The company behind EVE Online, Dust 514, EVE Valkyrie and Project Legion hold their own fan conference every year in Iceland. It's mostly fan-related stuff like discussions on the nitty-gritty of the underlying stats but they also have some keynotes that show upcoming projects.

There's also a good chance of a new CG trailer for the MMO which are always pretty.

Possible events of note:

Thursday

12:00 Opening Keynote: Welcome to Fanfest and the Future of VR
CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson welcomes you to Fanfest and then is joined by others in discussing the future of virtual reality at CCP. Includes an updated look at and information about EVE: Valkyrie and more!

13:00 DUST 514: Collected Learnings: Join the DUST 514 team for an in-depth discussion about community collaboration in development, data-driven balancing, and an overview of the current state of DUST 514; how we got here and where we are going.

14:00 EVE IP Development: Learn about what's happening in books, comics, ship models and other media for EVE. How do you think we should be expanding the EVE Universe so far? How could we improve?

15:00 Meet the Valkyries: The team representing EVE:Valkyrie at Fanfest introduces itself and goes into further detail on where the game is, where it's headed and what we´ll cover in the roundtables. The format of the Valkyrie tournament will also be explained and questions from the audience will be answered.

Friday

11:00 The Art of Valkyrie: Meet with the artists of Valkyrie and discuss the design of the EVE universe through the eyes of a fighter pilot.

14:00 Valkyrie Design and Audio: An open forum to chat with the Valkyrie design and audio teams, on topics from ship building to world creation. If that sounds like music to your ears, come on down for a discussion about all things Valkyrie!

Saturday

13:00 Valkyrie VR: What are the challenges of making EVE: Valkyrie a virtual reality game? Come have an open discussion with the developers working on the code, graphics, audio and user experience.

Friday and Saturday events are probably just Q&A. Holding out for Project Legion news also may be a longshot as a month or so ago the devs said this:

Hey guys,
We are not planning to make any announcements about or show anything new for DUST 514 or Project Legion at Fanfest,

but on the other hand it's been a whole year since they showed anything and what they did show threw the existing Dust 514 fanbase into uproar over being ditched.

Batteries the CRISIS!
Thanks for the notification. It'll be nice to get some updates on how Valkyrie is doing. More spacesims is better than fewer spacesims.

In case anyone was wondering, the times in the OP are four hours ahead of the U.S. Eastern time zone. So the opening keynote will be 8 a.m. EDT tomorrow, for example.

Valkyrie is technically Oculus-exclusive on the PC side of things. If Oculus will enforce that (as in SteamVR) is another matter.

Free hugs for anyone kind enough to jot down important bits for those gaffers that can't watch the stream for whatever reason.

(* Free hugs possibly not available in your area. )

Semi-blog of keynote:

-Second biggest fanfest ever, only behind 10th anniversary in 2013.

-EVE on its 12th year.

-All the big stuff announced today.

...

-Nothing new to report of Project Legion - focus remains on Dust (...lol)

-"No Manifest Destiny" (about talking too much about the vision without delivering - trying to focus on less talk, more action - the new release cadence for EVE of 6 week patches is a good example)

-"Make decisions and move on" - they have made the decision to delve deeper and become more committed to VR (projected to grow...), after amazing feedback on EVE Valkyrie

-Atlanta team has been working on full body VR experiences - demo at fanfest (is like a fantasy magic thing - make a fireball with your hands) - not sure exactly where it's heading, needs feedback (team is 7 people)

-Shanghai team working on "Project Nemesis" VR experiment, demo is a turret shooter as on an EVE ship

...

EVE Valkyrie

-Goal is to be "The best competitive multiplayer in VR"

-Story to be told in a series of Dark Horse comics coming out later this year (
Main character is a Gallente pilot KIA, wakes up in Guristas cloning facility works for them but doesn't like what they're up to, breaks away to form the Valkyrie
)

-Pic of main character (blonde lady, looks pretty awesome - pics to be on website later)

-Video of an early (first?) mission, actual gameplay footage - Gallente Escort Mission, abridged version for keynote purposes. *Looks really fucking cool, like being in a Battlestar Galactica Viper fighter*

-LOL is she shooting Geckos? Anyway yeah, vid is sick dat outro, HNNGG, getting an encore play (should be on YouTube later)

-Every map you play in the new player experience/story becomes a map in the multiplayer portion (so escort mission becomes necropolis ship graveyard map)

-New Game Mode - Attrition Deathmatch (reach a threshold of damage to enemy and you win) with Control Points that affect weight of each kill, with some Drone Capture mechanics that somehow play out as well

-Tech tree of ship progression, some (lite?) RPG elements? Different ships have different abilities (at least secondaries/specials), like different classes in a shooter or moba

-Exclusive pre-Alpha (very limited) signup http://evevalkyrie.com/prealpha Seems to need an existing EVE or Dust account. You need a VR headset.

-Tournament on Saturday with 5 winners being awarded a DK2 and access to the alpha, will be streamed on Twitch (First VR tournament ever streamed?)

....

-And that's pretty much it for now, EVE Keynote later today which should have some big announcements. Panels continue on stream, but I won't blog those.

They just said all announcements will be today, but in terms of media content as someone mentioned above they'll be streaming Valkyrie games on Saturday.

That was Amazing! What an upgrade a year of development does.

The definitive VR title announced so far.

The Eve Valkyrie footage looked great. I'm hopeful we will get a release date soon but it's probably an Oculus Rift launch title.

edit: Beaten.

That glorious 60fps footage.

For a company whose main game is extremely light on cinematic stuff, CCP really does have a penchant for it. Their trailers (and this Eve Valkyrie mission video) really showcases that.

Aawww, ok im still in but i was kinda hoping for a single player campaign in the EVE universe. Competitive, as in arena based space combat, imo will get old fast with Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous around.

Hopefully it's not a waste of time like Dust 514, I have no idea what they were thinking when they made that mess.

Not for me. If they do the upgrades right and have a ranking system of some sort I may prefer it over RPG/exploration gameplay, at least in multiplayer. It looks to be faster paced than the other two. The Call of Duty to your Arma, if you will.

Omg that trailer is glorious! Having played this at e3 and pax I can tell you that this game is the Truth! At this point my hype for this game may be nearing my days waiting for the SNES to launch.

I love the way the "This is EVE" trailer was put together.

I''m assuming their will be a Single player campaign to get you used to VR before going competitive.

Assuming this game comes to Morpheus (think it has already been announced) it will be all that is needed to sell me on the system.

Panel now confirms Valkyrie as a launch title on Rift and Morpheus. Exclusive on PC to Rift, but other VR platforms not ruled out, so maybe just a limited exclusivity.

I really need to brush up on the more recent EVE story. I haven't been playing / paying attention for a while now, and that shit looks mighty interesting. Sleeper drone invasion?! Fuck yes.

Their trailers are meticulously produced, and for sure they do an awesome job at showcasing the universe in them. The real downer for a lot of people (especially we bitter vets who have been playing since day 1) is that we know the impressiveness of the trailers rarely translate to the game.

Then again, the drama players make for others is usually more interesting. ;)

The definitive VR experience if I ever saw one. It makes those VR promo/intro videos Samsung and HTC did look tame. The style is absolutely ace.
