This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
I think one of the reasons for the huge success is due to people who were kids when the original came out now taking their kids to this one to pass on the feelings of nostalgia/awe. It's going to continue to make a shitload of money.

That's what Disney tried to do with Tron Legacy.

There is something to this I think. When you see the success of something like F7 and now JW. It's not that superhero movies are done, or won't still be huge, but I said it in the other thread that JW is something my parents would go see and they wouldn't be caught dead going to something like Avengers or Batman/Superman. It feels like the bigger these extended comic book cinematic universes get, the more they might put a ceiling on the audiences that might go to see them. By the time Avengers 2 hit there's been a half dozen MCU movies for people to decide if they like that sort of thing or not. People might also be put off by the perceived barrier of entry of having to have watched the previous movies in the series and be able to follow along with characters and their storylines.

I agree with this. As someone who only casually watches super hero stuff, I am a bit burnt out on the genre. I didn't bother seeing the second Avengers movie because the novelty from the first had worn off and the movie , to me, looked almost exactly like the first one.

I do think if people who liked Jurassic World go back and rewatch JPIII, they're gonna find themselves liking it a little more than they did previously. The two films have a lot in common, really.

Its decent. Pterodactyl scene is great. Far better than 2.

First one is proper good but I don't think its one of the GOATs like many. Really only interested in this one because of Pratt.

Jurassic Park 1 was on like 4 or 5 seperate cable channels in the same time slot last week.

I think they want me to watch this movie

The movie isn't good exactly - the characters are absolute jokes, but the excitement over big budget dinos on screen and in non-crappy action adventure (unlike JP3) is enough. Imagine what will happen when we get a GREAT new JP.

I've never considered this. But then, Godzilla would (should?) have killed.

I guess it did have a 70mil+ opening

Godzilla never had the wide appeal of something like Jurassic Park, especially for kids. Kids and families seem to be turning out for JW.

Wow, this is amazing!

At the same time what is moving these numbers? Nostalgia must definitely be a factor. It rated so low but everyone seems to want to go see it.

The actors of this movie became 3x millionaires over night. Chris Pratt phone is ringing off the hook now, seriously.

Nostalgia like you said, a fucking huge marketing budget, and Chris Pratt.

I think a lot of people are seriously underestimating how big he's becoming right now.

Not bad, but not these numbers. JP3 is not even close. I really don't get it.

Ignore JP3 for a moment (even Universal knew that was a cash in). Jurassic Park is one of the biggest films of all time. $920M in 1993 was more impressive than anything we have had in recent years other than Avatar. The Lost World's $600M+ in 1997 is basically the equivalent of a $1B film today. I think it cracked the Worldwide Top 10 briefly.

Obviously the franchise had a huge audience in the 90s. Jurassic World was just able to re-connect to that audience a lot better than all of us expected.

Just you wait and see, everyone making fun of it will be so mad it made money

Is it PG-13 or R?

EDIT: Google Search says PG-13. Eff that shizz. Salvation was so bad. Poor Sam Worthington lol. He was the world's best Generic White Action Hero.

Didn't ever watch Rise of the Machines. Yeah guys, I don't think Genisys will do well. I'll eat crow, but I think the "nostalgia" should've kicked in with Salvation.

It's actually reviewed pretty decent. At least far better than I was expecting it to be.

Not only that, but people who grew up with Jurassic Park now have kids and are taking their kids to the movie now.

I thought the movie was fantastic with a really good balance of nostalgia and new. I think some of the lines in the movie have an interesting comparison to the Jurassic Park fans themselves.

Difference for me is that I like seeing a fully functioning park get destroyed, whereas old dilapidated stuff overtaken by jungle is so old at this point it puts me to sleep, and I think a lot of people are the same way too.

I don't know how people thought that an adventure movie about everyones favorite childhood animals running amok and eating people with good effects would not make money.
