STRAFE® on kickstarter has the best Kickstarter video to date

Watched it this morning and I laughed my ass off. Actual game looks cool as well, so I'm interested to see how this campaign goes.

That video's amazing, it's so 90s. Game looks cool, not sure about the goal--seems sensible for a team of people but above what most Kickstarter games do without a huge name. Does 29 days mean it started today or yesterday?

The whole Kickstarter pitch is amazing:

The future of 3D gaming is in your hands. Are you ready to push the limits of computer-generated realism and hardcore scifi action to a new level that threatens the very existence of humanity?*

Good. Humanity is not worthy of STRAFE®:

• BILLIONS of level possibilities with a unique level generated on every load
• OCULUS RIFT compatibility - put yourself inside 100% virtualized "real" environments
• Randomized enemies, monster closets and hidden secrets surprise at every turn
• ÜBER-GORE® Tech for ludicrously persistent gibs
• Lifelike digital gravity
• BLAZING fast gameplay and responsive controls
• Realtime first person upright biped simulation
• Weapon upgrades and power-ups that’ll change your play style
• Unsigned 32 bit colors!
• Colored lighting!
• Ultra large resolutions with a unique 16:9* screen ratio (*only in 2d mode)
• Multi dimensional polygonal meshes derived from over a thousand unique vertices
• STRAFE®!

This is how I feel about Concept Art to Game normally anyway!

That was a great trailer, wonder how much they spent just on that, it was really spot on, the first 30 seconds made me think it was actually an ad for an old game or something.

Game looks awesome and right up my alley, cant wait.

Their website is awesome too

$185,096 is an oddly specific amount of money. I guess they've hammered out a specific development roadmap already, which is a good sign.

However, from what they've shown, STRAFEr seems squarely-targeted at retro nostalgia to cover up its bog-standard gameplay and the devs' lack of credentials. I mean, aside from the style I don't know how enticing STRAFEr is on its own; randomly-generated levels and enemies promise mountains of gore, but leaves no place for good encounter design unless the level and enemy placement are tied together somehow... which leads to repetition. Also, the devs completely gloss over their qualifications as game developers, aside from "well we got good feedback so we're probably OK." (paraphrasing)

I have cautious optimism for this KS, if only because of the dev's realistic goals.

Interesting choice for a game's name. I need to find out when it was chosen or when development started and pull some favors from high up.

A well-done trailer really is the key to a successful campaign. And this is brilliant.

This is getting SO funded. Calling it now.
