I wondered in the latest 22Cans' video why he mentioned the publisher getting a cut... I don't believe Curiosity or Godus had a publisher. I mean, I understand the point he's making, but it's doesn't seem entirely applicable in this particular instance.
This stood out as strange for me:
But why has it taken so long? Molyneux says Godus' publisher forced a server switch back in November 2014, which then forced 22Cans to build new tech in order for people to keep playing the game. This set the development roadmap back months, Molyneux said.
Seems very odd as I thought going the Kickstarter route meant they could develop the game without a publisher being involved also on Steam there is no mention of a publisher (no idea about mobile stuff though) so it all seemed to be self published to me.
Also must be some mammoth server change to have months of impact, sounds like it could have been some sort of server platform/stack shift (if they just moved servers I'd of guessed they wouldn't need to do anything other than a DNS or IP change).
That shiny new thing in Molyneux's words?
The Trial, will be an “experience never seen before"...will 'build on feelings and emotions untapped so far.”
Maybe we are all playing The Trail right now as the emotions I feel are slight sadness for the Bryan Henderson to not get anything (yet) and disappointment to not see Godus (and 22cans and Molyneux himself) not live up to expectations.
Oh well... I hope they turn this all around and get it sorted.
