I wonder if we'll have someone from Japan here telling us if the game has English subtitles before the weekend.

Ugh, I think I had more trouble with that level than 33. Don't remember how I beat it on 3DS, might've slingshotted from the start. Can't seem to get it to work now.

Yeah, I've gotten to the door no problem. It's getting the backpack that requires the "proper" route that gives me a hard time, lol.

Fuck, I was under the impression for some reasons that it would be out in Europe today. :(

At least my Japanese version shipped today from Nippon-Yasan so I'll have it next week.

I had a lot of trouble with Stage 9 last night... took almost 40 tries to beat it. I like the game so far, it's a lot different from anything else I have played before.

That's some impossible boobs on the main heroine righ there. Not only are they sticking out in a weird way but they're pointing in opposite directions and are both individually defined through the thight blouse. That's not how clothes work, it ain't spandex!

Anyway. First time I ever heard about this game (franchise?). It's unfortunate it came out the same week as Shovel Knight though. I'm currently deep in that 2D sidescrollers for now.

I picked this up yesterday, been enjoying it so far. 60fps does make the core mechanic feel a lot smoother, which is nice, especially when you need to make quick actions in a split second.

I'm a bit disappointed that it isn't improved everywhere, though, which was what I was expecting. The loading times in particular are now noticeable when they weren't before. The resolution's also a bit weird. It's below native resolution, but it's also not massively higher than it was on 3DS. When I look at both versions side by side, the aliasing on the rocks looks very similar. It's a shame as I was looking forward to playing a really crisp looking version of this.

Still, it just feels so much better to play now at 60fps that the above doesn't matter an awful lot, and the upgraded Kawase model is really nice. Also: Vita's roomy D-Pad will be good for getting the most out of those elastic physics. I'm really looking forward to trying the rejigged stages and the SNES original, I've already come across a few differences which have stopped me from playing this on autopilot.

so is this game punishing?
like... Spelunky or La Mulana kind of hard?

More Spelunky than La Mulana. It's hard but you can master it through experimentation and repeat play. La Mulana, as already pointed out, is hard for reasons that aren't in this game (cryptic puzzles, a lot of trial and error, that kind of thing).

HOLY FUCKING SHIT I JUST BEAT CRAB 2, which I was never able to do before. Only five deaths this time.
I did kind of use Young Umi though.
I'm coming for you, Tadpole 2.

Europe gets the game next week:

Agatsuma Entertainment has confirmed that Sayonara Umihara Kawase + will be available on the European PS Store for PlayStation Vita on April 30th. It’ll cost €15.99

Sayonara Umihara Kawase + has been available on PS Vita across North America since April 21st, and in Japan and Asia since April 23rd. The European version will contain the same features as those other PS Vita versions of the game.

Very impressive of Agatsuma to do a worldwide release in such a short period of time. Even more impressive when you consider that this is their first PlayStation game.

It seriously is. Considering how botched other more experienced publishers get these things.

I'm really enjoying this now to the point where I can't play the 3DS original anymore, it feels so slow.

This so much, I'm impressed. It seems that Agatsuma hired a consultant to help with their digital publishing, according to this piece: http://bitparade.co.uk/article.php?id=3652

"Judging from the game's press release, Agatsuma Entertainment appear to be working with the consultants at Cuba Entertainment in bringing the game overseas."

I had a look at said press release and it seems it's David Clark, who was instrumental in making GreenMan Gaming a success. More Japanese publishers should work with him!

On a related note, the same site has posted up a review for this. A 9/10!

Sheesh, such a small game, you'd think the language select would be in all versions.
Oh well, it's on it's way to me now. The figure looks more creepy than cute to me.

Fuck, the dream is truly dead.
Will still consider it at the first sale though, it was apparently overstocked.

Question about the SFC original, which is included in the game:

every time the character is killed by an enemy, a pink cloth pops up and drifts around in the wind.

Those....aren't her panties, are they? I don't know what else they could be, though...

Her backpack, lol

Gives all the fucks
I remember that being addressed in the review by the late JewWario. Yeah, it's her backpack, but I don't blame you for thinking it was something else.

I remember posting in a topic about the cover of the game, which was the first time I had heard of the game at all. I was pretty shocked to see it on sale on the PSN store this week so close to the Japanese release, and since I was already interested, I went ahead and picked it up along with Shovel Knight.

I just have to say, wow, this game is fantastic! I didn't expect to have this much fun (or frustration, lol) with it. The bungee fishing line is a neat way to traverse the stages and leads to some neat solutions. I appreciate the challenge the game gives me. I think maybe I should have picked up the 3DS version earlier. This game needs more attention but sadly I imagine Shovel Knight will take up the lion's share of attention this week in digital games on PSN (due to cheaper price and being available on more than just the Vita). Kind of a bad time to release.

Maybe if we pester Agatsuma enough on social media, they'll patch an English language option into the JP version?

I might just go ahead and get the digital version, I don't really want the physical one bad enough if it's Japanese only to spend $20+ shipping extra.

Just got my copy. Love the little figure and cleaning cloth that came with it. Had the 3ds version but never really had time to play it back at its release. Glad I waited. The improvements are nice, and I love that they added the Super Famicom version to the game. Always wanted to play that version. While I'm ok with Japanese, I still find the lack of language options in the Japanese version disappointing and lazy to be honest. I always hate when I see that happen in games these days. I guess Im getting a little spoiled by the increasing English options in games in Japan and just expect it always.

Anyway lots of fun so far. Should keep me busy all weekend.

Shame about no language options in the Japanese version. Ah well, still prefer physical whenever possible. My copy should be here Monday hopefully (with the pre-order figure and a badge~)
