Third Party Vita 2K Grip Accessory Adds R2/L2 Buttons

Would buy one if it were for the original Vita.

Oh well I guess it saves me money, would have used it for remote play and unfortunately I can't seem to connect my Vita to my uni's network which is where I would use it most anyway.

I'm hoping Sony makes a Vita 3.0 that is like the N3DS: two more shoulder buttons, improved battery life, can do everything the Vita does bit also has boosted specs so it can have exclusive games that can utilize it. Maybe clickable sticks also? Until then, remote play is really bad unless devs make good control schemes.

It's still selling relatively okay in Japan but I doubt we'll see a new hardware revision unless it catches fire over there.

It'd be nice though, for sure.

I love my Nyko grip that gives me better battery life and while this would allow me to actuskky enjoy remote play now, I can't see giving up that extra 75% battery life.

I'm a little surprised Sony didn't make a first party grip to solve this problem.

They have to kinda give a shit about the platform first. Also, they probably don't want to admit that this whole "back touch panel" has been a design failure for them.

As much as I would love this, I would be completely happy if PS Now and remote play would just work like this with one account:

of course, as well as DS4 working directly through RP, so you could use it away from home. But doesnt look like they will do either. :(
But supporting multiple accounts, seems would be easier to implement and would help greatly.

Joetsu put out a Japanese press release last night. Here are some photos:

Uses a special rubber to activate the touchpad when you press on their R2/L2 buttons.

MSRP is actually 3,980yen with a release set in late April.

Neat idea, but I wonder how comfortable it is to hold. Sony should really team up with Hori or PDP and make an official solution with R3/L3 support too.

No original vita lovin'?

;_;

I've been looking for a good grip for the original Vita for the past week or so and it's a lost cause... local stores, amazon, ebay, all dead ends unless I want to fork out 100+ fucking dollars for a $15 accessory.

The custom control functions in 2.50 should make this damn near perfection... unless they release a DS4 cradle like they have for the Z3.

Too bad i have an OLED lol

Here are some more details about the accessory. Looks like an April 30th release

So hope it works well, this is something Sony should be putting out as a first party accessory.

*edit*

Sorry about putting spaces in the URL. Not sure why, but the dualshockers site won't show up in the URL when I post the message, it comes up as ********* like it's being censored.

As others have said, where is the OLED version?!?!?!

Not having L2/R2 is the main reason I don’t use remote play as much as I would like for certain games. If I had that sorted it would make things a lot easier.

PS4 firmware 2.50 should alleviate some of this issue w/ the system-wide button re-mapping; but it'll add another nuisance of having to change/toggle the re-maps based on if you're playing remotely or not.

4gamer has a pretty extensive interview about this grip. It sounds like Joetsu aren't against making a similar product for Vita 1000s, but they want to ensure there's an audience for this.

I've been waiting ever since the post was made, what does the interview entail or is it specifically about bringing the grip to the 1000 model? I can't open it at work unfortunately.

We'd need someone who has a proper grasp of theJapanese language to dissect it, but it looks like the interview is focused on the development of the grip. There's a few photos showing it through various stages:

It's not slim anymore and butt ***k ugly. It's not even well implemented. Isn't the point of the Vita portability and sleekness? They designed it without because of compromise.

I guess I'm confused as a Vita fan. Do people actually want a handheld console that is portable or just a small console that does everything?

Well, this is only for people that want to play games that use more buttons, not Vita games. Losing portability isn't that big of a deal when you're connected to your home console anyway.

Why not both? It's not like the grip is a permanent fixture, use it at home for remote play and take it off when you're on the go.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on buying one from Play-asia. I'll write a review as soon as it gets in. Lets hope for the best.

PSVita pretty much exists now as a Remote Play device. It won't get AAA titles like Uncharted Golden Abyss anymore. So it needs all the relevent buttons that the DS4 has for 1:1 Remote Play input.

That's a pretty cool solution for L2/R2 input, but alas, I have the OLED Vita. I might still be interested since I'm planning on importing a black/khaki green 2000.

This peripheral is only available in Japan where that is really far from the truth.

I have a feeling it may not even have a tactile switch for the triggers. If that's the case this thing will be worthless.

Wow sad truth. With that said this reminds me of those GBA brick accessories back in the day.

Sony won't live or die by Japan. Japan have mostly moved-onto mobile gaming instead of handheld gaming. In terms of North America, UK/Europe, if Sony is officially going to position PSVita as a Remote Play device, they need to make a new PSVita with L2/R2/L3/R3 for 1:1 Remote Play.

No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
I have mine currently and while its nice and works, there is 1 small issue with it, which might be serious for some.

After feeling the plastic and how it fits in, the areas circled in red in the image below are weakpoints that feel like they would have a high probability to snap off if a user is constantly trying to take out / put in their PSV.

That and dont expect to fit this in any sort of case, so if you are planning on getting / using one you better have a screen protector on. As with the issue stated above would not recommend taking the vita in / out of the housing.

Not really the best design considering the price of the thing. Damned shame too since the case itself and triggers do work.
