Witcher 3 PC Performance Thread

Playing on my 46 inch plasma TV at 1080p

All settings on HIGH, HBAO+ on, everything else is turned turned on except for hairworks. Running great. Getting a solid 60fps 98% of the time...in game engine cutscenes 60fps...but the video sequences are a rough and jittery 25-30, dunno WTF is up with that. Even the intro movie showing the Witcher tracking Yennefer was a bit hitchy.

Uh....Yeah, WTF? Very weird and jarring.

Gameplay itself is buttery smooth though so I am good. :) Turning hairworks on definitely drops my frame rate from 60 to 45-50 at times though intermittently.

I'm running a 560ti 1gb, 4gb ram, phenom ii x6 @ 3.7ghz 1050p. Anything past the low presets are pretty much unplayable but I also get some intermittent stutter. I could try putting the game install to my SSD but not sure I'll see any improvement. Should I bother trying to run the game on this rig or just get the ps4 version?

4770k @ 4.2

windows 8.1

Not running so great for me, averaging 35 fps. All settings on Ultra w/ no hairworks and no motion blur.

Lowering everything to High gets me 55 fps. Have yet to find one setting that drastically changes performance.

Just took a good look at the Geforce page. Ultra, honestly, is a very minimal upgrade in a lot of areas. Am I right in assuming that? It looks like Shadows and Density on high, HBAO+, and hairworks are the way to go?

Runs great on a 7850 2GB (oc to 7870 range). Shadows and foliage range on high, everything else (other than hairworks of course) on ultra and capped at 30fps.

As expected HairWorks destroy AMD gpus.

My fps goes from 38 to 22 with the Geralt preset (ultra).

What's more strange is that i can't get 60 even with everything on low.

So what's the consensus so far then? Looks like crap compared to 2013 AND runs like shit? Reading benchmarks where only Titan X can achieve 1080p 60fps with ultra settings is pretty disgusting considering the quality of the visuals on offer tbh.

I'm getting 60fps with Ultra and the game is very nice looking.

i7 920
GTX 980
9GB DDR3

It just crashed again though, argh.

Going to try again without hairworks ... See what happens...I'm giving up for the night after this..

just had a crash. So far I'm getting 60 (everything on ultra) with some annoying small drops/stutters. 1080p, 970 SLI and a 2600k@4.4.

Game loads in the background causing hitchiness. But it should be patched hopefully.

Hitting 40s at 4k with Titan X's in SLI and some shadow tweaks. Not bad, probably will lock it to 30

Can't believe this game is running at a steady 30 on my 7850 HD OC. Kind of regretting the 970 that I ordered tonight..

I like this statement as I have a 7850 OCd and haven't played yet. What settings?

Runs great on a 7850 2GB (oc to 7870 range). Shadows and foliage range on high, everything else (other than hairworks of course) on ultra and capped at 30fps.

Holy crap. This is better than I had hoped. From what I hear, that should be much better quality settings than the PS4 version I have arriving tomorrow. Can't wait to try these settings on mine tonight.

Getting around 40fps.

Windows 8.1
FX-8350 4 GHz
16 GB RAM
R9 280x2

Everything in ultra and Nvidia hair off.
Booo I want 60! Let the tweaking begin.

That makes no sense. Something is wrong with your rig cause I have the same setup but Im on windows 7 and just a R9 290. Im getting 60FPS with a mix of high and Ultra settings at 1080p.

I'm currently exploring the first area after the intro/tutorial. Everything is at 1080p, with Ultra settings but for Shadows and Foliage Visibility Range, which are set to High. All post-processing effects are enabled, and HairWorks is disabled.

I'm running it with a 30 fps cap via Nvidia's 1/2 refresh vsync option and a 30 fps limit via Afterburner. So far, it never goes below 30, and my GPU usage is anywhere between 60-99% usage, with a rough average usage of 75%.

The Foliage Visibility Range is a massive performance hog at Ultra on my setup. I was getting a 25 (and below) fps average in the intro/tutorial area, and I had no idea why. Sure enough, setting the Foliage from Ultra to High brought me from 99% usage and the low-mid 20's, to 75-80% with a solid 30.

I did some screenshot comparisons between the Ultra and High Foliage settings, and thankfully the difference is negligible for the performance tradeoff. Same goes for the Shadows setting; knocking it down from Ultra to High nets me a 10-15% performance savings with a virtually unnoticeable IQ drop (at least in my brief screen comparisons).

Overall, it looks great, and for my specs, I'm pretty happy with the performance. I'm just glad I don't have to spring for a better GPU...well, just yet (980ti, I'm looking at you ;).

