It's still a tremendous effort though. It's a flawed gem.

I'm a sucker tight art direction, and this ranks right up there with Deus Ex:HR, Killzone 2 and PoP2008.
Just curious, what is your background?
I am a member here but not a regular so to speak, and I am curious as to why people are letting your single opinion dictate whether they are going to make a purchase or not.
It is not a knock against you whatsoever, I am truly and sincerely curious what makes your opinion a definitive one that is powerful enough to sway people's intentions.

if the game is short prices for used copies will hit rock bottom within a week or two.
get the game from target (in store) and you'll get a $20 PSN card for $5.

He's just a poster here, but there's very few impressions so far, and most have been positive.

I'd say anyone swayed off buying the game based on Rapier's impressions (he liked the game too, btw) never really had much interest in it to begin with.

I will say, that after playing through it a second time, the gunplay is nice and meaty, and even more satisfying now that i have experience. I've been experimenting with Galahad's melees; throwing smoke bombs and running up and wrecking shit. I've seen some brutal shit that I never saw during the first playthrough.

This post pleases me.

In ways.

Even after reading all the craziness this weekend I'm still hyped for this game. The art design sucked me in when it was revealed, and the fact that it's not overly long appeals to me with my schedule right now.

I don't have a problem with the characters either; they're quite engaging I thought. The problem is some of them need more fleshing out; more backstory would have been welcomed. There was a bit that I missed first time through; there are little hints here and there that give away possible motivations behind certain characters.

Ok this is sounding good, I love it when you notice things that maybe werent weren't apparent first time round wether that be gameplay or in the dialogue. The Last Of Us was one of those for me where the dialogue had more meaning the second time round because you obviously knew what was gonna happen.

I know I'm willing to spend more money on games than other things because it's a hobby I enjoy supporting. Kind of surprised that doesn't seem to be the prevailing position on GAF.

Yeah I use to be surprised too, but not anymore. "Value for money" seems to play a huge part in how a game is perceived, even amongst enthusiasts. Probably due to it being a mainstream yet relatively expensive hobby.

Nobody ruins my family vacation but me...and maybe the boy!
I'm only about an hour in so far, but one thing that's really jarring to me is the lack of any reflections of the character in the mirrors or windows, despite the surfaces being highly reflective.

Other than that, it's your standard fare cover shooter, it's been quite a cinematic but linear affair so far.

Huge missed opportunity on the story.

I was nervous about it, honestly. Too many games have had great promise with the story and once I get through them I end up feeling cheated. I was hoping with this it wouldn't be another Heavenly Sword scenario. But for all the secrecy they had, and those promising Dev diaries... It let me down.

They didn't have enough time, evidently. The plot strands, story elements, characters, they all feel cobbled together and unsubstantiated.

What about the other aspects besides story?
How's the replayability? Do you see yourself replaying it?

I know someone in particular on this forum who will disagree with my opinion, but I do look at all my forms of entertainment in a similar fashion.

To me it's what I get out of the experience, not strict $/Hours value assessment.

I go to a hockey game and spend $100 to watch my team play for 2.5 hours and lose terribly.
I pay $30 for food and drinks and ticket for a movie at the theatre.
So I actually happen to think that $60 for a really fun gaming experience is well worth my money. The fact I own it forever if I choose so and can replay it any time in the future is just gravy.

Again, I understand some people may not have that luxury financially (though I am by no means wealthy, just...*unburdened* aka single :p )

One minor gripe with the game, I remember reading about hugely destructible environments and that is nowhere to be found in the game, it's just some wooden structures/cover and some glass that can be destroyed and the rest is indestructible.

Why there aren't any impressions from the couple of dudes who recently posted pics of the game?

Not even some early impressions? Come on guys.

Edit: whoops

GAF had a thread about the game's promise of dynamic destruction here.

Here's the main bit from the original article that thread was based upon:

VG 24/7 said:
The game has dynamic destruction, and while we’re not talking about Battlefield 4 levels of military bombast, Ready At Dawn’s surface and environmental destruction is rather impressive. We saw Weerasuriya jump into a stone courtyard and pumped rounds from the protagonist’s Combogun – an assault rifle and shotgun hybrid – into a brass fixture set into a wall. The object crumpled and imploded with force after each round found its mark, deforming it in real-time.

He then spawned in a bunch of teddy bears and went all Robocop on their stuffed asses, first blowing off a head, and then four limbs one at a time. This might sound like a gimmick, but we were all assured that dynamic destruction, texture warping and convincing object physics lie at the heart of The Order: 1886′s gameplay. When the crowd asked why, we were told it wasn’t yet time for that particular discussion.

Does that description not match up with the finished product?

I don't want to get too detailed as the game is not out yet. I plan on beating it tonight but even than I will comment very broadly without specifics.

I do like how the gun play feels. Very loose yet there is some weight.

From what I understand, it does, but the problem is not EVERYTHING is deformable/destructible.

However, the items and environment pieces that can be affected do indeed match up with that level of detail.

Sounds like no. There are destructable elements of the environment and lots of gore but not as comprehensive as that demo had.

That's ok mate. Some general, non-spoilerific impressions will do. ;)

Thanks.

I think they might be describing
a C4 like bomb you implant on some structures to take down
, they are done in real time, but they're scripted, don't know if that would count.

I'm pretty sure they're vampires and the knights of the round facade is simply a farce to undermine their centuries-long lycan genocide.

Goddamn the Review thread got bodied that quick? lmao

OT: I'm liking what I'm hearing from the impressions as well.

Not because it went to shit, but because the embargo is still like two days away. It was 800 posts on one review and a whole lot of Metacritic predictions.

Hey guys, quick question, has anyone been able to redeem the code for the dynamic theme today? I keep getting a code not valid or it's been used, is it just not up yet?
