Sigh, of course they're localizing it since I already imported the Japanese version. I'll probably double-dip anyway since it's dual audio.

Well people already figured out that teaser from a while back so it only could have been this for Z with Nonono!. :p

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
Imported it from japan at release.
Besides the fanservice, this game wasn't really worth it... :)

I agree. And the graphics aren't that great anyway. I'm heading to Japan for a visit this summer and will be bringing the game with me to sell off.

My brief impressions from last year:

OK, so awful load times (average of 38 seconds per loading screen) and subpar visuals (this game barely looks any better than the PS3 version, which was already not very impressive) aside, the game play is actually pretty good and you can do some crazy combos with the tag feature, which now allows you to switch between up to four characters during battle. There seems to be a pretty good amount of moves/combo strings and each character gets two weapons that they can switch between at any time. I'm more impressed with this version of the game than any of the previous ones, but it still feels like an over-priced Simple 2000 Series 2000 yen game.

Worth picking up at a budget price? I guess, but Senran Kagura has the GOOD boob-brawling on lockdown. Get Senran, skip this.

Glad they listened when I said to bring over Z2. Bringing over the 1st game would've been a mistake.

Though XSEED cannot work miracles and ask for a PC version to be developed :p

Zonic

Gives all the fucks
I keep forgetting I downloaded the 360 game for only $3 when it was on sale. Though I'm guessing that's nowhere near as good as this PS4 version?

....also I need to pick up a PS4 eventually. Just wish I had the money....

Yes!! Glad I didn't import from Japan. Will be getting this. Hopefully the EU release is close to the US one, or I'll import it from there.

Hmmm. Thanks for the info. It's never been a great game anyway, but will probably wait for a sale depending on the price.

Oh man, would someone get banned for linking that banana & strawberry costume? I saw those in-game images when it was announced, but something about those promo ones... neat.

So glad that specific costume is being brought over, even though there's no way I'm touching this.

Someone linked it on the first page, kinda surprised it's still there.

I don't understand why these games haven't gotten a lot better. Tamsoft also works on the Senran Kagura games, which have gotten noticeably better with each new installment. Oneechanbara is essentially the same game. Z2 is pretty much the previous game, only with the added 4-man tag system and a better frame rate...and with the removal of NoNoNo from the PS3 version. And if you're going to sell a game on fan service, at least put some effort into the visuals.

I like the 360 game they brought over here. Fanservice of course being a draw but I also got quite into the gameplay and missions. Still some that are a real challenge that I haven't completed, such as requiring continuous spot-on timing on combo attacks.

Will get this if I follow through on the likelihood of PS4 really being the first console I pick up from this generation.

This might sound stupid but this kinda makes me wanna get a PS4. Not Bloodborne, not Uncharted 31 but Onechanbara. Man did I love the one on the Xbox.

This game is really fun.
Just pure stupid action and tons of engrish. It's great.

When you play with the English dub (because again, it's dual audio!), we dubbed the Engrish as Japanglish -- so, for example, where Kagura would say "Hey, mole! Time to revenge!" in the Japanese (yes, that's the actual line), she says "Oi, mogura! Koroshite yaru!" in the English (with English subtitles, of course).

We figured it was only fitting!

Also, I still hope the Saudi Arabia level is still called ARAB.

Sorry! But we did learn what part of the UAE that was actually supposed to be, and labeled it properly as "Dubai."

Dat PS4 line up. Geez. Is this actually a fun action game?
Is this suppose to be good anyone played the Japanese version ?
The one Xbox 360 was not really good .

This is, by all accounts, the best game in the Onechanbara series by a wide margin, and is quite beloved in the office by our fighting game aficionados especially, as it's apparently a very "technical" game, with tons of depth to its combat and a lot of potential for crazy combos.

...I say "apparently" because I suck at fighting games, so when I play it, I just kind of "intelligently button-mash." Which works pretty well -- I feel like a badass doing all kinds of crazy moves, even if I don't know exactly how I pulled them off -- but does make some of the boss battles pretty tough. This is definitely a game that calls for people to learn its ins and outs and play it "right" in order to be fully appreciated.

Which should come as no surprise, being a Tamsoft title (the same company responsible for the Senran Kagura games).

Didnt XSEED say they wouldn't do more fanservice games besides SK?

We said we wouldn't be releasing any games on the basis of fanservice alone. But as with Akiba's Trip, we saw a lot to like with Onechanbara aside from its fanservice. It's a deep, fun brawler with a party rock soundtrack and a cast of fun characters with laissez-faire attitudes and kick-ass moves. It's a bit cheesecake, to be sure, but one thing I like about it is that when you get past the outfits, you have a cast of strong female protagonists led by a badass female military commander fighting back hordes of zombies without breaking a sweat -- it's very much a "girl power" game at its core, it just happens to also be kind of sexy about it. ;)

But, I mean... how can you not love any game where THIS is the theme song?

So ridiculous, but so catchy. It's like a microcosm of the game itself. ;)

ICHIBAN WA ME!

So glad I didn't import! When can I pre-order?

Edit: Tom, sincereley, thank you and XSEED so much for this. My alarm has been waking me up with this game's theme song since the Japanese trailers. Love that you went the extra mile and made it dual audio. Can't wait to play through multiple times in both languages. Cheesecake B-tier demon bustin' character action makes me so happy.

Looks fun. I'll go ahead and give it a go when it releases.

Is it closer to a Musou game or Devil May Cry? I like both so it's not an issue but I'm curious.

Closer to DMC and other character action games, there are lots of enemies at times though.

What's funny is, I was going to say Musou. ;) But actually, I've never played a Musou game before (not once!), whereas I have played and enjoyed several of the Devil May Cry titles... and to me, Onechanbara Z2 felt like my perception of what the Musou games are like, but with the style of Devil May Cry and the sexiness of Senran Kagura.

For those not in the know, Onechanbara is like DMC made by two Japanese guys in a garage. Not as much depth but still fun to do combos in.

Also I noticed that some of the guys that worked at XSEED also used to work at D3, so it doesn't surprise me to see some lines of communication opened up. :p

Just wanted to say that I wasn't criticising, I'll buy both SK2 and this. Just thought it was a weird statement when you can't really get a lot more fanservice-y than those titles. Happy to hear that there's a decent game underneath and thanks for the work you're doing!

Well, I'm not exactly expecting DMC, but is it at least on par with Suda's games? They don't really have any depth at all, but I still have a lot of fun with them.

Will there be a demo? I have never played these games before but the QL for an older one on Giant Bomb was pretty funny and the publisher sales pitch did a good job.
also those bonus costumes going to be bonus for the digital game as well?

Hm... that's actually a lot more difficult of a question than I thought. I'd say it has MORE combat depth than Killer is Dead and No More Heroes, but KiD has better enemies....
If you still have fun with something like KiD then there's no way you won't have fun with this game.

Uh... damn, I was bored at work yesterday and was browsing through LinkedIn and I swore I saw some XSEED guys had worked at D3. If I find it I'll let you know. :p

EDIT: Oops, I mixed up Aksys and XSEED again.

I LOVE Killer is Dead.

I guess I'm good to go, then!
