Nippon Ichi means no1 in Japan. Just like Sekai Ichi means you're no1 in the world.

That never was their name. They never had an official studio name other that Japan Studio.
Yeah, but they aren't a game studio.
They are SCE Japan Studio (Product Development Department #1?) and the group of staffers that made ICO got 'Team Ico' as a nickname, but the staffers switch around on other projects within SCE Japan Studio.
It's a bit like 'Team Zelda' at Nintendo EAD. More of a nickname.

Just had a look through my Steam library on list mode. Coffee stain studios: unimaginative. There are some that are silly, or ask more questions but I wouldn't really call those dumb.
I heard a joke that they called themselves Team Olympic internally because they released a game every four years. So much for that.
Jaffe studio wasn't it? I guess it was his name.
