Although it's expensive it's worth getting the pro controller it's a world apart from the small tattacons. I hate how you have to belt the living jesus out of the small ones to get the hits to consistently register it used to wreck my wrists, least on the pro controller the bachi are pretty heavy so you can play at normal pressure without having to hit harder.

I'm not picking up the pro until I move back to Japan. Too much to import. I imagine that my girlfriend won't be too into me dropping that much cash and having a big drum in our apartment, but she'll forgive me when she plays it too. haha

On the other hand, if I live close to a gamecenter again, I likely won't buy the pro... 'cause I can get like 300 plays at the arcade for the same price.

What are the bachi that come with the pro made of?

The bachi are made of plastic and have rubber sleeves over them making them really weighty means they dont slip when hitting the edge of the drum, i love using them..

I hope I can buy it. I just hate moving so much, and that's just one more big thing to move around. That, guitars, games, consoles.... I really hate moving so much haha.

Listening to some of the songs I didn't know/refreshing on what some songs sound like for the Vita Taiko. Checking the anime stuff, since I'm least familiar with it.
Anime: Crossing Fields and Only My Railgun will be fun.
Game: I just listened to Daddy Mulk for the first time. Awesome. Ys music is awesome. God Eater song is cheesy but okay. Freedom Wars song is all right.

J-pop: Holy shit. Gesu no Kiwami Otome. is in it!

I didn't properly look over the song list until now. I take back what I said about the J-pop section. Oh gooood! Finally, a band I really like is in Taiko! Listen! I would've preferred 猟奇的なキスを私にして or キラーボール, but I'm still very happy with this.
I wish they chose something like Road of Resistance by Babymetal, instead of Gimme Choco. I always thought Gimme Choco was one of their more annoying songs. Enough with the damn Sekai no Owari. At least it's one of their better songs, but I got sick of them as of last spring when I played a song of theirs with one of my bands in Tokyo. The autotune is so awful...

Vocaloid: Why no Eternal Bond? ;__;
Overall, though, I'm really excited for this song list to grow. Seems solid so far.

I'm more suprised that gimme choco is in the game as i never in a million years expected to ever hear a babymetal song in a rhythm game.

Glad to hear you're still happy with it and it's working out for you. My major hangup with it is that if I'm spending so much cash on a peripheral, I'll want it to work well, last a real long time, be compatible with future games, and be the best thing on the market. So my primary fears are that the next Nintendo console, or wherever future Taiko console games are, won't support it and I'm stuck playing past games on it, or that Hori releases an improved version of it in the near future.

Yeah, I'm surprised there's 2 Sekai no Owari songs out of the box. We've had AKB, Kyary, Ikimonogakari, and others doubling up in past games, but that's pretty much always been via DLC.

Yeah, that's a concern of mine, as well. If it jumps over to ps4, then I'd feel like an idiot.

Does it mean anything that this next one is for vita, or do you still expect another 3ds one soon?

Nah, past precedent leads us to believe this would've been a gap year for 3DS games anyways, with a new one releasing next year. Probably just figuring expanding the market is more profitable than burning the 3DS market out.

I'm definitely expecting a big 15th anniversary Wii U game this winter, though. (edit: waiiit a sec, Taiko came out in 2001 and the 10th anniversary game came out in 2011... so why are they talking about 15th anniversary stuff this year? Guess they're preparing real early, lol)

Ohhh, I hope the Vita one has Touhou songs! There have Touhou themes added recently and I think some Touhou game is coming soon (I dunno, I don't care about the games. I just like the music).

It's possible! In the Taiko livestream this Friday they're gonna be talking about some Touhou collaboration stuff and I'm hoping it involves the Touhou songs coming to home consoles.

Anyways, I'm playing Tokumori, and jeez I'm so thankful they saw that Wii U Version's unlock system was awful and changed it up. I've played 23 hours of the game on Oni level and I only have 1/5 of the required drum hits to reach the final Ura unlock, it's ridiculous. Meanwhile, in about 2 hours of playing Tokumori, I've nearly unlocked all the songs and will be able to start unlocking Uras soon. Waaay better.

Oh and Introdon is fun but I'm not sure there's anyone else within dozens of miles who would be able to play that with me so I'm stuck with the CPU, lol.

http://www.famitsu.com/news/201504/13076580.html

It looks like there was a FFXIV collaboration with the Titan theme song. I WANT THAT SHIRT/FAN.

