The Order 1886 | Impressions Thread of not shooting the messenger.

You are right. We live in a difficult industry though. If your game is flawed, it won't be easy to make a sequel. That said, in my opinion RAD is in a good position. Many PS4 gamers are craving a new exclusive, there is not much else to play and it's a genre almost everyone plays. And most PS4 games sell really well. They should certainly be able to make profit.

I think reviews have to be REALLY bad to ruin this.
That's true. Even if it's somewhat middling (we'll see tomorrow!), it's got a lot going in its favor right now.
Can someone compile a top 5 analogies to have come out of this whole debacle?
Something something steak.

I'm making the Metal Gear Solid V OT. Pls bless me for this task, Mr. Bruce.

For I fear I shall not be able to match its predecessor in terms of scale ;_;

You must exceed it in scale, Dawg, or you will be ashamed of your words and deeds
and your OT

Ready at Dawn's bickering is not helping too, to be honest :p Agreed that a lot of critics are misplaced but trying to pass that people who don't like the game is because they lack the taste for it is damn silly. That whole gamespot article, with the myriad of other things they said beforehand, they really need a PR person.

That food analogy is also always the worst one you can do

so... anyone with the game playing on a serious surround sound system? Various impressions on here paint the sound as "good". How good? Hows the positional audio, the ambient background, are there a lot of layers?

Last game that blew me away (with sound) was driveclub... the best part was the accuracy. At the start of the game I remember thinking, hmmmm, this doesn't sound all that beast... but at the time I was driving a hot-hatch. It was the supercharger on the Evora that really opened my eyes, and from there the cars just kept getting better. All the subtleties really come together, and there is a lot to appreciate.

I hope the Order is the same. I'd love to hear leaves blowing across the cobblestone as a train's wheels grind against the rails in the distance and my shotgun's concussion lights up the eardrums.

I'm gonna crank the Klipsch on Friday night and hope to be amazed.

I'll be knee deep in Zbrush but I'll definitely pay attention.
Also, if anyone wants to add create gifs with humorous, here's a scene from the order that I've used to create some gifs.
cgzfao.gif

someone should upgrade that gif so the one walking in with the announcement is its 8am Thursday order reviews are in. And all the ppl standing up are labeled troll, fanboy, mods etc etc :)

Ha bro I wish you all the luck in the the world. When I started making the MGS4 thread I pretty much read every piece of information I could find on the lore of the whole franchise and when I was done I probably could have gotten a doctorate in MGS Lore but then I played 4 and I honestly couldn't figure out what in the hell was going on.

I just really want this game to do good and get a sequel... I truly do hate it when games do bad.

Back in 2010, probably one of my favorite shooters released. A game probably only a few of you even remember. That game was MAG. It was awesome. It had issues, a lot of them actually, but holy shit did I have fun times with my clan back in the day. That was great. But it just didn't do good- the playerbase fell hard and eventually they shut it down. The game is now no longer playable, only in my imagination.

It sucked you know? sure there's Planetside 2, but it's not the same. It really isn't. MAG 2 was a game I longed for and I would love to see it on PS4. I saw so much potential in MAG's future- and that future got dark quick. While obvious The Order won't have to deal with server shutdown, I don't want it's future to go out like MAG's did.

I want to see what they can do, how they can improve. That's all.

Sorry if I'm being melodramatic.

Is my post not clear? I'm just saying that I want The Order to do good- to not be a game with a lot of potential that just falls to the way side and we never see a sequel that could improve and explore further.
I want them to make a sequel, and show what else they can do.

when is the review embargo up? 8am tomorrow EST? Won't the game already be out in Australia by then?

Pretty much....but unless you are one of those types who attend midnight launches (or stays up until then for a digital unlock), it won't really matter.

I agree a little bit.
I feel for RAD, it's their first console release, and it's been thrown into the spotlight, they will be sooooooo nervous about how it reviews/sells. I think they are just cracking under the pressure a little.
I'm sure it will all end well for them, but it must be a nightmare for them just sitting and waiting to see what happens next.

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.

"Hello, old friend. It's been a while. I made a sacred oath never to cloud my judgment with you again. But, the day of reckoning is upon us. The review thread is tomorrow. Let's get put old grievances in the past, shall we?"

Did you find all the interactive objects? I missed one. Driving me insane!

I've been away from my ps4, so I haven't gone back. I know I straight up skipped over some because I started realizing they didn't matter to the story much at all.

Where does it track how many you've found?

Nowhere :(

Except for the phonographs in your archive.

So many people nowadays place so much weight in reviews and review scores. I guess its not their fault, as it's the only way to judge a game without buying it

Bring back the days when most games had a demo before release. That was truly the best way to decide for yourself if a game was worth buying

Naw, bring back the days when you only had box art whereby to judge a game.

The RAD guys never even hint at this sentiment. Not even close.

They're talking about the rampant negativity that existed before the game was ever played. I'm surprised they spoke so honestly about it.

So the final impressions before calling it a night. Just finished the airship chapter which had me going HHNNNNG every damn room I got into and man this game turns out to be fucking great. It starts slow but it catches up quickly and hits you right in the face. Apart from the amazing visuals I'm liking the story so far, the top notch voice acting sure adds a lot, the music, the gunplay holy shit the guns, thermite is crazy, shotguns so satisfying to dismember. The whole game feels so polished, attention to details is staggering. Think I got around 5 hours for 5 chapters just taking my time inspecting every corner for collectibles and admiring the levels and if the game keeps going at the same rate I'm getting way beyond the 10 hour mark.

Also for the haters:
