All trailers accessible).

Alternate Servers- An Explanation
When we announced Early Access being on January 15th yesterday we didn't go into much detail about Event servers.
When we launch January 15th we will have many different servers with different rulesets. Some examples.
No Zombies
Zombie headshot only (only kill zombies with a headshot).
PVE

and just about anything we can think of to put behind a ruleset. Everyone, regardless of which sku they buy will get access to all these different servers. How many of each server type is still unknown and closer to launch we'll nail that down.
These alternate rulesets are different than what we call the Event Servers. These servers allow us to do things along the lines of Battle Royale and to have more limited access to those servers. Our goal here is to make it so you can earn tickets to the event servers and play there completely free just by playing the game. We'll also offer tickets for sale (we're talking $.99 here) and we'll offer a bunch of these tickets as part of the more expensive of our skus ($39.99) but if you just want to play the game you can do it for $19.99 and you can expect to get free tickets as you play the game.
We'll be figuring out other Event Server types down the line and offer prizing, etc for people who participate. Very similar to what Hearthstone does with The Arena.
hope this helps explain a bit more.

Since they're not incorporating limb damage, the only place you'll see me is the zombie headshot set of servers.

I really hope there's PvE servers that you don't have to pay extra for or get tickets for.
You won't. Those are standard servers and free. Only servers that costs tickets are event servers like ctf or hunger games etc.
Since they're not incorporating limb damage, the only place you'll see me is the zombie headshot set of servers.

They have specific servers where only a headshot kills? Awesome...

They spoke about it. They say they will have a system in place for pretty much any kind of server people want to be made if it has enough interest.

Guys, should we make a GAF group, so we can take care of each other in this zombie-infested world?

Or are we using the GAF community page on Steam?

New Dev Blog/Video
H1Z1 Dev Spotlight - Jeff Jonas

SEEING THE WORLD FROM THE THIRD DIMENSION
Hey! I’m Jeff Jonas, Senior Artist on H1Z1. My job is to make stuff for the world in 3D. These things are called props, and they include static items, vehicles, and occasionally a structure. We use a number of tools to do this, but mostly I work in Maya for 3D work. I use Photoshop, nDo, and dDo for my textures. The process is usually similar from object to object. Some things are simple; some are complex. Agility is the key. You don’t always know what will come along next, or what ominous thing lurks around the corner.
381.jpg

-First things first. The place gets a name and then a sign. They tell you to STOP at the crossroads! But, no, are you crazy? Don’t stop!!! There are more, there will be many more, more signs…they will keep coming at you like zombies in the night.
382.jpg

383.jpg

-Of course they will need a road; it will be straight at first, next all the sections and curves, and finally an intersection. At first the road leads nowhere, then as assets arrive, the world takes on a sense of place, a foreboding deserted desolate place.
401.jpg

-The places need stuff inside. Furniture and lamps, light switches and vents, all the little things that make a room a cozy place to lie down and curl up into the fetal position and hide behind.
402.jpg

404.jpg

405.jpg

-Then they need a car to get to these places of refuge. So we build a car and I mess it up to look like it has been sitting around in the mud for a while.
406.jpg

407.jpg

-Something bad happened inside this OffRoader. Best not to know the details, as long as it still drives.
409.jpg

-The Police Car can be used for nefarious or righteous work. But it’s always best to lie in wait. We took a high-res model and reduced it for the game. It is still one of our more expensive models in terms of poly count. But when you turn on the sirens, the zombies will come …
421.jpg

-Then we need other places to drive to. The big box store Supermarket was a challenge because I rarely make structures. But it was relatively straightforward. The main issue involved a store load of props that flesh out such a building. A seemingly never-ending variety of shelves and signs and scales and meat cutters fill out the interior. However, I am amused that they accepted my name suggestion for the store. The store itself is a kind of fortress refuge from the storm, if you can clear out the zombies or bears.

Every day I need to be prepared for the next thing hiding in the back warehouse… agility and planning ahead for the next encounter with some object or vehicle.
425.jpg

424.jpg

-Making the electric guitar for John Roy was a meaningful task. John is somebody I have worked with for over 20 years. When John suddenly passed away, we decided to put in something that would honor him. He was a gifted musician so I decided to make a guitar for him. We turned it into a tribute object in the Roy-O-Line gas station that John initially created in our initial energetic development frenzy. I hope it is a worthy tribute, and I hope that H1Z1 is hugely popular and that guitar that gently weeps will linger a long time.
426.jpg

441.jpg

-So that’s what I do… I jump from thing to thing, like a fireman in some sort of way. When we need something added I run toward that fire and attempt to put it out. As I said, agility - I need to stay on my toes. I don’t know where the next fire will break out, or what the next piece of candy in the box will be. But what I do know is that if it is a box of candy in H1Z1 and its sitting on a counter top… it’s probably a trap.

