- Nintendont - | Yes, you CAN play GameCube games on your Wii U!

Well, the wii main menu is widescreen, but the home brew channel (and Nintendon't) is 4:3.

i'm not talking about that.

within Nintendon't's options, there's an option called "Wii U Widescreen". that one makes Nintendon't switch to 16:9 when it loads a game. that option is there because of the bug that makes HBC 4:3 on Wii U.
combining that with Force Widescreen is how you get full 16:9 GC games on Wii U. (on a normal Wii, you only need to force widescreen)

There's all sorts of work arounds for that but I can't get them to work.

I use this. You load HBC, use the linked application to reload HBC in 16:9 and then the widescreen features should work. I just hit the "format" button on my TV's remote to manually change it when I'm in a hurry though...

Yup, I checked, that is on.

I'll try a re-install, maybe I screwed something up.

Thanks, I'll give this a go too.

What an amazing mod! Yesterday I spent the afternoon loading usb loader dx and I found it to be lots of fun creating a digital library of my GCN games. Having the option to load straight from the vWii channels is the cherry on top. Now I've got to get my hands on a gc controller adapter and wavebird and I'll be all set.

If you don't care about the gamepad play I'd personally suggest just hacking your wii if you have one but aren't using it (like the other 100 million owners). It's even easier, easier to replace (though the homebrew is all fairly safe), and you're not going anything with it anyway if you have a wii u.

The whole point to doing this is that people don't wanna use their older systems. I moved in with my fiancée and can't have 8 different systems hooked up (at least until we buy a house and I have my man cave!). So it's much more convenient to get this working on a system already out in my living room.

And the wiiu has a hdmi output.

oh btw, some games won't display in Widescreen even if you force it. the Metroid Prime games are an example.

Does anyone know why sometimes it might load Melee and other times it freezes on the "progessive scan" question.

It's not registering my gamecube controller anymore or it's freezing, I can't tell.

So after Tons of tinkering, and free time, I GOT IT TO WORK FINALLY.

Nice, it actually didn't take me more than a couple of hours while I was doing other stuff, but after it worked perfectly at my friend's place it's now being super wonky at my place.

I was planning on practicing some stuff in the hack pack tonight.

I got stationed in Korea and my Wii U and 3DS were the only Nintendo systems I took (gave my Wii to my son).

I dumped all my GC games before I left and have them all on an SD card so that I will still have access to them.

Yes. Configurable USB loader, or USB loader GX. Install one of those. Doing it another way is making hard work for yourself.

For USB loader GX the process involves switching on one menu option, choosing to download the cheats with another, and finally selecting which cheats to use in the game you are about to play. Literally couldn't be easier.

So I got it loaded with USB Loader GX and can download cheats and whatnot but its saying something about kenobiwii file I need in my 'seek' folder whenever I try to play with them

I'm trying to use cheat codes on Nintendont (With Paper Mario: TTYD, specifically), but every time I attempt to boot the game, the console hard-locks on a black screen. I have kenobiwii in the /sneek/ folder and I made sure the game folder (and actual GCT file) is named with the game ID (G8ME01). Only thing I can think might be doing it would be the code format.

Will this work with the new Mayflash GCN controller adapter?

Does the Mayflash one support rumble? (ie, does it have the two USB connectors the official one has)

Yes but I can only get it to work on Smash 4

So Nintendont has unlocked the craving for me to mod the hell out of my vWii on the Wii U.

Now that I can play GC games easily, whats the best loader for ISOs from an USB external (for Wii games, specifically)?

As for other emulation, is it easier just to find the WAD files for certain titles?

Found out about this yesterday. How long am I supposed to wait for the settings menu to show up? Am I missing a file or something?

Edit: It's working now, just wish I could find a way to turn off the exit options other than the home button. Might as well mark CvS2 as unplayable because of this. So much for using my Wii stick.

I have a wierd issue using the GameCube adapter with my Wavebird, the analog stick behaves very oddly, sometimes it inputs more than once, sometimes doesn't respond at all, once even went in the wrong direction. Regular controller seems to work (but doesn't reach to my couch!), is this a known issue with Wavebirds or has mine bitten the dust?

Been using this with Melee 20xx hack and a gcn controller adapter for the past couple weeks and it works great! Thanks GAF!

USB loader gx or CFG, personally I prefer gx as it's easy to mess around with and has a better UI.

For emulation, it's always easier and better to just load emulators with HBC, emulators gives you more options, doesn't require installation, and much more convenient to use.

See, this is what I figured, but I've been having a lot of trouble finding which emulators work best for the HBC on Wii U. I downloaded Wii64 straight from the Homebrew Browser and could never get it to function.

Is there a good list of which emulators work best, I suppose?

Does anyone know if this Mayflash adapter that turns the WiiU controller into a bluetooth device to work as a ps3 controller would allow you to play gamecube games directly from the gamepad?

I'm not sure what you mean by "work as a PS3 controller," but that adapter doesn't do anything with the gamepad. It's just for using the Pro controller on the PC.

So I've finally transitioned from devolution to Nintendont but can't seem to get my emulated memory card to run. Games just won't see it.

Anyone do a similar transition or have any tips?

Hi all... just got this set up yesterday. Anytime I try and use the Wii U Pro Controller it does not work at all? The 4 lights all come on and same happens to Wii remote. Game runs fine but nothing registers and it won't even let you press to home button to quit out. I then have to switch the Wii U off at the mains.

Any idea where I am going wrong?

just a heads up

Wii U kernel exploit exists, release is imminent apparently. Could easily open up stuff like Nintendont to running in Wii U mode, via the gamepad.

Oh shit. Do you think that it could be used to play Wii games on the gamepad as well? I would kill for "portable" GameCube/Wii support.

Maybe you need to sync it separately on the Wii Menu? Just guessing here.

Is this like what lead to the WII being open so much?

Its kernel access, so it would allow full access and backups. So potentially, yes.

However, the Wii OS was a complete and utter clusterfuck that Nintendo basically gave up trying to patch. Wii U OS is different and sliiiightly more competent.

Oooh exciting! Hopefully it's a little easier and more accessible than 3DS Homebrew.

From what I read at GBAtemp, it sounds like a browser exploit, and it works on the current firmware. I've taken their advice and blocked the Nintendo servers on my Wii U via opendns for the time being though...can still play online safely, which is nice.

The possibility of Retroarch and native GameCube games on the gamepad...awwww yeeeaaahh

If so, it will be based on the eShop "VC" thing. Running Wii stuff in Wii U mode is basically impossible, because Nintendo reused parts of Wii in Wii U in a very interesting way - if I understand correctly, they have put kernel code in what used to be the framebuffer?
