The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt |OT2| Wanted to find Ciri, but everything Gwent wrong

If you want to take the time, go through and look near the descriptions to see how heavy everything you have is.

Also does anybody know where the merchant who buys books is? I don't even care if it's for 1 crown lol

I think he is in the main square in Novigrad, where you can also find the herbalist, armourer and currency exchange.

I disagree. I personally think a eprson must be incredible strong to stay hidden and scape the wild hunt for so long. Yeah, she got help, but she did most of the work.

I ment as in:
Voice acting.
Way she runs and walks.
The weird dash she does.

The short time you play as her is boring as hell. Before this game I was excited about playing as Ciri in the next game, now I am worried about it.

eh idk how to describe it without spoiling it in the first place, just general spoilers from like middle to 2/3rds into the game

man the scene with him, geralt and that other witcher getting drunk was great, even admitted that while acts like an ass to you he would still go to hell and back for you, all of the 3 other witchers are great bros even if they constantly shit on each other ^^

That that sequence was hilarious. Regretting bailing near the end when you
can drunk dial megascope the sorceress from earlier.

I finally went to Novigrad yesterday, and sought out specific sellers (e.g. only sold armor to armorers, swords to smithies, books to the bookseller). Went in with around 1000 crowns and useless Florens and Orens, left with 5000 crowns. Combine that with the random events in Novigrad...and its immensity. Day well spent.

So I just realized that maybe I didn't import my Witcher 2 save file correctly. :(

When I started the game, I tried to import my Witcher 2 save. I was given a list of save files and tried the one with the most "recent" date. Problem was, when I highlighted that save, it didn't really give information, it was displayed just as "Nothing" or something like that. I clicked that and the game began.

How will I know if this save import actually worked? Or rather, when will I get the first hint? Because at the end of White Orchard I haven't heard or read anything that referenced Witcher 2.

Thanks

So, I started last night. I'm in the process of the g
ryphon hunt, need to talk to the hunter.
The only side quests I've done are the
"merchant" saying he's lost his little box
, and the
frying pan.
What all do you guys recommend doing/getting in the White Orchard beginning part? I haven't explored too too much, but I don't want to end up overlooking something.

I'd definitely be sure to hit the job board in town and then explore all of the "?" spots on the map. There are a relative shitload of places of power (stones that give you ability points) in the starting area, and you definitely want to have your abilities as leveled up as possible before moving on to Velen.

Once you leave White Orchard (sorry for the confusion), you'll be given an audience with someone important. If a scribe doesn't question you about your past exploits during this sequence, then a save has been imported.

I'm kind of hoping once this game is completed...like months from now, we'll be able to do a post-mortem on the game and look at it from literary angles. As usual, Arthur Gies's review was pretty damning, highlighting a lot of (damaging?) fantasy tropes that found their way into The Witcher. On the whole, I disagree with his argument simply because I understand that this game is almost wholly Polish. It is Polish fantasy, made by a Polish company, for a worldwide audience. We shouldn't judge the game with the same American ideals that we would, say, Bioware's output. Furthermore, it's specifically low-fantasy...It is meant to show us the worst of ourselves, ala Neuromancer or Children of Men.

However, and we're gonna get spoilery here, he did specifically point out how (Bloody Baron Spoilers):
The game allows Geralt, at multiple instances, to sympathise with the Bloody Baron, whose alcoholism and wife-beating make him a seemingly irredeemable character. At the questlines' end, you're given one last chance to hear the Baron out, and he recalls how his wife cheated on him with one man while he was away at war. When the Baron returned, he slaughtered the man in front of his family, and that's when the history of abuse began. You're then given some options (I'm recalling from memory here): "You two deserve each other," "Still your fault," and "I don't care." I picked "still your fault," and this was one of the key instances where Geralt justified his argument in a way that didn't align with my thinking. Geralt said it was still the Baron's fault because he should've found a way to be with his wife even while he was at war. That's ridiculous. Obviously, you've got to serve. Geralt insists that there's always a choice, but I gotta disagree with him. However, it's still largely the Baron's fault for this whole shitty mess. He could've come back to fetch his wife, and not slaughtered the other man in front of her! That's the real transgression, and the one that slides this broken family into a family of abuse. Couples cheat...especially long-distance couples. However, the Baron pushes this ordeal into murder, and, in doing so, ruins his family. I thought, alongside Gies, that CDPR really mishandled this touchy subject. The women are victimized, and the men aren't rightly condemned. This is, after all, the low-fantasy of the Witcher...but by giving the player the choice to either relate to the Baron or damn him, CDPR should've offered more nuanced opinions than the ones they gave.
END RANT regarding feminism, fictional characters, blah blah blah

That whole scene was a real highlight.

