Rumor: 20-30 Minutes gameplay demo of Fallout 4 at E3 / not coming 2015

Eh, Until Bethesda says otherwise I am still expecting it this year. It will have been four years since Skyrim this November, and I just don't see them taking five years on this game.

FUCK YEAH.

Love this! Where is it from???

Man, I really hope they announce! The world of Fallout is just one of my favorite worlds to explore. I love that whole "post-apocalyptic" eerie feel to it. Such a great experience.

Five years between Skyrim and Fallout 4 is ridiculous.

No kidding!

Using my two favorite developers and franchises as an example, Bethesda and DICE (I know, I know.. BUGS). Skyrim and Battlefield 3 launched roughly the same time with in a span of a couple months in 2011. By the time Fallout 4 releases in 2016, DICE will have announced and released the following:

  • Battlefield 3 Expansions
  • Battlefield 4
  • Battlefield 4 Expansions
  • Battlefront
  • Battlefront Expansions
  • Mirror's Edge
  • Mirrors Edge Expansions
  • Announce and possible release Battlefield 5

Since that same time Bethesda, has released a couple Skyrim expansions. I'm not complaining but its really frustrating as a big Elder Scrolls fan looking at 2019 - 2020 for TESVI.

I'm pretty sure that's from the original Fallout. (Or at least I know I've seen it before somewhere).

I'd be down with spring 2016 as long as it means a less buggy launch

Was hoping for this year but wasn't expecting it either

It will be a Q1 2016 game if its not this year. Didn't Todd Howard say it would have a shorter announcement to release time than Skyrim which was 11 months?

Never understood the hype for the Fallout series even after watching a lot of gameplay videos. Seems like a poor mans Elder Scrolls.

Hopefully this E3 will turn me around because the hype is at a fever pitch here on Gaf!

Well, on the upside, whenever a new TES game comes out it feels truly special. Like waiting forever for that new book you eagerly wanted to read.

I'm still personally expecting a release this holiday. I don't have any knowledge on its release date but there are a few factors that make me convinced rather than not. The game's been in development for quite a while now and it isn't the kind of game that needs a year + of marketing and advertising. It's a new Fallout game, everyone knows what it is, everyone will plop down 60 bones on day one regardless whether they announce it's coming a year from now or a week from now. There's no need to build up "hype", just look at what happens to the internet at any mere mention of the game, everyone's already busting at the seams before it's even announced.

Many developers and publishers are becoming more wary of announcing big games very early on and draaaagging out their marketing schedules. It's an impediment more than it is beneficial for the game. People lose interest over time, they start scrutinizing every little piece of news or info and it's counterproductive. We've seen this happen.

It's also a reason why Todd Howard said as much as he did here: https://youtu.be/V0MpuiYJkuI?t=21m51s

Add to that the fact that Bethesda has been releasing their marquee titles between early October and early November since Fallout 3, the one major outlier being ESO. In the case of ESO it can probably be argued that they'd rather get it out earlier in the year so as to not cannibalize their consumer base, because there is absolutely an overlap in ESO and Fallout fans.

I completely agree with a 2015 release. Not only could a long gestation period between announcement and launch see a wane in popularity among the "less-than-hardcore" crowd, but also the amount of money they'd have to spend in marketing would be far less.

I'd be kinda disappointed if they announced it at E3, showed a half hour of gameplay/development and ended with a late 2016 release date. At that point just wait for E3 2016 to say something.

I have a bet with my brother that Fallout will come before Elder Scrolls. I have no idea why he's so convinced that ES would come first, but if I win, I get a free meal from Raising Canes.

ESO is not a Bethesda Game Studios title tho. It has been developed and published by Bethesda Softworks and Zenimax Media.

It makes sense. Todd Howard did a gameplay demo when Fallout 3 was revealed at E3. Now that they have their own conference they can take more time and really show the game off.

No Fallout this year and I might be tempted by ESO.
Still got my fingers crossed for Fallout 4 though.

I was gonna mention that and the fact that New Vegas wasn't technically a Bethesda Studios game either but they still fall under the umbrella of the respective franchises. It also felt like they were only trying to get enough people on board for ESO to justify the money they spent on putting it together. It could've worked either way, but I think you get what I'm trying to say.

If it releases in 2016 that's 8 years since Fallout 3. Why the hell has it taken them this long? That's like Duke Nukem: Forever territory. Yes, I'm aware they worked on Skyrim in-between.

This also means Mass Effect 4 and Fallout 4 are probably releasing in the same year. 2016 confirmed RPG heaven.

Hope the landscape is more interesting this time around. One gripe about Fallout 3 was exploration was practically pointless and very boring due to just nothing being around at all.

VATS was awesome though so keep that.

Fix the hip firing mechanics though because something was off about it in 3.

I am more excited for the next Elder Scrolls though.

I wouldn't count this as "nothing being around at all". There were places to discover around every corner and every rock. Those are just the main locations which you can fast travel to. There are several other point of interests aswell and some hidden locations.

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like
DAMMIT! DAMMIT! DAMMIT! It's been over 4 years since Fallout New Vegas and I have to wait even more?! Ughhhhhhhhhhhh....

Speaking of Fallout I hope that the Van Buren trademark inXile filed back in December is a future Fallout CRPG game.

Yeah, I'm with shinobi on this one. I'm still inclined to think it'll release this year. Last year we saw the announcement of Far Cry 4, which was released six months later. I totally think Fallout 4 could follow the same announce/release strategy. So unless they're still hardcore into development, as the game began production in 2011, I still see it being released this year.

There's also another possibility why they choose to reveal it now even though it's not a 2015 title.

As a scapegoat for other Bethesda games.

If DOOM, Battleborn or say... Dishonored 2 were slated for fall this year/spring/summer next year, they'd need to be announced by E3, but those games alone cannot carry a conference.

So Fallout is asked to be the 'darling' who has the unfortunate grace of being announced earlier than it needed to, for the sake of pushing the other Bethesda games.

Also unconfirmed rumor: Activision will be showing Call of Duty at E3 this year.

This isn't exactly a bold rumor. "Bethesda to do the obvious at E3 this year, says unconfirmed source"

Half an hour gameplay demo *is* a pretty specific prediction. The game hasn't even been confirmed to exist, even though it's a given at this time.
