Reading about it isn't the same as experiencing it. Why bother with watching anime when I can read the plot summery on Wikipedia!

Only if it's worth experiencing. If you just want to find out "why people speak of it" Wikipedia suffices. But I'm biased against School Days because of all the years of awful School Days reactions in these threads. I cringe just thinking about them, especially because very few came off as sincere.

It was a Perrine centric story. That alone should serve as sufficient commentary for even if she's not as annoying as she was in the first season, she's still the worst. On a brighter note, Sakamoto getting drunk and the Eila&Sanya gag was some of funniest stuff yet.
9 episodes in and there still wasn't really any development on the new Neuroi that appeared at the beginning. I get what kind of show you're SW but please, finish what you started.

I think this is a problem of expectations more than anything. The neuroi serve as framing for the rest of the show but are never really important as more than generic evil entities to help the rest of the series along, which is fine with the exception to when the series decides to go back to them to appease the sentiment you brought up.

Well, I guess the odds were favored that the final match would be a good one, not great but still better then the bullshit piled on these past few episodes. Also, yea, they are pretty much confirming that there is going to be a season 3.

FWIW at least they tone down the bullshit and have a full episode dedicated to battle. It was pretty fun, reminiscent of the Nils Lab arc which is the only good thing to come out of this disappointing season.

And then there's just hilarious shit like
Shia & Fumina's Newtype moment.

It surely symbolises that perceived continuation of a certain style norms how, when Mr. Yonebayashi himself recently mentioned the possible next step outside the Studio Ghibli homogeneous umbrella, he directly talked about a film to be made "just for the animation, the movement of it" and "action-animation oriented" but actually using Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea as an example, reference and objective for this near future project! This certainly doesn't help in any way on seeing a possible distancing from the studio, but if he feels more comfortable this way and wants to expand later on his own manner from this acquired style... so be it. :)

The thing is Mr. Yonebayashi was better assimilated into the "inflexible" and "disrespectful to uniqueness" (in words of other outcast like Masashi Andō) structure of Studio Ghibli than Mr. Hosoda ever was, so 'spreading the wings' on his own while abandoning that fixed environment and particular way of operating must be difficult at first.

Sure the big alien threat may not be at the center of attention most of the time but they still see fit to throw in a Neuroi of the week during pretty much every episode. I don't think it would hurt to tie those, so far completely random, enemy appearances to the plot developments that they introduced earlier. This is something that even S1 did to a degree IIRC, with Sanya (and others too I think) discovering the weird behaviour of the enemy.

Probably my favourite episode in the whole of Patlabor along with Episode 12, which you also touched on previously. Such an amazing show. Now that you mention it, it did remind me a bit of Episode 10 from The Big O, Winter Night Phantom which is also an amazing episode and probably my favourite episode in the whole show and one of my favourite episodes in general. Dastun was a cool character :)

I never got to reply to you regarding your review, but I enjoyed viewing your experience with the show. It’s obvious that it didn't blow you away, but I'm glad that you appreciated the appeal of it and I'm hope that you don't regret giving it a chance. I loved it, and it resonated with me, and I think that has a lot to do with how I watch shows, as I not only watch a single show at a time, but only watch them at night in the dark usually going through multiple episodes (4 to 6 a day on average) at a time, and as such I can see how a show like Boogiepop would benefit from that, as to keep the momentum going. I loved the aesthetics, soundtrack and the episodic nature to it all, which I actually prefer overall to other shows. Having said that, I see where your complaints come from, and agree with them overall. I guess everybody has different tolerances, and I do consider myself to often scrutinize shows but also tend to prioritize the ‘feelings’ I get from the show over the general potholes and such, not that I don't mind them! In any case hopefully my recommendation hasn't scared you off :)

S1 is more about gubment conspiracies and 'maybe the neuroi are just misunderstood' S2 is more about Sakamoto being an old fart.

It's one of these dumb entertaining shows with some comedy, some ridicilous plot, some fanservice and lots of different girls.

Started watching because of Kurumi, but ended up liking Tohka the most. (Sorry Cajun and Battleship :p) Mostly because Kurumi doesn't show up before the second half og the series and then just... dissapears again before the final 2 episodes.

Origami is ok, but I'm not liking Yoshino because of that annoying rabbit. And there's that sister too... Oh, and that other sister, but at least she's not a major character in the show.

Well... 3/5 characters I like enough, so 3/5 for this one:

Youre distaste in Kurumi wounds me greatly but yeah DAL is pretty much a very fine waifu generator and nothing more.

While thats true, you can kind of tell the new posters who might be open to something like SChool Days. especially when ones foray into anime started with SWORD ART ONLINE.

The Irregular at Magic High School Episodes 9-13

I'm pretty sure they just explained more of the relationship between "brother and "sister" however, it still doesn't make sense just yet. This most recent arc about the competition is kind of boring compared to the action sequences earlier. They are spending too much time on it, IMO, but again, it just reaffirms that Tatsuya is a bada$$ as was said yesterday. I guess I'll watch the last couple episodes taking place at the competition shortly.

Episode was good. Just really annoyed that last episode Jun came and did a random attack and was like "yeah, remember that move....." and left. Behold, someone actually used it against Sekai...

That's because they aren't normal brother and sisters.
They are related ( they really are brother and sister ) but that familly got a shit-ton of secrets it's unreal. We are also missing a fair bit of tatsuya POV , so it's not clear yet ..but you should have more info and a clearer picture the more you watch. After you've finished or before that , if you're still confused , i can tell you about the things that you've missed or that bother you because i'm pretty sure i've got an answer for that.

Not to worry, it didn't. :p I usually never fare very well with the serious, episodic shows and I knew, going in, that I would get a lot of that in BG. But I still ended up enjoying it quite a bit, I hope my review doesn't give off the wrong impression. Though what I wrote earlier stands and the lack of resolution/ explanation to certain plot lines does hurt it a lot in my eyes.

I was hoping for this, actually. There's a lot of girls who could do with more screentime. And maybe they could introduce Amatsukaze so Shimakaze has someone to play off for an episode.

I haven't seen the final episode yet, but both of my Wednesday shows getting more seasons is pleasant news.

A change of pace, but I wonder if Sentai will release the third 'Patlabor' film on Blu-ray. I actually really liked it when I watched it way back when. Best film ever made? No. Is it even really a Patlabor film? Not really. I recall that its based on a chapter from the Manga, so technically its canon but it's pretty much a horror in the Patlabor world, and I really liked it. Its a lot more artsy and slow, but it worked really well with the tone it was going for.
