Like a third of these should be easy to knock out. I don't understand what the issue is

Now this is good list of updates. If Sony implemented all this then they would have the GOAT updates.

But knowing Sony, we will get one of these features every 6 months :-(

Will S/R fuck with the timers on game files? Like your total hours.

Does the current baby version do that actually?

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like

We already have trophy auto sync (if you have PS+)...now if your asking for immediate autosync the moment you unlock a trophy I doubt that will ever happen.

Suspend/Resume
Folders / Game Organization - Would be very nice
Local Media Player - Really should be in there
DLNA (or any other home network streaming) - Wait for DLNA 2.0. Regular DLNA is shit compared to something like Plex
Throphy Autosync - Also would be nice
Friends Notification - They need to build categories for friends first. I don't want to see when 1000 people come online
Appear Offline - Would be very nice
Change PSN ID - This isn't a PS4 firmware issue, but an entire PSN issue that will more than likely take a lot of work to get done
PNG Screenshots - I would love this one very much
External HD - Probably not gonna happen since you can upgrade your internal one

.

It shouldn't mess with timers. It probably acts like snr on the Vita, where it essentially stops the game in its tracks until you resume it.

Well hey, at least they knocked out the biggest one!

Is there even a way to currently track hours? Guessing you mean in-game. In that case S/R doesn't mess with the few Vita titles that track hours so I assume it'll be good here. I used it all the time with P4G.

I kind of like the idea of screenshots being taken when you earn a trophy, but I bet the feature will either annoy people by flooding their console with screenshots or the shots will be taken far too often after the "moment" is over resulting in a screenshot that basically shows nothing interesting. We'll see.

Of course I mean immediate autosync.
In this modern world of social media, gaining a trophy is PSN's equivalent of a facebook-status/tweet/intagram-photo/achievement/blog-post/check-in/etc.....

Can you imagine Twitter saying that the tweets you entered will automatically be posted at midnight every night (unless you manually sync them)?
That's how I see the current state of trophy sync.

I don't give a shit about suspend/resume or remote play.

But removing games from tropies is a MEGAFUCKINTON, now I just wanna be able to merge all my accounts' trophy lists into one & I'm one happy person. My current account is missing a lot of plats from my previous account (mainly dark souls & uncharted, & I don't feel like going back to PS3 right now), I already have the trophies in my other account, come on Sony.

When can I get PS2 games playable on the Vita? This is the biggest offense to me. I literally bough a Vita thinking that this was going to be a reality and it hasn't been yet. There's nothing showing the Vita can't handle it so can we get this next please? Thanks

Based off these new features Sony revealed so far, FW 2.50 is looking like a good update.

Also I get why people are still complaining about the PS4 lacking media features like DNLA support and playing movies/music off the HDD since these features work on the XB1 and PS3 but I'm sure they will come in due time. I rather they continue to focus on features that actually benefit games first like the already released Shareplay and these soon to be released features like 60FPS Shareplay and remote play, Suspend resume, and button mapping which is a huge feature that currently no console has. People forget the PS4 is a gaming machine first and media device second. Don't get me wrong I think new media features are cool and will be a welcome additions whenever they arrive but I will gladly take features that actually improve gaming over media support.

Nice to see Sony expanding their sharing option with Dailymotion. I hope they continue this.

This is all I want and most of these are insanely minor I would've never guessed we'd be at a year and a half since release and still waiting for friend notifications

:( what about bluetooth headset support? I want to be able to use mine (or similar) -> http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0042R81XU/?tag=neogaf0e-20

I don't understand the need to delete trophy lists anyway, but do people have a lot of games with 0% trophies?
I would have guessed no considering most games will usually give you your first trophy within like 20 minutes (tutorials etc.).
At least for me that's the time I give e.g. most PS+ games before deciding that I don't like them.

edit: mh, just checked, I actually have a lot of 0% entries actually. Though mostly from games that I know I wanted to play at some point and only set them up to the point that I could start them whenever I feel like it. Actually kinda useful to check on your backlog /remind me which PS+ games I have, I don't think I will delete them :p

The ps4 uses an extremely high amount of power even in standby mode. I turn mine off whenever possible, so I can see the concern.

Same. I almost never leave stuff on standby to conserve power, so suspend/resume is essentially as useless to me on PS4 as it was on Xbox One when I had one of those.

Funnily, the Wii U's quick start has proven far more useful to me at this point.

Huh? The PS4 uses only 3 watts when in standby mode. That's about $3 a year. It's 8.5 watts if you enable USB-charging in standby mode, which I wouldn't recommend due to the micro-USB connector of the DS4s that allow you to use far more convenient and efficient chargers or charging stations.