-Jeff Jonas

Looking good. Joyriding in a cop car while zombie mobs are in pursuit sounds like fun.

Do we know if multiple people can enter the same car?

Yeah they can. How many depends on the car but in planetside you can have like 8 in one of those transport vehicles so it shouldn't be an issue.

Do we have PC requirements yet?

They want to hit Planetside 2 requirements which are below.

Minimum System Requirements
OS - Windows 7 or later
CPU - Core i5-760 or better / AMD Phenom II X4 or better [Quad-core CPU]
Memory - 4 GB RAM (32-bit) / 6 GB RAM (64-bit
Hard Drive - 20 GB free
Video Memory - 512 MB RAM
Video Card - nVidia GeForce GTX 260 or better / Radeon HD 4850 or better

Recommended System
OS - Windows 7
Processor - Intel i5 processor or higher / AMD Phenom II X6 or higher
Memory - 8 GB RAM
Hard Drive - 15 GB free
Video Memory - 1,024 MB RAM
Video Card - nVidia GeForce GTX 560 series or higher / AMD HD 6870 or higher
Sound Card - DirectX compatible

Not better than DayZ on day one? That must be a pretty bad state.

Hopefully it'll get into a playable state before 2016.

Surely the engine is better than with DayZ.
Thats Smedley being nice and not wanting to shit on DayZ team as he enjoys the game. I seen him stream it a few times and Lulz were had!

Ok i'll see how Planetside 2 runs on my PC first and see if I can play it

So does the $20 SKU come with any additional stuff, like items that'll be available for purchase later on or whatever? Or would I simply be paying just to play an early version of a F2P game? If it's the latter, I'm not sure I can justify that to myself.

EDIT: Just checked the subreddit and someone had the same question. Looks like it's just the EA version of the game alone.

Yeah nothing has been confirmed. I don't doubt we'll eventually get some cosmetic item or something.

Jimmy and Clegg will be taking you through H1Z1 before we all leave for the holidays. They will be showcasing a list of improvements and some interesting new features. Make sure you tune in this Thursday at 4PM PST. A video of the stream will be available on YouTube the next day.
They will be taking questions via Twitter that day, so send your questions to @H1Z1game and make sure you use the hashtag #H1Z1QA if you want your question to be seen.

Tune in here

Excited.

So they have both fast and slow and fast/slow zombies? Not sure how I feel about that, looks great though. I never tried Dayz and I just bought State of Decay on the Steam sale.

Never been as big of a fan of speedy zombies as I've been of Romero shamblers.

This is going to be be done before DayZ isn't it?

Definitely interested in playing the finished thing in PS4.

Awesome thread

Love how transparent you guys are!

Its such a fascinating thing and whats interesting is how incredibly complex and difficult it is to create a massive open world zombie survival game

Mostly trying to emulate all the expected real world and logical things a person should be able to do! And do it in a way thats both simple and intuitive.

I dunno if H1Z1 will be that game (and you guys are super humble about your ambitions) but I am already liking the amount of thought and resources going into it!

Does it not get pitch black dark anymore like when they first showed it off? It doesn't seem super dark in the latest stream.

I don't think so. Smedley was talking about how much he likes it to be pitch black at night but how most of the team doesn't feel the same way so they made things a little more visible.

Someone change that speed skating gif to show dayz being nipped at the finish line by h1z1.

Man I hope this doesn't take forever to hit ps4 ( I assume they are developing with it in mind moreso than ps2 was originally)

They said a lot of the work is done thanks to the ps2 sharing a lot of the tech. It will still be awhile since they want to nail down the PC version first but the conversion shouldn't take extremely long.

So many hilarious things happened through that stream. Like that surprise bowling hit on the zombies, and some cool things too like spotting that sniper on that big building. And that driver who planted a mine before driving over it with him on the passenger seat were some mean stuff.

Maybe we should build a base together with some shared stuff? And we could also have our own private cribs as well.

Imagine going into a dense forest at night only having each other to count on.

Yep. The wheels are spinning. The game already looks like a lot of fun.

They are putting them up on youtube
