Hairworks will probably be expensive to run well, as with all Nvidia shit. Nvidia goodies are usually the first thing worth turning off if performance is an issue.
Hopefully not. I would love not to have to buy a second 970 FTW, but I am leaning towards doing so, as I really want hairworks, but I also really want 4K.
As Gamestar reported, an Intel i7-4790 with 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GTX980 was able to run the game at 1080p on Ultra settings with almost constant 60fps. This latest build of The Witcher 3 is said to report smoother than the preview build CD Projekt RED showcased back in January, and implements NVIDIAs HairWorks (which Gamestar was also allowed to enable, and managed to sustain almost 60fps continuously).
I am holding on to this for dear life. If 1 month ago it was running 60fps with hairworks on on Ultra, I feel like if anything, the game would have been optimized further in the weeks leading up to going gold, and even further assuming there is a day one patch. I remain cautiously optimistic. Though it does seem a pipe dream that TW3 would get as good/better performance than TW2 when it looks a generation ahead of TW2.
We should know soon enough.