Yes, I do plan to get a new monitor when I have the orens

Not hitting 60 FPS at Ultra. This is kind of bugging me.

I have a 3440x1440 monitor but I'm playing this on my TV for the time being so 1080p, almost always 60 FPS locked here on a 5930k and Titan X. I have only seen it dip a few times during cutscenes.

Is your card overclocked? I have mine at 1300 MHz.

Borderless Windowed eats into performance also might want to try Fullscreen

What are your system specs and settings if you don't mind my asking?

Posted above but they are

Windows 8.1
16GB DDR4-2666 Memory
i7-5820K
Titan X 12GB
Crucial MX100 512GB SSD

I'm going to uninstall the driver with Driver Sweeper and see if that helps. I saw on Reddit that it was necessary for some people to do that to get SLI working.

Game looks like trash and still runs below 60fps. The new nvidia drivers only improved fps by like 3-4fps. On ultra with everything on I get anywhere from 30fps to 40. With hairstuff off like 45-50ish fps. Disappointing, going to have to lower other stuf.

I bet MGSV will look way better and perform way better.

After 2 hours on PC:

i7-3770
R9 290 TRI-X

All ultra, only foliage high, hairworks off (hbao+ enable)

almost constant 60fps all time!

So happy; big bootleg is foliage high vs ultra; (60 fps vs 47 fps for me)

Game looks awesome, feeling is so great;

I don't know how people can stand 30 FPS on PC. It feels horrid. The response to my input feels really slugging in this game below 50 FPS. I think it might be made a bit worse too with the momentum Geralt has when you're running around.

i think Kepler performance is in the toilet.

I've had several black screen crashes where I had to reboot my computer. Happens especially in the opening room when going on the balcony after walking around a bit.

Could this mean my card (EVGA 970) is dying?

Titan X can do 1440p/Ultra/60fps no problem if you disable Hairworks.

I get a solid 30 FPS at Medium Graphics Detail and High Post Process, unlocked it hovers between 39 and 43fps. Feels stuttery unlocked.

I tried to run it at High Graphics and High Post Process got like 16 to 18FPS and it dropped to 10FPS by the worst.

Gonna stick to Medium Graphics / High Post Process at locked 30FPS.

I can't wait until I build my Skylake i7, Pascal 1080 GTX, 16GB DDR4 system. I will come back and max everything.

EDIT - Even at Medium the game looks quite nice

Although the I don't care for the orange glow.

I meditated to 9AM and it fixed the issue somewhat, so I'm guessing the orange glow is a time of day thing.

Trifire and you're only just achieving 60fps maxed? What res are you running?

i5 2500K (4.2 oc)
GTX 780 (OC)
8GB RAM

all settings on high with blur and depth of field set to off.. turning vsync off and maximizing the FPS option removed the janky feeling but the performance is disappointing. it hovers between 17-35 fps

Asus Rog Swift G-Sync Monitor.
780Ti x 2 GPU (both factory OC)
4770k @ 4.3 CPU
16GB 2400mhz RAM
840 Evo SSD
Windows 7 + Latest patch and drivers.

All i have to say is, God Bless G-Sync.

I have everything at ultra with hairworks on. I turned on everything possible.

I'm running on unlimited frame rate on 1440p and im getting between 30-60fps (deeding on the situation).

G-Sync handles the dips and the highs with grace, smooth as butter the whole way through.

All the IQ i want with no tearing and every but as responsive as i could wish.

You shouldn't get this framedrops running high.

I and other users could run a mix of ultra/high using the (almost)same config and lock the game at 30.

4670k 4.5Ghz and 780ti, runs really well at 1080p on mixed high/ultra settings. At 60 most of the time, some chugging to around 45-55 in certain heavy foliaged areas. Just wished I had a 980ti right now because the game looks incredible.

Hairworks is just a no go if I want a smooth experience.

I have a G-Sync monitor and I'm running this on a solid state drive but I'm still getting some awful stuttering when wandering around the open world. Seems related to asset streaming. Sigh.

I'm genuinely impressed with my 770 performance. No overclocking and I'm getting a solid 30fps (I'm using a controller and don't mind 30fps for open world games) with everything on ultra apart from foliage visibility range on high and hair works off.

I must be missing something, I have 980's in SLI and ROG Swift and I can easily tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps on this monitor... are you playing with a controller? I feel like when I play games with a controller it's less noticible, but when moving a mouse it's extremely obvious.

I was under the impression all GSync did was prevent any screen tearing.
