Mortal Kombat X Day 1 Patch [probably DOESN'T decrease token rate]

You would think MKX would be the biggest and greatest MK. Seems like they rushed it out for the gen cycle.

Here is what I think now. The game has more modifiers than it shows. You can tell that because I just did a 4 hit combo and got 15 koins! and then in another battle against someone else got 4.

So the patch comes out and it does change some modifiers, for reasons I can't tell. And that resulted in very odd koin payouts for anyone accustomed to the original payouts? Strangely I first heard about this right before a streamer got kicked of Twitch when he was bitching.
But oddly even in my current patched game I am getting weirdness from time to time.

Or the entire thing is a bug.

Well, they did say that they were addressing some "balance" issues. So how was your payout, on average, overall? A definite and severe downgrade, or something else?

Microtranactions and preorder bullshit don't make the game rushed.

Yeah. If the actual fighting mechanics, character balance and move diversity was screwed up. That would would be a good reason for a "rushed" comment.

The comment saying microtractions are result of the game being rushed doesn't even make sense in any context, especially so in regards to the actual "fighting game" aspects of MKX.

I have the game patched, but have only done tower fights. Want me to do a story fight right quick?
Would of had it earlier but just got home from work.

Ok my pre-patch data says in Story mode it is 500 koin per match, 1500 per boss, and 2500 per final boss.
Will test repeats...

Don't forget to delete your save prior to testing. (back it up and copy it over afterwards so you don't permanently lose progress)

In case there is diminishing returns on koins for repeated matches.

damn sounds like I will need to remove the patch that autodownloaded on my ps4. I hate almost all these games with microtransactions & DLCs are filled to the brim with grinding. I'm getting real sick of this. This is supposed to be a fighting game where your skill determines victory. This not an rpg. on the other hand, I do like grinding...

Been playing it today, all post-patch, and I've been getting 500ish koins on a regular fight in story mode and the last fight in a chapter is 1500+ koins IF I win the first time. If I lose the fight and continue the amount is drastically smaller for that particular match. I believe there may be a small bonus for streaks. My best win streak was eight fights and I think it was going up a little bit with each one.

So, not sure if the amount being smaller when you continue is what was affected but I'm getting the "pre-patch" payout. Are we sure this isn't someone going nuts thinking the amount was changed by the patch and instead they're simply losing more often and noticing now that they're not getting as many koins? I noticed on a match that I had to continue I get closer to around 100 koins for comparison.

Pre-patch has diminishing returns as well. 75 koins for a repeated battle. Now to back-up the save...

The tactic of having paid for unlocks in a full price game is disgusting anyway, this is just laughable. Slippery slope indeed.

This sounds like diminishing returns.

Doing the same thing over and over will net smaller rewards, It seems.

This isn't anything unusual.

Of course I'll wait and see what other people say as well.

Jim Sterling has been warning people against Warner for a while now, guess its becoming more obvious now

When you Google that you find "Copyright claims". If you're not on YouTube and you want the game then it doesn't add up in that regard. I'm not hurting because I don't put YouTube vids up or do I go into the specifics. I guess I need to be a little more enlightened on the subject. I do buy WB's games. I notice a couple mobile games that do what mobile games do. Everything is free unless you want to go all out in a single day.

It's not a 100% P2P game, but what else can you do? I'm not hurting by the microtransactions. I want AK, so they have a dedicated customer right here. I don't want to wait 5 to 6 years when the company happens to "learn their lesson" when the game I want is being the topic of discussion. What year will MKXI come out? No one really knows. Why wait?

I can see every single game company on the planet doing this. It's not that they lost their way, but its because they need an income.

It's like how moves in fighting games get nerfed. It's somehow overpowering the player and giving them an advantage they use.

Do I think the Pros will unlock everything? Not all of them. A lot of them want to be good at it and win a tournament. I think a lot of the pros get online and that's their thing. They don't care about the plot. If they do, they'll stream it for their fans. They only care that its a competitive fighter.

If you lose a match you get zero koins. Then when you retry and win you get less than you would have if you won it without continuing. I wouldn't describe that as diminishing returns as I'm not winning a second time on a match. It's more just a bonus for beating a story fight without having to continue. It doesn't break it down but that's obviously how the payout works.

OK. 2 things.

1. I suck with Johnny Cage.
2. I got 505 Koins for the fight (Minus the other small bonuses)
*Edit... I got another 505 Koins for beating Sub Zero right after.

There's also your player card, you can get combinations that boost your earned coins. I get an additional 300 per won match.

Seriously people, it's not that bad.

Didn't get my copy yet, will get in the mail like Thursday...