Oh, yeah, this is like the second or third time they've done this FF14 promo song thing. Not sure why it still hasn't been permanently added to any of the games, I think it'd be the first Final Fantasy track in a Taiko game.

In other news, looks like V Version is getting training mode, before it even returns to the console games:

I might be remembering wrong, but I don't think you had the ability to change the speed of the song before, so that's a really helpful addition. Now just put it into the Wii U and 3DS games and keep them there dammit.

Oh, and Aizo, I've been playing Tokumori and I'm surprised by how many 8+ star Oni tracks there are in this game, and tricky ones at that. I think this honestly might be the toughest overall tracklist I've seen in a Taiko game. So that could partially explain why it's been so intimidating, lol.

Aizo

Banned
That makes me feel a bit better haha.
I really feel like jumping between hard and oni is so crazy, because there is a severe lack of low star oni songs. Makes it really tough to jump in without a steady difficulty curve.

Yeah, definitely. Hopefully 3DS2's tracklist is working out better for you in that regard. I just finished playing through all of Tokumori's, and man, I think that was the largest number of tracks I couldn't pass in a Taiko game I've ever had, lol. Hurtling Boys, DEBSTEP, Joubutsu2000, Donkama2000, and fucking goddamn Ura Mori no Kumasan wrecked me, lol. I think I can clear Hurtling Boys given a couple more tries, but man, the rest... Especially the goddamn bear song that's just flat-out physically painful to play, lol. But on the plus side...

aw yeah, Introdon CHAMP

Anyways, 2 out of 3 of the Tokumori DLC songs for this month have been announced, and... I guess they'll announce the 3rd one at the livestream this Friday? (EDIT: Evidently this DLC info has been retracted. Weird. Guess we'll get the real info soon?)

So I've played over 20 hours of the two 3DS taiko games according to the 3DS playlog.. but I still can't beat a single song on Oni mode. (´・_・`)
Have cleared almost all the songs on hard though.

Ah well, excited for the Vita version. My 3DS just dies way too quick.. Liking the tracklist on it more than the 3DS ones too already.

So, the main news from the livestream that'll be relevant to the interests of console players are the 3DS2 May DLC, and news that there will be weekly updates about V Version via the game's official site and Twitter. No word on what the deal is with the Tokumori DLC they posted and retracted, but I'm sure that'll come soon.

Other than that, pretty much everything involving the arcade version was info about collaborations or events. Murasaki version is getting an update with 2 new songs soon (only one of which was announced), and as part of the Taiko x Idolmaster campaign, it'll be getting a returning or brand new Idolmaster song every week. Plus a bunch of new Taiko and Touhou customization items are coming.

Have you tried a bunch of J-Pop or Anime songs? I think those genres tend to be the best for entry-level Oni.

I really hope Touhou stuff is brought to the vita version...
How much is the Vita one going to be digitally? I will probably want it digitally, because it's so damn convenient for that kind of game.

Is the Vita one gonna have minigames? I've never played them but I would like to know what I was missing out on :p The only ones I've played were the DS ones like years ago haha but I remember it being pretty fun. The osu one that I tried recently isn't bad either but I want the real game again so definitely gonna be my first Vita import since I assume you generally don't need much Jap knowledge to play~

Yeah, I hope so too but I'm not counting on it :/

Considering Touhou's future presence on Vita and the fact that it'd fit right in with the demographic V Version seems to be aiming for, it'd make a lot of sense, so I dunno what's been keeping them from bringing it to console versions. I guess we can hope it'll end up being one of the pieces of news about the game.

Not sure about the digital price because there hasn't been any word about it but it should be in the 5600 to 6000 range (assuming that, unlike PSP DX, they actually put it up on PSN, but considering both 3DS and Wii U games have been released digitally it seems like whatever was preventing it before should've been figured out).

The last portable game to have a proper minigame mode was Portable 2 in 2006, so I doubt it. Most of their efforts on the portable games are focused on the story modes instead. I've always considered the minigame modes sorta take it or leave it anyways, but some of them were pretty fun.

And yup, it should make a pretty easy import without much language knowledge. It's possible the story mode will require some comprehension but I'm sure there will be people around to help if that ends up being the case.

