Someday I might find one.

Someday.

Got my MM3DSXL a few hours ago, and I'm loving it... mostly. I'm having a hell of a time with the ZR and ZL buttons though. Tried the MGS 3 demo, and it's very difficult to press any of those two buttons without pushing either L or R. Guess my fingers are to short. Suppose I should consider trading it in for a regular model, but I don't want the smaller screens!

The bloody card reader on my pc was freaking out, so I thought, oh well, I'll just do a full wireless transfer. Big mistake, it takes fucking ages. It isn't even that much data anyway (about 5 GB), but why does this take so long? I feel like an idiot, should've copied the data on a different PC. :p

Been playing Majora's Mask for some time. Freaking awesome. My thoughts on the XL:

+ Face tracking 3D is incredible
+ C-stick works like a charm for camera movement
+ System definitely feels faster overall

- Moving the stylus to the front meant a shorter stylus than the one from the previous XL
- Glossy finish

Said I didn't need one, then I wanted to get one over the last few day. I made some calls this morning and every place I called was sold out. Then my wife went into BB and picked me up one with no issues. Super excited to check it out later and really owe my wife big time.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a case for the New 3DS XL? Does it require specific cases, or can I just pick up a case for the original 3DS XL?

How do you download the Dire Moon theme with a system transferred Majora's Mask New 3DS XL?

We can only see the £1.79 price to buy it.
I think it is only for people who purchased it through the Nintendo eShop and the download code is found on the eShop receipt for the game (which is a really confusing way of doing it) and so it doesn't come with the hardware bundle (or using a download code).

That is my understanding anyway. Still might be worth contacting the Nintendo customer services in case I'm wrong (worst case they'll reiterate what I just said).

Have any of you had issues with the fastest PC transfer method. I heard you needed to update the system first to do it.
To even start the system transfer you need both systems on the newest firmware.

I'm at work for another 6 hours and Best Buy has no reds available for order online/store pick up. Wondering if I should just grab the black one or if it's a glitch.

I want to buy in person because I'm trying to trade in some games.

God, this system transfer process has been a nightmare. Granted, I screwed up a step by not making sure to check my new micro SD card file format before I copied the data over but I got this thing 2 hours ago and I've yet to be able to play a single game.

Never mind the fact that after I finally finish this transfer I'll have to DL MH4 again since it was preinstalled.

Thanks Nintendo!

Just got home from picking up my system and Majora's mask from GameStop. This is what it looks like outside Target. They are camping for the Zelda 3DS. 52 degrees outside in Central Florida :O

My PC doesn't have a card reader but I think my Mac does... Is it true it doesn't work with Mac?
No. As long as it can read and write to SD cards it's fine

What doesn't work with Mac is wireless access to the micro SD, but that has nothing to do with the transfer

Just got my XL. The red XL looks beautiful. Both me and my friend's have weird molding issues. Mine has a weird small bump under the buttons that's annoying and my friend's has a sharp edge on the side.

Also, the new 3D makes it bearable to play with it on now. I feel like it adjusts a little too slow though and ends up with it constantly clicking into the new angle as you move your head around.

I have to say I'm pretty impressed with the build quality compared to my old XL. I feel like this is what the 3DS should have been back when it came out.

I couldn't resist the temptation to check my new black model out; popped it out of the box at work and took a peek.

Far, far classier than I expected, aesthetically. Almost a gunmetal gray rather than black, with subtle diagonal lines on the outside and a comfy texture inside.

Really looking forward to playing MM3D on this thing. Just under 2 hours of work left to go...

Becomes baffled, curling up into a ball when confronted with three controller options.
This waiting game with UPS is annoying, almost as annoying as waiting for my 6+ on launch day. They keep playing games with me, my emotions can't take it :(

i. love. you .GAF :)

Each OT that i see is better than the previous one. Insane work.

Thanks kubus
Just wanted to pop in and say: Beautiful and informative thread, as always, kubus!

I might get a N3DS XL next month.
Aww, thank you both <3. Always nice to hear your work is appreciated.

Also a small part in me dies everytime I read questions in this thread that are quite blatantly answered in the OP, but ah well, it wouldn't be neogaf if people actually read OPs :)

Got my monster hunter N3DSXL this morning. Sexy looking machine, wow.
This is my first nintendo console and it feels great. The only problem I have with the 3DS is that I keep pressing "B" button when I need to press "A" .