History-640x336.png

You'd likely save money by keeping the PS4 in standby mode to download updates automatically at night in a temporary medium power state than to download updates while the console is fully powered on drawing far more power (along with the TV).

A very good post. I've never understood the "saving money" reasoning behind not using standby mode.

Accessibility Options: “Yukimura” introduces a wide variety of options to make their PS4 entertainment experience even more accessible. Options include text to speech, enlarged text, bolder fonts, higher contrast UI, zoom for displayed pictures, invert colors on screen and more. Users will also be able to reassign buttons for DualShock 4, making it easier for users with limited manual dexterity or limited reach and strength to play.

Wow at the bolded stuff.
That's really awesome.

What about dat stability, though?

is standby the same thing though? On the Xbox One I pretty sure they're referring to something different.

If you use instant-on which supports suspend/resume it's using about 15 W according to their site but only 0.5 W if you use the regular standby energy saving mode

A very good post. I've never understood the "saving money" reasoning behind not using standby mode.

Ok, with my electricity prices it runs up to 7€ for 3 W per year. Now say I have a few consoles, a TV, an amp etc.. It adds up. That's the point with small numbers they add up.

Automatic trophy sync and automatic updates are free features on PS4, they don't require Plus.

That's a nice update.

Suspend/Resume.
Ability to delete 0% games from your trophy list.
60 FPS Remote/Share play.
Button Remapping.

I only really care about the two at the top, but they are all great additions!

I gotta keep banging the Plex drum here since apparently there's a fair number of people that don't know it exists. It's home network streaming and there's a native app for the PS4, no need to go through the browser.

Paid registration is mandatory for the app though.

Currently Plex is only available on PS4 with a paid subscription. I'm not paying a subscription to stream my local content in my home. I'll cross off home streaming when Plex is finally released and free.

NOTE: I would pay for the PLEX app, but a reoccurring subscription fee? Not a chance.

It works quite well and it takes a shot when the trophy is shown on screen. So it is sometimes a few seconds after the event that triggers it, like most trophies.

It'll probably be a $5 one-time fee when it's it off beta, I think that's what they charge for the Roku version. Is that still too much? Plex is free for both the server and PC client, and you can use the browser client on the PS4 for free too.
Edit: took too long replying, hate typing on phones, so you are okay with a fee

That's how I see the current state of trophy sync.

I understand what you are saying but for me, auto-syncing is just one more thing for my system to have to perform, thus increasing the chance of a game crash, etc. I mean, really, is it that important that your trophy is immediately updated to your trophy list as soon as you get it? Do people really sit there on their friends trophy list and refresh it waiting to see if new ones pop up? I would much rather just have it do an auto-sync when I hit the sleep mode or turn off the system each time.

Same for me. Is the XB1 Plex app available w/o a sub right now? Maybe that would help to gauge when the paid PS4 app will come out. But if it's after they've added native PS4 dlna support I will just continue to use Serviio like I currently do for the PS3. Though I would really like to have a more slick presentation of the meta data etc.

Remote play @ 60fps is great, i wonder if IQ will suffer though.
Actually, i wonder HOW MUCH IQ will suffer.

Suspend / resume is amazing too, even though i don't see myself using it a lot.

Needs PNG screenshots. In screenshots, multiplatform games are looking better on XBO because of dem uncompressed grabs

So who needs to see your trophies the minute you unlock them? Do people lurk your trophy page and say... did u c that phat unlock yo. (I imagine that's how people who lurk trophy feeds would talk).

Haha trophies are like social media. So they are stupid and people get far too worked up over them. Hum...you could be onto something here.

External HDD support for backing up games and background trophy sync were among the other rumored features in the beta, right? Do we think Sony is going to announce another slew of features closer to the update? If I remember correctly they have done that in the past, maybe even with 2.0.

Pretty sure the External HDD rumor was backed up with a screen shot and the trophy thing was something the beta tester just noticed was happening.

I do like to see them immediately.
I really like how on XB1 the friends list shows your friends latest achievements in an "Activity Feed".

You can laugh at Social Media all you want, but it's sad that a 9 person start up like Instragram has had better network and social aspects from the start, than Sony can come up with since PSN was started.

Hold on...

External HDD to back up games too?

OMG, if that feature is in 2.5 as well, I'll gladly take the stability updates for the rest of the PS4's life cycle, I don't care about anything else except merging accounts.

I highly doubt they'll allow for the merging of accounts. They'll probably ask why you had multiple accounts in the first place.

sure Sony.

Of course this list is not tempered with ...

You would be surprised how little many people care about DLNA, especially since:

1) Many people have another device that will do DLNA
2) A good amount of people have switched over to a superior system like PLEX
