So, "known" numbers so far.
Probably missed a couple. Also lost track of the LTDs in the US.

The brand was never that strong to begin with, it just looked that way because Sony screwed up the PS3 launch and price. That's exactly what happened.
But they also forgot that they had like a 16 month head start over the PS3 which sure as shit helped them get a toe in that market in the first place. 360 was out for two Christmas periods in Europe before the PS3 landed.
IIRC, Xbox One gets continuous deals in Germany, even consistent ones. So, this would be happening despite those deals. Is that true?
yeah, they dug their own grave with that e3. But it also doesn't help that the xbox one was initially 100 euro more expensive than the ps4 (because of kinect) whilst its hardware power is not better.~Oliver Kaltner, the chief of Xbox division (germany), one week before XOne launched.

I was very curious what their plan was to increase their market share in germany by 10%... as it seems they had none.
I think, after E3 2013, the Xbox brand never recovered and most people still treat it as a american focused TV machine (with no real functionality in germany/europe) with inferior graphic capabilitys.

The following things are keeping me from buying an Xbox One for its exclusives (which really really interest me):
the countrys federal data protection commissioner, Peter Schaar, said he was unsettled by how the Xbox One records all sorts of personal information that would be processed on an external server and possibly passed on to third parties. "The fact that Microsoft is now spying on my living room is just a twisted nightmare," Schaar told the newspaper.
That's exactly what happened.

Anyone recall this:
German Official: Xbox One Spying Capabilities a "Twisted Nightmare"
Think it had a hand in tarnishing the brand?

"Not surprising because Germany and Japan were both on the losing side of the World War. I'm sure there is some anti American bias."
Cheers. Nothing for XB1? Launch was stronger than PS4's IIRC, but we know it caught up, so I guess it may not be too far behind?
PC is very strong in germany, but it is not "first".
Where are you pulling that from? That was maybe 15 years ago.
I remember a comment on N4G about a year ago when was article about "PS4 is crushing Xbox One in Germany". :
What a LOL!
That was maybe 15 years ago.
Wow. What a ratio.
That doesn't seem true, unless the people that stock the shelves across the country are imbeciles. This is anecdotal evidence, but PC games have a much, much bigger presence at retail than any console. I'm sure that means something.
Where are you pulling that from?
In 2013, the PC market had revenue of 531 million, all consoles combined only 862. And there isn't a console that dominates with more than 50%, so obviously PC #1.

We get weekly sales numbers and while the PC retail space is very healthy compared to many other countries it's not the most dominant one.
No, I'm sure you are right. I'm just saying the numbers for the country are not supporting the local shelves you see.I could take pictures of the 3-4 shelves of PC games compared to the 1-2 with PS4 games next time I'm at my local Media Markt if you want. I'm not making it up.

Nah that was early last year according to Newzoo. Can's find much more recent info but at that point as a single platform nothing touches the PC market there.
Plugging the headphones to the DS4 is probably the PS4 feauture I use the most and the one I don't want them to go back on. Couldn't live without it now.

If I remember correctly, we had a thread here a few months ago.
PS4/PS3 is No1 in germany. Can't find the thread and the pics right now :/
Screw ratio. Xbone has still not sold more there than X360 managed on its launch day.
I'm not sure what's happening then. Maybe retail chains aren't reacting to the changing market fast enough.

Consoles were dominating the German game market in 2013 (no public data for 2014 but it shouldn't be that differently), so saying that Germany is a PC dominated country is plain wrong.
My local Media Markt changed the shelves recently. All Xbox One shelves are now PS4 shelves and the Xbox One stuff got half of the Xbox 360 shelve.

So you are ignoring the online games and browser games which are mostly PC and 100% PC? Add those numbers and you are almost as big as the console market. Now split the console market into their respective platforms (XBOX, PS and Wii) and you get PC domination which was exactly what that other guy said.
Vita games are in boxes on the floor.
Seems to me like it's PC land first, but when talking about consoles then Sony's where people play.
I'm not ignoring anything. I was replying to the post that Germany is a PC do country, which is based on my provided data wrong.
Consoles are bigger than PC there nowadays.
We have long noses here in Germany
Seems a bit pointless. I mean, of course the biggest market for games in the world skews things. Thats why so much stuff is tailored to US tastes, even quirky stuff like Codename Steam when portables take a backseat to consoles there. Doesn't mean the portable market there still isn't worth bothering with.Just you wait until the end of the gen though. It's going to be close apparently.
More seriously all the recent news about strong PS4 lead in territories outside US sure shows why MS has resorted to all the deals, price drops and big holiday push in US for XB1: without US (and to a lesser extent UK but primarily US) the console would be way behind by now.
Perhaps someone can make an article removing US from XB1 sales to show the global picture more clearly without that region skewing things?

I think everyone knows what a picture of global sales without the US would look like.
Somewhere between January and March I saw an Evolve ad with the Xbox One cover displayed very prominently in every ad break of Comedy Central between 6pm and 10pm or so.I think Microsoft could get better sales if they actually advertised their console in Europe...
Who has seen an advert for Xbox in European media like on TV? It doesn't happen. In marketing terms the console doesn't even exist in Europe.
