Dragon's Dogma Online revealed - PS3/PS4/PC, MMO-ish, F2P, 4-player parties

graphics look like Dragon's Dogma... so yea don't expect something drastically better.

On the PC it might actually be decent with AA/AF, 1080p and 60 fps. It will still be lastgen-looking, sure, but compared to the original the IQ is sure to improve.

yea IQ seems better. But the polygon and lighting seems about the same, which is a shame..

I don't have much faith in Capcom to deliver a decent F2P model but more Dragon's Dogma is welcome in any form as long as it's of a similar quality to the first game.

Looking great so far. The only thing that can kill it for me is unfair monetisation.

I'm really excited to see how this plays out.

As long as this thing plays like the first DD, I'm in. As long as the design isn't compromised by the monetization, this could be really cool.

That's actually true, the combat was so nice in the singleplayer game I wouldn't mind the grind. I'm assuming the combat is basically the same.

"Dragon’s Dogma Online is similar to previous entries terms of combat. Clinging attacks remain present. Players will battle against big enemies in dramatic battles, and monsters can become enraged, leading to fiercer attacks."

So what microtransactions can we expect?

- $ for:

01 buy wakestones (basically continues - dat arcade feeling amirite or am I right?)

02 Custom colors on armor and weapons

03 Funky hairstyles

04 Funky hairstyle colors

05 Other appearance options (catgirl waifu amirite?)

06 vanity items like those useless rings (I think they cost money in the original)

07 Instant Respec option, no need to re-grind a new character (could be a big money earner if you know about how ppl had to make new accounts for pawns because they didn't like their existing one or wanted another one).

08 Another account within the same account. No need for a new PSN ID.

09 straight up buy end game gear, even if your level is too low (nice little earner b/c ppl are dumb, no refunds). Buy catgirl ears and dumb low spec but silly looking stuff like Feists (sp?) hat.

10 A small tax on gifting items (nice little earner), pay much more for bulk gifting to avoid the time entering and exiting the rift, sleeping etc. lol

11 buy port crystals before reaching the areas to acquire them

12 buy ferrystones or pay even more for an infinite ferrystone (like the bonus you get for having a DD save when updating to Dark Arisen.)

13 tax on purifications :)

From the scans looks almost exactly as first game, hope that means 60fps on PS4.

Would be a shame if it drops frames at the low bar of target 30 on PS4 as it will on PS3. Capcom doesn't have a good track record after all looking at the ppl complaining about latest resident evil on PS4.

Magic archer and Mystic Knight are legit, they're especially lethal in close space.

BUT...

spamming Thousand Kisses, then Reset when a mob is going to attack and counter with Masterful Kill is one of my fondest memories ever in videogames.

Magic archer isn't just legit, it's easily the most powerful class on bitterblack isle.

I could potentially deal with pretty much everything until 08. Then the bullshit starts.

Though I'd be kinda bothered with stuff like catgirl waifus, just like I was bothered with anime hair colours in the original DD. It doesn't fit with the world and fucks up the atmosphere.

That said, I'd buy some vanity items, as long as it would be something I find actually cool looking. 'Cause why not.

Well, it still could happen. This is an online spin-off.

Real shame to see the series foced to be Japan focused. They have MH for that.

I think DD2 turned into DDO and capcom grew a brain and relaized a FTP japanese focused game on Xbone would mega bomba.

Yeah that sounds about right. Capcom are a poor shell of their former selves, so its understandable that they would focus on Japan.

Yeah it blows that it's ftp, but if it's fun then I get to have fun for free. And it's Dragon's Dogma, so it's probably gonna be fun.

This is so confusing with all the Ds.

Two separate games--DD* and DDO

Both with fantasy trappings and both F2P and both PS exclusives. Just seems like a lot potential stealing from each other fan bases.

*I know it's just a code name for now.

I'm extremely (cautiously) optimistic for this given how amazing DD was. And to everyone worried about it being called f2p, isn't that sort of like Destiny is now? Very MMO-like, but with extra content for a price? I am personally loving it, so no big complaints from me yet. More importantly, can we import it and be able to play??

When is this supposed to come out? From the scans floating around, it seems like cloth physics is not in anymore, and i'm wondering if it's because it's still early in development, or a concession for online play (and having to still run on ps3).
It'd make me very sad though.

Totally fine with the graphics looking like before. The core graphics are good, the problem was the resolution, frame-rate, and LoD triple threat making the game look and run like a fat snail on the last gen consoles. Hopefully they can push a high framerate on PS4.

I'd hate for that to be the case, but how can you tell from scans?

Still, Dragon's Dogma losing graphic fidelity due to the new online stuff is one of my biggest fears. I loved how so much of the equipment had physics and got wet.

Capes going straight down and looking completely straight even in the middle of a swing, skirts and robes following the back of the leg bending forward (instead of going downwards with gravity) etc.
Hard to tell admittedly, but it just sparked the idea in my head that it'd be one of the first things to cut to make it more tolerable on the weak PS3 hardware.
Let's hope we can at least have it back on ps4/PC, if it's indeed gone from the ps3 version.

I think that's why there are PS4 and PC version. In my eyes , the dev team is talented and i think they understood what were the complain the first time.

My post was full of hope.