This game has amazingly genuine depictions of friendship and romance, its so far beyond the usual tier.

Eh the dash is pretty cool once
you get an amulet that drops a fireball on you
.

The problem is that it's too unruly and probably too long, they need to tighten it and make it smaller.

Also the Voice Actress tries way too hard, I think she could be cool if she just relaxed a little.

The voice acting I'm most conflicted with is Yennefer's. She is really good, but a few times it's like she slips into a bad Morrigan impression. Luckily those moments are very few and far between.

Ah ok thanks. Hmm, well since I haven't even gotten to Novigrad yet (just about to leave White Orchard) I guess I still have a ways to go before knowing.

Mark somewhere on the map that you know such as an empty building then drop gear you dont need for now. It will stay there the entrie time. I've placed all mine in a hut next to a travel post so if I need something I can quick travel to it.

It stays there the entire game?

Should've kept the system from Witcher 2, sending out a ping was much less intrusive and annoying than this.

That would be worse for the ways it's used in this game. Imagine how many times you'd have to send out the ping if you were following footsteps or a sent.

Oh man Novigrad is great. So many Axii dialogue options :>*
Also: Horse races are bullshit. Why does my opponent (oh god will it be opponents in the future?) have unlimited stamina? Took me three tries to win that damn race T_T

EDIT: Aaaand I just died because I jumped down a flight of stairs. LMAO

Well tweak it, obviously. Or just remove all those terrible effects. Putting a filter and zooming the camera is annoying.

Just horse block them once you're ahead and need to slowdown. They will ram into your horse and slow down too. The AI is pretty dumb.

Yeah they should have implemented a system similar to the toxicity and heavily wounded states. Just put yellow things at the edges of the screen. It would impair your vision a little but still less than fish lens and it would be far less annoying.

man, I'm kinda bummed that I finished it last night. still have several side quests and monster contracts left at least. just looking for any excuse to stay in that world at this point. really curious how those 2 expansions are gonna turn out.

have a post-game question as well:
are Dandelion, Zoltan, Triss, Yen, etc. just gone from the game world in that post-game save they give you? went to Dandelion's cabaret and no one was there.

...No? I've never played that. But I have played Witcher 2, which my post was about.

Same system in DA:I?

In DAI you have to ping every couple steps to detect stuff, which is what you propose for Witcher 3. The former is a terrible system that was changed a lot after release, due to the frustration it caused. Pressing to hold is a far more elegant and useful solution, especially with the ghosting that allows for split-second activations to be informative.

I just stay ahead of them and clip them when they try to pass...But yeah, horse racing is probably the weakest of mini-games.

One of the markers with someone trapped in a cage bugged out. I think I ran away from the bandits the first time and now i cant get the key when I go back. I think its an important merchant that you can play Gwent with, hope they can patch this or there is a mod eventually for all the keys.
Witcher sense doesn't show any dropped loot? It's usually on the leader.

I reached a point where there is a cave you topple over some rocks, its around a village that at night is on fire, and there are burning bodies everywhere.
You also find a piece of the griffin armor upgrade there. and south there is a golem. Now.. the map shows a marker to use the lamp to see more about the area. I use it in front of the cave, and it shows someone mining, but he just keeps doing that. Is there a point to this? or is this a bug?

I did another instance of using the lamp earlier next to the pellar, with a ring and a ghost. That closed a quest.

Might want to take another look at my posts.

Thanks to everyone who suggested turning off the hud, makes the game much more atmospheric and enjoyable. Novigrad might be a bit annoying without the minimap though, we'll see.

Probably intentional- they likely don't want to encourage people to play in Arkham-like detective mode for the entire game.

I dunno, not sure that's much of a concern. Witcher sense doesn't really give you much useful info outside of quest beats. A zoom alone would be enough discouragement, it's the zoom/filter combo that really pushed it too far.
