Guys. You can put Xbone sticks in the Wii U Pro controller.

Most people already know that you can put Xbone sticks in a DualShock 4, but I hadn't seen anyone comment on the Wii U Pro controller. I decided to just bust my controller open and see for myself. The result:

Perfect fit.

Even better than the DS4's fit, actually. The mod is slightly more complicated than the DS4, but only slightly. Still super fucking easy. I'm kinda stupid and I still figured it out without reading a guide or watching any videos. It's pretty obvious what you need to do.

You'll need a special tri-wing screwdriver to open up the controller, because Nintendo. I snagged one on Amazon for $3. You'll also need a standard Phillips #00 screwdriver once you're inside. I already had one of those from a different toolkit. These are the specific products I used:

Here's a YouTube video (not mine) that explains how to take the controller apart and swap the sticks. Just ignore the crappy 360 sticks the guy uses. =P

You DO NOT need to "shave" your Xbone sticks like the guy in the video does to his 360 sticks. Xbone sticks fit perfectly just as they are.

Just wanted to spread the word! These bitches are going in every controller I own.

I imagine this turns it into the perfect controller.

thats great, i've been wanting to put the sticks in everything too. Can you put them on trhe 360 pad? I still play tons of gears but I dont like the 360 sticks anymore after feeling thses new sticks.

Are the sticks on the Pro controller bad or something? I've honestly never used one before.
They're fine for me but they are convex (rounded out), and it appears the Xbone sticks are concave (indented).

One of my 360 controller's sticks finally started coming apart on the top after years of off-and-on use, but I have no personal experience with the Xbone sticks.

Nice to know, but of the 3 current gen systems control options, the Wii U Pro controller has my favorite sticks.

They're not as bad as the DS4 sticks but they're still way too slippery for my taste.

I mainly just wanted to have the same sticks in every controller though. It makes switching between consoles less jarring. I already had Xbone sticks in all of my DS4's so I figured it was worth investigating for the Wii U.

It's pretty goddamn close, yeah.

This is the one mod I really want to do. Looks so nice. I'm too afraid I won't put everything back correctly and mess up two controllers.

Personally, it wouldn't be a question of the Pro Controller's sticks being "bad." I feel that they're fine, frankly.

It's more (again personally) that the XBOX ONE sticks are just better. I love the way they feel, treads and all.

Putting them in my DS4 was one of the best decisions I made. Maybe I'll look into this next.

I did this. It was really my first ever controller mod, and they came out fine. Just as long as you're careful, you'll be fine.

It's by preference, really. I like concave sticks.

Thanks OP and for the Amazon links, I'll probably try this out. But I think it might look ugly because I have a white controller. Oh well!

Isn't that one supposed to be super simple? I thought it was just a matter of changing faceplates and putting screws back in. All you should need is the triangular bit tool.

I thought the Xbox one sticks were terrible, very small and it sores the thumb like a old ps2 d pad.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the X1 sticks at all. At least they don't disintegrate like that dude's face in Raiders of the Lost Ark though. I'm looking at you, DS4

I tried putting the sticks from my Pro Controller in my DualShock 4. It felt really good, but a bit too tall.

That was my feeling about putting the Xbox One sticks in my DS4, too. Maybe the XB1 sticks in my Pro Controller would be good.

Out of all the sticks I've used, ds3's are the best. Hate that concave bullshit, my thumbs are too big for that. Xone's are the worst, way too small and concave

What about the bottoms? Can they be replaced with ones for other consoles?

Doubt it. I'm pretty sure that the Wii U buttons can't even be swapped around in their own controller. I could be wrong on that though.

I didn't investigate too much because I was too excited to put the controller back together and test it out. I didn't expect for the sticks to fit so perfectly.

EDIT: Sometimes I really hate being right about everything.

Buttons can't be swapped:

Each one has a set of "fins" in different positions. They only fit in one way. I can only assume that this means Nintendo still has human beings placing each individual button by hand... which is fucking crazy.

Then again, this is Nintendo.

Dam wanted a n3ds/new 3ds like bottom layout (interms of colour)... but that would mean me buying 4 different colours wiiu pro controllers.

I don't know why anybody would want to replace any sticks with the Xbone sticks. They are easily the worst thing about that controller.

Pretty much this. The pro sticks aren't bad, I just find concave better for grip.

DS1, DS2, Sixaxis, DS3, DS4, Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers all have this.

I seriously don't get the love for the Xbone sticks. The hard, rough plastic is very uncomfortable, IMO.

Frankly, I think you're confused. They're rubber, and the first controller I've used where I don't need to reposition my thumbs due to them moving around. They're amazing.

And LOL at "thumb skin" guy. Put some lotion on your hands brah, it's that time of year.

I don't care what the coating is. It has a hard, rough surface and I personally am not a fan. I'm also not a fan of the concave center (which is odd because I loved the 360 sticks).

I think it depends how you hold the sticks. If you're the kind of person who pushes the sticks from the side, then I can understand it might be uncomfortable over time. For someone like me, who places their thumb in the middle of the stick, having the rougher surface around the edge is perfect as it gives you extra purchase as you tilt the stick and stops your thumb from sliding off.

I definitely am an edge of the stick guy so I'm sure that's part of it.

I'd imagine the WiiU Pro sticks are better than the Xbone sticks but I have not tried the Xbone yet.

Fun anectode, people used to replace 360 sticks with Dualshock3 sticks for better grip (specially for FPS games like CoD, lot's of sites sell them as modded FPS controllers, left stick 360 and right stick dualshock-stick) and everytime I've seen people here argue against that when it was brought up and say it should be the other way around. After having tried that, this one of the rare reasons where GAF is wrong.

XB1 sticks are really good depending on how you use the analog stick. I place my thumbs on the edge of the sticks (not the center), and the XB1 sticks have a grippy, textured edge on them which is super nice for control and comfort. It really depends on how you hold the controller though.

I would never in a million years put the XB1 sticks in the Wii U Pro controller. The Pro has the best sticks and stick tension of any of the current gen controllers. I did feel compelled to put the XB1 sticks in the Dual Shock 4s I own though because the included sticks are just a joke.