Count on me to not be online while I do the story for the first time, I want them koins. :p

Same thing, the reward actually went up 5 koins post patch.
Tower reward is also 105 now.

My guess is the patch fixed the issue where 2500 end boss glitch worked.
Big oops for reaching a conclusion too soon.

Now all we need is some kind of guide explaining all the hidden modifiers and the world will be right again. Well as right as Press Y to Goro allows

The micro-transactions aren't a big deal, but I already spoke my piece in the other thread. Along with the "3 hour game" remark, I doubt he appreciated you reducing the game down to that.

If this ruckus about the patch turns out to be misinformation, then it's also something that I would be upset at people condemning me.

I mean, you're implicating that it's a cashgrab in front of the creator's face. It's a low accusation, and blocking people that are just out there to spew comments like this isn't out of order. Besides, he un-blocked you. That speaks to his character, and you can't deny he loves this franchise and his fans.

With all do respect though. Those were my feeling and opinions on the game. I was planning on avoiding it completely, until it became a bargain bin game. However, thanks to target I got it for 45 along with their deal. I started the story at 11:45 am pst. I finished the story mode at 2:20 pm right before work. Difficulty was on normal. Did I enjoy the story? yes I did. Did I like the length? not at the least bit. I wanted it as long as MK9 and injustice. Do I feel like it's a cash grab? To an extent yes I do with my own experiences and what others are saying. Those are my opinions though. Could my opinion be wrong? Absolutely, however it is my opinion.

I just was voicing my opinion on the matter on Twitter. Will I replay the story again? Absolutely on a harder difficulty.

I love the fact he loves his fans and actually loves the game too, but I'm just feeling that this game has the story mode tack on towards the end of development while the soul focus is on the multiplayer and extra content.

Well the Reddit post is right about one thing, the patch did make the AI more aggressive. Sub-Zero managed a win against me.

It's a fighting game, therefore, it inherently is multiplayer-focused. No other fighting game I've played dedicates this much effort into the single-player aspects. They decided to build a more competent fighter overall, and either didn't have as much time/resources to dedicate to the single-player, or decided it met their expectations. Probably both. Whatever their reasoning, when you consider the game as a whole, it is by no means a "3 hour game".

You should also note that if you feel wronged somehow, you shouldn't get antagonistic towards someone you want answers from. They likely won't respond well. Boon listens to his fans, and would probably reply if you didn't come at him so harshly.

Not surprised in the slightest. If people are gonna buy this crap then of course they are going to try and get away with it. Imo anyone who has bought characters like Goro and Predator are basically to blame for this as you're telling them "Yea it's ok, charge me for anything....i'll lap it up!"

Lol at Anrgy Joe comments, he sucked up to the devs hard so he could get a copy of the game or whatever, he might as well be getting a cut from the profits the way he has been talking this game up. What a hypocrite. Btw I normally like Angry Joe but it's clear his hype goggles are getting in the way of these issues here.

Gaming "news" articles pooped out based on one-off reddit posts from a friend of a friend turn out to be highly inaccurate.

Can't wait to read about this on Kotaku next week.

Understood. I apologize once again to everyone.

I'm just looking for answers myself so I'll be open about it. I'll also go delete my tweet about it.

Turned out there were two threads about this, was looking for an earlier reply of mine and no luck. :p

Anyway, was going to add in there that the previous gane was also like this (or at least I remember that on 360, PS3 and Vita). You earn less currency when you replay story mode. The patch seems fixed a glitch that allowed players to earn 2,500 every time they beat the last fight.

Keeping in mind that you can skip fights too, so doing that won't earn you anything. So it was done I guess so that people didn't grinded around that (you can also skip cutscenes).

Also keeping in mind that the story mode in this one, is the result of complaints over the previous ones.

2011: Unskippable cutscenes, some felt it was too long at nearly 10 hours, 1 vs.2 fights, cheap difficulty (and cheaper final boss).

2015: Skippable cutscenes, faster paced story nearly 4 hours long, 1 vs. 1 fights only, balanced difficulty, skippable fights too if you find them too difficult.

Gotta love how people immediately jump to conclusions, assume the worst and start blasting Netherrealm before any sort of verification.

Is this is what the casual gaming revolution and micro-transactions have done to us?

Yes. We've grown accustomed to expecting to be nickel and dimed to death.

It is also to note that the koins mentioned are just for winning the fight the first time around with no retries. You get less koins winning with a retry.

I'd say all bets are off when games like Unity and those iPhone games that nickle and dime you are still pretty popular.

Good so it was all a big misunderstanding then. Thank goodness. I dont mind a little grinding but that big of a change was sounding outright consumer-hostile

There's a giant ad for DLC right front and center in the menu. This was not some huge jump. Thankfully it seems to be false.
