Kerbal Space Program: Beta v0.90.0 - Beta Than Ever!

Hrm, no re-entry heat for launch? Damn... That's one feature i really, really want.

I read today that they felt they could add it in fairly quickly with the new aero model so it could make it.

Is there any talk of a UI redesign? I find the game difficult to play at high resolutions since the UI doesn't scale at all in most modules.

Not seen anything, though not noticed a problem myself. I've played on my 30" full screen and 1080 windowed.

Most of the UI buttons and icons are too small when you go over 1080p. You can resize some of the controls in the flight module but everything else is locked at the same size regardless of resolution.

Re-Entry heat will now be in 1.0 as well. Confirmed today. Can be turned off.

Also the new aero overlay to help design craft is working very well. Just trying to finalise how best to show the player without making it too simple or complicated.

Excellent.

I don't have to use as many mods when 1.0 is out. I actually never got around playing 0.26 or whatever it was (nor 0.90) because it crashed, presumably due to mods, and i didn't care for finding the problem.

At this rate, i'll just need some parts mods, perhaps extended resource system (depending what the devs will offer), and perhaps something like kOS and Scansat.

So awesome!

Ok KSP GAF, we finally have a date for 1.0, it is releasing 4/27/2015 !@!!! So excited. I have officially claimed OT duty but I would love any contributions or feedback from KSP GAF. I am likely going to do format similar to my .25 thread but redo all of the graphics and information (obviously).

If you want contribute please PM me. Even if you just want to contribute a screen shot of some of your best KSP creations that would be great (preferably from release .25 and .90 so the updated parts used in your creations will be more familiar for newcomers)

Anything new in the 1.0 update?

Woah, that soon? I've been holding off on playing KSP until 1.0 hits, as I want to start a new career from scratch. I guess it's soon time to start exploring the solar system again! I have over 80 hours played with KSP and I've never ventured farther than the two moons of Kerbin. I just spent so many fun hours building rockets and experimenting with stuff. This career I plan on planting flags on ALL of the planets.

It will probably take me the rest of the year, LOL.

Anything new in the 1.0 update?

Of course! (OT will cover all the changes) but some highlights are,

-Overhauled aerodynamics (this is huge)
-Fairings
-Re-entry heat and heat shields
-Female Kerbals
-Reworked tutorials
-Resources and possible mining (mining seems confirmed after a recent video shows some drill looking device)

Yep, I am in the same boat. I have around 200 hours in KSP, but the majority of those hours came before .25 release, let alone .90. I fired up the updates to play around with the new features but I didn't want to do a career mode or go crazy with my creations until 1.0 to really save up lots of new things to explore. I still have only planted flags as far as Duna. I have been patiently waiting to reach every planet once the official 1.0 dropped, especially because once the addition of re-entry heat, aero overhaul and resource mining was confirmed. That should dramatically change how missions are planned and executed. KSP has been awesome since .15, but 1.0 is looking to be more than worthy of the years of KSP hype.

All aboard the hype train!

Holy hell, no kidding? That's a lot of additional goodness, more than I expected!

Have you played .90 release? .25 and .90 both added a ton of new parts, especially for space planes. I do believe some additional structural parts are planned but there is definitely the new parts like heat shields, drills, fairings, etc.

Edit: oh yeah another 1.0 feature is kerbals can now clamber up objects. You can see it in action here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuZRHGIvWho

Edit2: Here are 10 recently released screen shots of 1.0 http://imgur.com/VjYaPql,ujlQmNY,7gfvOKf,jNFCnBN,c4Jub1i,NDFBvXW,6pAlfA5,XL1VKUx,jrKynIF,tby5gyY#0 You can see the drill object in some of the screens.

So exciting. I still remember .13.3 back when the full release and demo were the same content

We've come so far. As I said before, any info you haven't collected feel free to lift from my OP.

You gonna list everything from .25 on, make a crash course, or just the new stuff?

Yeah, most of my time was played pre 0.25. I've spent a dozen hours or so with .25 and .90 and I absolutely love the new career mode and missions, and yes they added tons of new components. I wanted to do a new career badly but they kept hinting that 1.0 was "soon" so I held off and decided to play other games in the meantime.

Now with 1.0 next week, I guess Elite Dangerous will have to take a back seat for a bit!

Going to try to do a little of both. I want to focus on this being "the full game" and make it friendly to new comers who have never touched KSP, so I want to highlight all of the features and fun things to do in KSP whether it was possible since day one or if they were only added in the last update or two. But I will also be sure to have a section about recent features for those who have been on the early access ride for a while.

I suspect there are a lot of GAFers with KSP in their library who bought it when Giantbomb did their quicklook (that was .16!) and then again when Idle Thumbs started doing KSP(which was .19) streams and talking about it. A ton has changed from the Idle Thumbs streams and an insane amount since GB quicklook. So there are probably no shortage of people here who have had KSP in their libraries for 2-3 years. Oh man, it is going to be fucking crazy for people to jump back in to KSP who haven't touched it in two years.

Oh I just had an idea. We should make an official GAF KSP flag ahead of 1.0 launch. The requirements are pretty simple.

"The image must be a .PNG file. - The image must have the dimensions 256 X 160 pixels"

Give me the details on re-entry heat.

I once built a space bus rover to rescue a dozen of kerbals from the mun. The bus barely made it from space, one module in fact was crushed during landing and I had to take the kerbals outside the bus and have them hanging from a ladder during the parachute descend.

Starting to think that re-entry heat may have destroyed my space bus.

The game does not have re-entry heat yet (without mods). Only in 1.0.

That's an awesome idea! If I get the chance I'll try to come up with something this weekend, although I'm certain some of you could do a much better job than me. Of course, a couple of choices for NeoGAF flags would be cool too!

Biggest update yet, and it's all looking very good.

Still... I'd like to see clouds and an UI overhaul one day. I know the UI's fine for most people, but I find especially the new stuff very clunky, visually and functionally.

Will be interesting to land on Eve with these new additions. I'd be surprised if any of my old designs worked.

Oh nice I didn't know 1.0 was so close. Like others I have also been holding off playing until the 1.0 release. Re-entry heat alone is probably going to make me change the way I played.

Okay, well I got the gumption to make a quick and dirty KSP flag for GAF:

Feel free to criticize, I only spent like 20 minutes on it, LOL! Still, I kind of like it.

The final devnote tuesday before 1.0. I found these two bits intriguing.

Lastly, IÂ’ve dedicated a couple of days here to implement a feature which I think has been missing for far too long from the game, and I really didnÂ’t want to leave it out of our 1.0 release. More on that one later thoughÂ… IÂ’m very happy I got the opportunity to implement it though. I feel it wouldnÂ’t have been a proper release without it.

Lastly, weÂ’re taking bets on how long before the community discovers the resources easter egg we snuck in for you (IÂ’m betting two months post launch). One hint: ItÂ’s a pretty large easter egg.

Solid quick effort. Any GAF flags submitted will be put in the OT.

Thanks! I like the Lego Space arrow around the NeoGAF symbol, but the background needs some spicing up. Maybe some color, or a gradient, or maybe flank the symbol with GAF on the left and KSP on the right or something. Also I'm not sure red is the right color for the arrow, it doesn't work that well with the NeoGAF symbol, I might try making it a blue or a black instead.
