It's British slang for "Thanks."

Unless you say it twice, then it means "Goodbye."

Unless you pluralize that, then it means "breasts."
Wow. I always thought people had typos when posting "ta" instead of "ty". Something new learned.
How come ta mean thanks though? Doesn't make sense.
Awesome screenshot of Ciri.
Damn, that is a great shot. PR material.
This thing.
That is nice of you. I read an article on how close to reality the locations in the game are.

Makes me want Yakuza only that much more 😴

Witcher 3 so good. Even on high settings its gorgeous. Wish I had it on Steam but GoG had better deal ):

I still haven't quite settled on a difficulty. For the moment I've stuck with Hard, but I can't help but feel that being able to insta-heal after tough encounters would make the experience a bit more enjoyable. Needless to say, I deeply regret not replaying the first two games in the lead-up to the release of 3.

Jeezus, being back with the desktop after a month with a laptop up close to my face and I feel like the display is huuuge even though the screen is kinda smal tbh. Not complaining though =)

Some people are trying to talk me out of getting the 970 and saying I should spend the extra $200 and get a 980. What do you all think?

Played this a couple of years ago when it came out. Pretty fun, will definitely get back into it.

I think you are thinking of Card Hunter, which is quite good, and came out a few years ago. This hasn't come out yet, and looks like it has lifted Card Hunter's aesthetic.

i actually think the opposite. it makes things way too easy. i prefer what hard and very hard do. more immersive.

Pass it on to someone more worthy. I don't really even know what lovecraft is.

creepy guy that wrote creepy horror books about weird alien gods and shit

it's like the unknown is scary not really because we don't know it but because we can't know it

something like that

Depends on your budget mainly and gaming setup. You play 4k, 120Hz?
Of course you get more absolute performance but you pay fairly a lot more money per performance-unit than 970/290.

I think 980 is not a good deal atm.

Yeah, that's the other side of the coin -- that the challenge forces me to play smarter and eventually the combat will "click".

It took me 25 hours to feel bad about how easy it was and just then I restarted on Death March

and im really not finding the game hard at all, but it's much more fun

You have to keep in mind that I'm more accustomed to playing games that more or less play themselves. :p

Nah, my current setup is 1080p/60hz (though I'm planning to upgrade to 1440p/120hz eventually).

I get the same feeling though, seems like the 980 is too expensive for what little performance increase I'll see, and the 970 is more in my price range. I could swing the extra $200 for the 980 if I needed to, but I'd much rather spend it on the Steam sale.

This sort of thing always ends up going so well...

I don't have much horror games on steam and there are bound to be cheap ones on the summer sale so its pretty doable.

EDIT: I already have Bad Rats so that horror game is not gonna happen.

So apparently, SSAA options in Stranger's Wrath HD are a no-no, since it causes the game to run at a slog pace. WIth FXAA it can run at 60 FPS no problems.

Anyone know if there are any other forms of AA I can mod into the game?

Playing on Death March and very much enjoying it. Earlier levels are the hardest actually. But once you get to around level 8 and upwards you'll get enough things at your disposal to counter every situations. Bombs for crowd control, signs for side damage/protection.

The bit about not regenerating health isn't a factor for me either since you'll get plenty of food, refillable potions and some regenerative skills at your disposal.

Mind you lower level enemies can still kill you easily if you're not careful. I was level 11 and a level 6 drowner blindsided me from behind and landed 2 critical hits and I'm dead.

Yeah, I'm still level 1, haha. In my travels I've cleared some guarded treasures and left the equipment for later as I wasn't far off from hitting level 2.

Edit: Oops, forgot to switch tabs.

I'd get the 970 now and upgrade again next year when its successor hits (there's little chance of Nvidia repeating "3.5GB-gate"). Unless you plan on pairing the 980 with another, there's no point in paying the premium.

I wouldn't do it, the extra $200 is too much for the performance increase of the 980. This 970 is really tempting too http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125684

Thanks guys, I'll be going with the 970 then. Just wanted to be sure before I locked my purchase in.

Review the benchmarks for both and see if the difference is worth $200. Personally I don't think it's worth it, but I'm content playing at 1080p/60fps.

How many games have content created for 4k? Star Citizen will....and? So long as consoles are a thing and 1080p is the most common HDTV resolution, 1080p will be more than enough for most multiplatform triple A games.

There's a passive-aggressive slight against your posting habits? o_O

No, this is just me not liking the increased use of "Ta." I've been seeing everywhere in place of Thanks/Thank you/ty lately. Internet search says it's normal for you Aussies, but in all the posts I've seen by you, it's only recently that I've noticed increased usage (as well as others too).

Thi sis what I got from Urban Dictionary and it seems plausible:

Fucking danes. Typical, hate them.

I definitely doubt we'll see segmented VRAM with their future architectures having 3D-Memory / Stacked memory or whatever the catch-phrase is nowadays.

I'm really looking forward to seeing mo' 'bout the 980ti, personally. Although I wont actually be touching it, my (currently borrowed) 780 ti or otherwise my standard, beefy ASUS 780 should be able to last me several years really, so I've not been fussed with Maxwell, though I do love a lot of what it's brought to the table in regards to the software suite for all of Nvidia's users! :p

970 is already struggling to achieve smooth 1080p 60 fps on newer games.
I think 98Ti will be able to handle that until next gen.

Near complete elimination of aliasing and pretty much pristine image quality isn't something that needs to be "created" for a game to benefit from being viewed at 4K.

This doesn't make sense to me. I have a fund of cash set aside waiting for a good GPU upgrade deal to come by, but I've already decided that double the VRAM of what I have is not enough. The 970 is already maxed out by some games in terms of that, like Mordor, where you need 4GB VRAM to use the highest settings; if this is the new trend, I'd much prefer to get a card with a little bit of "future-proofing" if possible.

I've had a coupon for Apotheon sitting in my inventory for a good while now... and I always through it was strange for it to expire 6/11/2015 @ 2:59:00am... but knowing the sale date now, it makes more sense.

Smooth 1080p/60 fps everything on Ultra, Witcher 3. It's maybe not future proof but enough for now. Seeing how consoles are holding PC back already in this gen, this should be enough to at least play any new game.

FTFY.

Play, sure.
Get good performance out of?
Maybe not.

I thought I was getting a higher end card when I grabbed my 770 and that I'd be good for a few years. Less than a year and a half later, I have games that I don't want to play because I want 1080p/60 and am not likely to get it. There's definitely a lesson in there about weighing your options before you jump on a card. Hindsight being 20/20 and all, I should've just splurged on a 780Ti... but not much I can do now except try to find a non-ridiculously priced solution for an upgrade that will last me a bit longer than 1.5 years.

Congrats on game number 663!

He's won 663 games? Daaaaamn, that's some impressive luck.
