Halo splitscreen co-op RIP 2001-2015

you'd think that the more powerful the consoles get, the easier it should be to render multiple views at once. shows how fucked up the industry's priorities are.

Yeah, it's a bummer, but I barely use it anymore anyways. And online co-op not requiring Gold kinda helps.

Not like the campaign is designed for CO-OP.

OH WAIT.

I'm disappointed, but 15 free maps...

Especially when you are targeting 60fps.

Darn.

My girlfriend and I spent years playing couch co-op. It was our go-to couch co-op game.

... Probably gonna give this a pass now. Shame.

Yup. Just like 4 player splitscreen multiplayer being dead. Even 2 player split screen is almost gone.

If the N64 and OG Xbox can do it, so you can the Xbone.

They have a product for people who want to play together in the same local area, it's called another Xbox One

First they cut local multiplayer down from 4 to 2 players. Now they're cutting split-screen co-op altogether?

Good grief.

I'll bet my bottom dollar that whatever in-game cinematic moments they're using to justify this won't amount to anything near the worth of what was lost.

edit: wait, online co-op is still in? Then what the hell gives?

I have extremely fond memories of co-oping through the first three Halo games. Any chance of me getting back into the series is gone.

Kind of a shame. : /

Man, not even if they reduced splitscreen mode to 30fps?

Makes me skeptical of how solid their 60 fps is going to be. Have they said that it's locked?

Meh. It sucks, but the other announcements balance it out for me.

I do remember the days of classic Halo split screen very fondly, though.

Off topic, but recently I played Goldeneye with 4 players, it was fun as hell but the controls though...

I'd love to say "It's okay, the Online Co-op being free more than makes up for it," but unless they've overhauled their online Co-op infrastructure it'll still be the same laggy mess that it's always been.

I never got much use out of the feature myself but it's still a shame. At least it's counterbalanced by other positives, though!

It's sad, and I hope they take the development time it frees to really polish the single player experience..

This isn't as big a blow in this day and age as it could of been just a few years ago, and I'm sure its all to so with keeping consistent and quality look and performance across the board.

I'll be honest, I expect this to happen to everything eventually. Racing games are even rare to have split screen in them.

Ah damn, thats a shame. Would always have fun running one of my lesser skilled cousins or friends through it, so they felt like they were contributing.

I'm disappointed, but I haven't used it since Halo 3. Most of my co-op play is done over Live.

That's probably MP related.

I don't think its power, I think its that less and less people actually care.

i thought it was supposed to at least have 2 player split screen. jesus Christ, this is fucking nuts. Halo without splitscreen. this is like.... if the next smash bros game were single player per console.

inb4 dudes with no perspective at all spout that ol 'gamers dont even do splitscreen anymore' bullshit like it was ever up to us

343 and Microsoft just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Halo culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame and especially SPLIT SCREEN COOP are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in other fps games where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Halo, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the Halo public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Halo 5 for Xbox One, nor will they purchase any of 343i's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but 343i has alienated an entire market with this move.

343i, publicly apologize and put in SPLIT SCREEN COOP for Halo 5 or you can kiss your business goodbye.
