Deus Ex Revision December Update (plan to release mid February 2015)

This is my first thread on GAF so please go easy on me.

What is Revision?

The Revision project overhauls the environments and soundtrack of the 2000 video game Deus Ex, developed by Ion Storm and published by Eidos Interactive (now Square Enix). Where other projects fill in detail around the edges of the game by tuning gameplay mechanics or improving textures, we focus on the visceral core of the experience, bringing new level design, aesthetic direction and world-building detail.

OCTOBER 2015 UPDATE

Deus Ex: Revision's website now has a countdown timer.

APRIL 2015 UPDATE

We’ve finished primary production on Revision 1.0, and have now started our final pre-release playtest. We will be using feedback from this playtest to polish up the gameplay experience and catch any remaining technical issues.

A few general comments
We know that development on this project can be frustratingly slow at times, so thank you for bearing with us. We’re closer than ever to completing this project, and we always appreciate your support.

Time to reinstall GAF

Woah woah woah, redesigning the soundtrack? Why would you ever touch the masterpiece of a soundtrack from this game??

They made a video addressing this - they acknowledge the original is a masterpiece, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for reinterpretation or even improvement using more modern instrumentation. You should check out the clips they've released, the remixes are actually pretty good. Of course, they're offering an option to toggle them on or off.

Revision's been on my radar for over a year now. After work on HDTP ended abruptly I thought I was done waiting on overly-ambitious Deus Ex mods... Of course, the fan community never rests. Gotta hand it to the guys over at OTP, they are a dedicated bunch.

I'll be sincere, i'm very meh towards it.
Changing the soundtrack in my opinion is an error, especially from what i've heard of the new one, level design change is an high risk gamble... it can turn out great like it can be awful.
Also the upgraded character models don't look nice at all (JC's face looks terrible) and from what i gathered in this year it seems that every level shown is pitch black where you can't see a damn thing right after your nose.

I appreciate the hard work though.

The color pallete needed to be tweaked more. Higher detail on dark environments like this just looks way too muddy. Don't really care for the remixed music either.

Surprised this is the first I am hearing about this, I will be keeping a close eye on this from now on. I absolutely love any chance I get to play Deus Ex again.

Nope! The sensible thing is to starve yourself of Deus Ex until Revision actually comes out. That is my plan at least ...

As a sidenote, the project has suffered major delays. Mid February would be nice, but I am not holding my breath.

I've beaten DE for the first time not too long ago with Shifter, Revision, and HDTP installed.

I might give the game another shot when this is fully released but the game is still kinda fresh in my mind.

Everything after Paris was trash. The one-shot levels was not as good when they aren't attached to the huge hub levels.

I wanted to finally replay Deus Ex when HDTP got finished, but seeing that Revision was being made and would incorporate everything from HDTP and New Vision to Shifter, I decided to wait for it.

So fucking happy it is so close. PC gaming the best gaming, improving games 15 years after release.

As long as they adjust the brightness or its just the way the guy decided to take screens then no prob at all.

I hope they have separate toggle options for player models, weapon models, and music. Obviously the original music option is confirmed, but I want the original player models with the updated weapon models. Original player models arent all that bad.

This topic reminds me that I've yet to finish my playthrough of the GMDX mod for DX1. Need to get on that before I can touch Revision. Looking forward to trying it out, though.

Was actually planning on playing this game since I really liked Human Revolution a lot. Nice to have an updated version.

Edit: ah, it seems like it is a revision of the gameplay/soundtrack itself so I guess I will go with the original material at first. Is there a good and finished graphical mod out there?

New Vision and HDTP

Very excited for this. I've always wanted to go through Deus Ex but I feel like I missed out on it during it's time so it is just difficult to get into nowadays.

I love seeing these giant projects, but then I get heartbroken when i realize that almost none of them ever get finished.

This looks like a pretty insane increase in map size. Not drawing any conclusions, good or bad, until I play it, but... whoa. I wonder how the other maps have changed.

But, why? I mean, wouldn't this change the design of the game entirely? Probably making it less focused or something?

I'll hold judgement until I play it, but I'm having my doubts. But hey, it's awesome that this is done for such a great game, and it's free, so I'll probably enjoy it anyway.

Agreed. Reserving judgement, but some things you just don't change. Improved textures and models - fine. Changing the maps and the soundtrack? No. Just no. Really hope they didn't go over the top and ruin it.