FYI, to save people some time:

You can swap the 4GB microSD card with your higher capacity card before initiating the transfer. Simply answer that the system hasn't used any other SD card and move the files from your source 3DS to the target microSD when prompted after the license transfer completes.

The transfer process really sucked but everything is 100% there.
This is what I did. Worked.

I picked up my New 3DS From GameStop at 12:30 PM.
It is now 3:19 PM and I just got back from GameStop for doing the trade in.
I just knew the GameStop employee was going to try and convince me to get a Gift Certificate, he tried saying it would be easier on my credit card since he had to return the first one outright then do the transaction all over again.
So I made it easy for him and used a different credit card for the second transaction. Also meant I was not using the same credit card for a return then repurchase right after. Win Win.

Nintendo really, really needs to get with the times though.
Truth me told the Transfer Process was not that bad, took about 30 minutes total and I even had to update the New 3DS, but it is just so damn archaic. It truly is.

And the whole deal with the MicroSD card and having to remove the cover, truly, truly awful. I already stripped one of the screws putting it back on, and I was SUPER careful, but I literally had no idea when it was getting towards the end. None. It just refused to move any further, and the screws are so cheap even moving very lightly caused it to strip some.

Still, I have the New 3DS now. I have never played Majora's Mask and this is also my first Monster Hunter game. I picked both games up (perhaps foolishly, but I did get them both) and I think I will play Zelda first, as it sounds like Monster Hunter is a game that will last for a long, long time.

How is the battery life so far?

Hoping its better than the Vita, who would notoriously kill itself with its stupid blue light 24/7, draining the battery and making playing any game for more than 3 hours an issue.

Pretty sure it's impossible to include more FAQs and/or general information in one OP than you did here. Nice work just the same!

Wait wait wait wait wait.

*Takes deep breadth to absorb information*

What?!?! Is there no way around that?
I don't think so. It's only compatible with Windows 7 and 8 I believe. It sucks - I'm on Mac too, but I do have a Bootcamp partition with Windows 8 if I really like I will need this

Any thoughts on where I might be able to find one of these? None of the Walmarts, Targets, Best Buys, or Gamestops in my region (Boston area) are showing in stock.

I can always wait, of course, but day-1 Nintendo hardware is one of my few vices.

Red New 3DS XL obtained. Transfer complete.

Not sure if I'm loving it.

- The super stable 3D isn't perfect. It seems to freak out occasionally. Rarely, but occasionally.
- L and R are now harder to press since ZL and ZR are there.
- The stylus is smaller, in a less convenient spot, and harder to pull out.
- The power button is in a weird place. Not a huge deal though since I rarely turn the system off.
- Getting the backplate off was a pain. I thought I was going to break it.

+ The buttons feel nice.
+ The d-pad is massively better than my old 3DS XL's d-pad.
+ I like the c-stick, though switching back and forth between it and buttons will take some getting used to.
+ Start and select are in a better place, and the home button feels nicer.

Are there any hand grips available yet for the new 3DS?

Cause I did it EEEEBAYYY

Please note that because of Nintendo's (arguably poor) choice for the new system version names, you're still going to find grips for the previous model 3DS XL. The quick eyeball way to tell would be the hole/gap on the bottom of the grip as the "NEW" 3DS XL has the stylus slot on the bottom as opposed to the right side.

As a last minute decision, I thew my Blue 3DS XL up for sale on facebook and went to bestbuy.com. They had the black one for sale, in store pick up. I ordered it. Got to the store and found out it was the last one. Score!

I just really hope they improved the standby batter life. My vita has been in standby for over a week, and at full battery when i turn it back on.

My old 3DS would last barely 3 days in standby.

WAIT. WAIT HOLD ON!

The CPP buttons function on the Home Screen now! ZL/R tab the screen over, and the nub can be used to select games.

This is the true megaton.

Im annoyed. I got my N3DS XL and it's great and all. I can't get into contact with customer support to have all the digital games I had on my old 3DS XL transferred over to my N3DS XL. I've been trying all day. Couple weeks ago when I called Nintendo support to get info on what steps to take before trading in my old one I made it a point to ask about whether or not this would happen and he assured me it wouldnt. LIAR!

Wish my stuff was account base rather than system base.
