Look at this bullshit. This is the cancer that is killing twitch. He is the #1 stream on CS:GO with over 12K viewers
Looks like MySpace before Facebook came out.
Even Gaben is looking on in disbelief.

I might just be too old for this new phenomenon, but I don't get the appeal for streams unless the game is old (PS2/GC or older) or the game is being played competitively and you're watching high level play.
I watched Ray(ex rooster teeth guy) on twitch the other day. Donations were insane. He made a couple hundred in the 10 minutes I watched
He doesn't beg for it though

^used to sing a goddamn "subscriber song" every time someone subbed ffs. I'm not sure if they do it anymore. I haven't watched in a good while

I consider it very sad, people will rather watch someone play games then play them themselves.
That AMHAI guy sure helps a lot on making so many streamers think they can actually do it for a living.People have donated thousands and even tens of thousands of dollars to a single Twitch channel and it blows my mind.
For example, http://www.twitch.tv/legendarylea

Except these people would play games regardless if they got money for it or not. And if they wouldn't, then why are you supporting a non-gamer on a gaming site?People give money to things they like because they want more of that thing. Why is that so wrong? These people run a business and a lot of them need to do this to make that living off twitch. Good for them really. You just sound bitter honestly.
Its really not a good financial decision for most. If you look at their income as a whole they keep about 2.50 per sub, a little for advertising, and the rest is based on partnerships and sponsorships. Only the top 3 to 5 percent make enough money to sustain themselves. Some make a fortune but those are the absolute top. It's very over saturated at this point and the chances of success are very low. Hitting minimum wage would be a challenge.real talk tho, someone i met at my college had talked to me about streaming games just to make money
i mean can you blame them? people are giving them money so it's a good financial solution, it's even easy to get started doing if youve got the equipment
those overlays really kill me tho. im a graphic design major and i see some of the worst design decisions in those things
It's almost as if people like the entertainment enough to support the person making it.
They probably wouldn't stream as often. I play games on my own all the time, at the pace I like to play them, I'd probably play more often if people were paying me to do so.Except these people would play games regardless if they got money for it or not. I don't understand the hate Twitch streamers and YouTubers get here. They provide their time to stream and people like it enough to pay. If you don't want to pay, you don't have to. Watch the damn thing for free. If the donation signs bother you, guess what. You don't have to watch. Twitch is a huge website where you can find any kind of streamer. No one is forcing you to watch anything.
It all comes down to "I don't like it, so no one else should either!!"
For some reason this is just one of those topics that makes GAF lose its shit. Just like mobile gaming.
I liken it to virtual street performers. Yeah their act may be cool, but I'm not likely to throw a buck in the hat.
Exactly. You're not obligated to give them money. And if you don't like them you can simply go somewhere else.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I think a lot of people don't consider the amount of work that goes into streaming. Tons of planning, long days, long nights, and an insane amount of focus to be an interactive streamer. When your not streaming your answering private messages and having calls with sponsors and partners. All that and trying to maintain some small bit of a social life. I did a ton of research on becoming a Twitch Streamer. Once I found out the amount of work it entailed I decided against it. I prefer 8 hour work days not 14!People give money to things they like because they want more of that thing. Why is that so wrong? These people run a business and a lot of them need to do this to make that living off twitch. Good for them really. You just sound bitter honestly.

"If you don't like it, don't watch it" is the most useless thing to bring to any discussion.
It's just a damn shame that game streaming has turned into idiots spamming that stupid kappa face and throwing money at people for no reason. Very difficult to find a decent channel now days that has a normal chat. Normally have to scroll down quite a bit.
