Yeah, I was kind of hoping it was Z since I hadn't played that one.
Imported it from japan at release.
Besides the fanservice, this game wasn't really worth it...
I agree. And the graphics aren't that great anyway. I'm heading to Japan for a visit this summer and will be bringing the game with me to sell off.
My brief impressions from last year:
Worth picking up at a budget price? I guess, but Senran Kagura has the GOOD boob-brawling on lockdown. Get Senran, skip this.
Well, it's America, we can't be having BOOBS on the shelves at Walmarts.
Also, it's awesome that XSEED continues to bring things over dual-audio.

Hmmm. Thanks for the info. It's never been a great game anyway, but will probably wait for a sale depending on the price.

I don't understand why these games haven't gotten a lot better. Tamsoft also works on the Senran Kagura games, which have gotten noticeably better with each new installment. Oneechanbara is essentially the same game. Z2 is pretty much the previous game, only with the added 4-man tag system and a better frame rate...and with the removal of NoNoNo from the PS3 version. And if you're going to sell a game on fan service, at least put some effort into the visuals.

I like the 360 game they brought over here. Fanservice of course being a draw but I also got quite into the gameplay and missions. Still some that are a real challenge that I haven't completed, such as requiring continuous spot-on timing on combo attacks.
Will get this if I follow through on the likelihood of PS4 really being the first console I pick up from this generation.

Oh, hey- another sub-par D3 game!
When you play with the English dub (because again, it's dual audio!), we dubbed the Engrish as Japanglish -- so, for example, where Kagura would say "Hey, mole! Time to revenge!" in the Japanese (yes, that's the actual line), she says "Oi, mogura! Koroshite yaru!" in the English (with English subtitles, of course).
We figured it was only fitting!
Sorry! But we did learn what part of the UAE that was actually supposed to be, and labeled it properly as "Dubai."
This is, by all accounts, the best game in the Onechanbara series by a wide margin, and is quite beloved in the office by our fighting game aficionados especially, as it's apparently a very "technical" game, with tons of depth to its combat and a lot of potential for crazy combos.
...I say "apparently" because I suck at fighting games, so when I play it, I just kind of "intelligently button-mash." Which works pretty well -- I feel like a badass doing all kinds of crazy moves, even if I don't know exactly how I pulled them off -- but does make some of the boss battles pretty tough. This is definitely a game that calls for people to learn its ins and outs and play it "right" in order to be fully appreciated.
Which should come as no surprise, being a Tamsoft title (the same company responsible for the Senran Kagura games).
We said we wouldn't be releasing any games on the basis of fanservice alone. But as with Akiba's Trip, we saw a lot to like with Onechanbara aside from its fanservice. It's a deep, fun brawler with a party rock soundtrack and a cast of fun characters with laissez-faire attitudes and kick-ass moves. It's a bit cheesecake, to be sure, but one thing I like about it is that when you get past the outfits, you have a cast of strong female protagonists led by a badass female military commander fighting back hordes of zombies without breaking a sweat -- it's very much a "girl power" game at its core, it just happens to also be kind of sexy about it.
But, I mean... how can you not love any game where THIS is the theme song?

So ridiculous, but so catchy. It's like a microcosm of the game itself.

Closer to DMC and other character action games, there are lots of enemies at times though.

What's funny is, I was going to say Musou.
But actually, I've never played a Musou game before (not once!), whereas I have played and enjoyed several of the Devil May Cry titles... and to me, Onechanbara Z2 felt like my perception of what the Musou games are like, but with the style of Devil May Cry and the sexiness of Senran Kagura.-Tom

For those not in the know, Onechanbara is like DMC made by two Japanese guys in a garage. Not as much depth but still fun to do combos in.
Also I noticed that some of the guys that worked at XSEED also used to work at D3, so it doesn't surprise me to see some lines of communication opened up.

Well, I'm not exactly expecting DMC, but is it at least on par with Suda's games? They don't really have any depth at all, but I still have a lot of fun with them.

Will there be a demo? I have never played these games before but the QL for an older one on Giant Bomb was pretty funny and the publisher sales pitch did a good job.

Hm... that's actually a lot more difficult of a question than I thought. I'd say it has MORE combat depth than Killer is Dead and No More Heroes, but KiD has better enemies....
If you still have fun with something like KiD then there's no way you won't have fun with this game.