Awesome, between this and P4DAN, I'm gonna be in Rhythm Heaven for a while :D

I just hope the tracklist is more suited to my taste. I've bought both the Hatsune Miku games before and while I did finish all songs on easy, normal, hard and even some extreme songs by some miracle, by the end the vocaloid was really grating to my ears since I'm not a fan of the genre at all, so I would just play on mute while listening to other songs, didn't seem affect my scoring though xD DJ Max was much better in that regard and while the touch-based gameplay is fun too. I always felt somewhat restricted cuz of the Vita smallish screen so button-based rhythm games are the way to go imo.

I don't even watch anime or have even played most the Jap games listed but I assume anything is better then vocaloid haha :p

Well, I suppose it depends on what kind of music you like. I'm really into the Japanese music industry, so there is always something in them for me. The newest Taiko will have ゲスの極み乙女。(Gesu no Kiwami Otome), which is one of my favorite Japanese rock bands. I'm excited! As if they weren't popular enough already. Their shows were always sold out when I tried to see them.

Kinda worried that they haven't really shown any other control scheme for the Vita game. (or have they?) My interest in the game would plummet if you could only use the buttons..

Yep, finally got a couple of songs beat on Oni from the J-pop section.
Also got my first full combo, (Black Rose Apostle on Hard) feels great.
Could have got one way earlier but I haven't touched the lower difficulty modes since the first time I tried the game.

Also, Tokumori's April DLC, for real this time. They removed a song from the initial announcement, lol.

Yeah, the website hasn't made any mention of touch controls yet, just buttons. Though there's still 10 weekly updates plus livestreams and events between now and its release, so there's still lots of opportunities to announce it (and judging by the mystery section on the website, some of it seems relatively large-scale and not just new songs). I'd be extremely surprised if there's no touch control in the game, considering you can even use them on the Wii U Gamepad.

I can beat like 6 oni songs, but I have failed a ton. Is it better to go back and try to play hard songs better or just keep failing oni songs until I beat them? It's not very fun right now. Jumping from hard to oni hasn't really been fun at all...

I think the best thing to do is try new songs, so if there are any other Oni songs of the similar difficulty as the ones you've cleared that you still haven't tried, I'd give those a shot. If not, then just stick to the ones you can clear and have fun with, on either difficulty. Playing for fun has been the best way to improve for me, and I totally agree that playing songs I'll fail at over and over isn't very fun (and it's all about fun anyways, improvement is secondary).

So yeah, just play what you enjoy and maybe give some songs that seem like they're the next step up a try every so often. But I wouldn't go trying a song you can't quite pass over and over.

A bit of new news from NicoNico Chokaigi in the form of the debuts of 3 new Idolmaster tracks and Shikou no Ran, though there isn't really any good footage of them yet.

However, the Tokumori April DLC has just released, with the second DLC song being another song that made its debut at Chokaigi, Sachi Sachi ni Shite Ageru. It's also the first J-Pop song with an Ura chart, so that's pretty neat.

The next batch of new Taiko news, other than V Version updates, should come from the Touhou Game Show on May 10th.

edit: Just tried out the DLC songs, Sachi Sachi's main chart really is super similar to Miku Miku, lol. Hopefully they try to differentiate the chart for the Senbonzakura cover from the original a bit more, considering they'll both be in the same game...

I'd say the second, Don to Katsu no Jikuu Daibouken. It's got 8 more songs and a more involved single player campaign. Though overall they're pretty comparable.

Yeah some of the promo QR code stuff is pretty strong, my favourites are the exclusive costumes there are some great ones.

The most special is the 7-11 version as that was never meant to exist in QR code form, someone must have hacked the QR codes to get that one as the 7-11 costume and 7-11 cat were only available if you physically went to a 7-11 conveni and connected to their wireless 7 spot system and downloaded them, lol not that i'm complaining though it's wonderful to have them.

Figured this info might be of note to people here: in addition to some new V Version song announcements, there's currently a song request poll going on for DLC songs you'd like to see in V Version. Check it out by clicking the big banner at the top of this page. It runs until May 24th.

If you can't read the instructions, it says to make sure you format your entries as follows: Song Name/Artist/Subtitle or Source or other info. For instance, if you were submitting Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, enter it like: 第九交響曲/ベートーヴェン . No idea whether or not the poll is limited to songs that have been in a Taiko game before.

I have no idea which song to vote for myself, lol.

Nice.
Good costumes, too.
「ダメよーダメダメ」
The last jpop song better be Kyary... Mondai Girl would be awesome!
Or Pick Me Up by Perfume!
Hacing so much game music is awesome. I'm excited to see what else they'll add. This has the makings of my favorite console taiko game so far. Having the training mode (let me finally practice those damn songs that just have hard endings!), new story, awesome songs (Gesu no Kiwami Otome has me hyped--more through DLC, please!!) are all sweet.

If it wasn't a Kyary song, that'd make it the first console Taiko without her on the default tracklist since Wii4, which would be odd. But yeah, it's shaping up really well, imo. PSP DX is possibly my favorite console Taiko overall, so... if this ends up being comparably good I'd be really happy.

Still, definitely get your votes in for what you wanna see as DLC!

Any news if V Version will be PS TV compatible?

I haven't seen any confirmation, but we know it can be controlled via just buttons, so it'd be really weird if it didn't, no? I don't keep up with PSTV compatibility, but... I take it it's never a foregone conclusion?

If you like that kind of music, then yes. Besides The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, that track list would drive me crazy. Ew.

If you don't have a Japanese PS2, Wii U, Wii, or 3DS, a Western Vita or PSP, then I guess it is your only choice, though :/

Thinking of tracking down Taiko Drum Master as my first game. Good idea?

If you're just looking for a game that'll let you hit the drums for cheap, and can get it for a good price, then sure. In truth I haven't played that one all that extensively, but I know it has reduced difficulty compared to the rest of the series, though that shouldn't be a huge deal for a new player. If the song list looks fine to you (I know that's a lot of peoples's primary hangup over it), then go for it, and you can always pick up another one of the PS2 games, provided you have a way of playing imports, because they're relatively inexpensive.

Right now, my highest is 3DS2 with about 400000, then Wii U2 with 300000, Wii U1 with 250000 (a quarter of the way to unlocking everything, lol), and 3DS1 with 200000. All the counters on the previous games cap out at 99999, so I can't really compare those, lol. I know I have all my Wii games maxed out, and PSP DX would probably have the highest count overall if it kept track any further.

As far as news goes, a week from tomorrow is the next livestream, this time focusing around the 15th anniversary celebration (why is the 15th anniversary being celebrated when the series debuted in 2001 and the 10th anniversary event was held in 2011? I dunno! Guess it'll be a year long thing, lol). There's basically no details about the contents of the stream announced, so it could include some pretty major news. It seems a bit early to announce the next Wii U game, but seeing as they're probably going to tie it in to the 15th anniversary like Wii4 was to the 10th, it's possible it'll be mentioned.

Please bring Touhou songs to Vita....
Edit: What did you vote for the Vita game DLC song?
I voted for 「猟奇的なキスを私にして」 (Ryōkiteki na Kisu wo Watashi ni Shite) by ゲスの極み乙女。 (Gesu no Kiwami Otome.)!

Honestly, releasing the Touhou songs as song packs or DLC makes so much sense that the fact that it's yet to happen means I can't possibly predict the likelihood if it happening anytime soon, lol. I have no idea what the situation is like and I don't wanna set any expectations (largely my own expectations!). The only news on that front is that some collaboration Touhou arrangements by Taiko composers were recently debuted and will be arriving at the arcade versions relatively soon... but who knows if that means anything. Bemani just had a similar collaboration themselves and there's no sign of those coming to their home versions (and by that I mean mobile versions lol) yet.

As for the songs I voted for... sheesh, I'm trying to remember myself, lol. I know that first I voted for Magical Sound Shower because it's the best. Then... I think METAL HAWK BGM1. It's sorta one of the throwaway boss Namco Game Music tracks, but for some reason I find it really interesting to play. Then Necrofantasia as a sorta catch-all for Touhou music, but it in particular because it's a fun chart and song. And lastly Densha de GO! because we already got a bunch of Taito music so I figure it's not out of the question (I'd also vote Opa-Opa! from the same collaboration but I'm hedging all my Sega bets on one song for now, lol).

... hey, there's no rule for only voting for one song! I've only voted for songs that have already been in the series so far, if not just because going outside of that would make things too hard to choose, lol. Falcom themselves have just asked people to vote for Falcom music in the poll, so I'm considering throwing in another request for a Ys track, but I'm not sure which one yet...

I voted a second time, for "Eternal Bond."

Also, I confirmed the other night that my setup is not conducive to me playing the game on wii u. I think the screen is too big/too close to couch, so I have a hard time seeing a lot of the time. I confirmed this by playing a song on controller that I have no problem with on Oni on 3DS, but I failed it on Wii U2. I guess I won't really play Wii U2 much until I move and have a different setup. Also, I can play faaaaar more songs on 3DS than on tatakon.
