excellent, new reward tiers is great news

but an, everyone is right about the ps4 physical copy
24k pledges for 30 bucks, only 3.8k are in for 60 bucks
i bet a tonnnnnn of those 30 dollar backers would switch to 60 if they could get a ps4 copy

6 jacket backers already -- there's 18k.

Yeah it was 7 but it looks like one of the guys from ShenmueDojo was one of the backers and he just backed out. He did it in kind of an instant without thinking kind of way and then quickly realised how he'd struggle to pay that amount of money so removed his pledge just now.

It'll be beyond 10 backers easily by the end of the night though. Posting a Kickstarter update as they added the tier was genius. Easy money almost instantly.

I'm at $50 (figured I might as well put in the cash for a full price game) but I would definitely pay $60 for a physical PS4 copy. My PC doesn't even have a disc drive lmao

I know I would.

Three planned in total with unknown stretch goals.

I have a feeling it'll feel different from the city aesthetic of the first (especially 2), but who knows how that will effect player interaction with the world.

Especially since this was announced on the Sony conference and therefore many of the early clicks are from Sony fans who might have no idea what the game even is.

I had no idea they were physical when I pledged my 500$. Works for me!
I had no idea what I was getting at all until the next morning haha

I assume there aren't any planned towns or cities for 3 to take place in, right? That's unfortunate, because if it was one thing Shenmue 1 and 2 absolutely nailed, it was the hustle and bustle of a sprawling urban area. I want more of that.

I know that by the end of 2, Ryo is heading more inland into rural China and away from the crowds, but I figured his journey would find himself in a city area again soon enough. I guess 3 will be all about the countryside.

Again. They need to add a PS4 physical. I'm sure MANY will up their pledges if that's announced.

Agreed. Thousands would either up their pledges or just opt for that version. Here's some personal anecdotal evidence; I'm a massive hardcore Shenmue fan that wants and intends to back this but I'm holding off from the PS4 digital version in the hopes that at some point a PS4 physical version is added. I'd love to back this but I'm holding out for what should be an inevitable PS4 physical version announcement. I'm certain many echo a similar sentiment.

Might just back it at $29 now anyway to show my support and then up my pledge later on if need be.

I'm similar. Threw in 15 just for the sake of helping out, but I'd put out up to 100 for a preorder of (a physical, console edition of) the game.

haha, love those dudes - dude was feeling some crazy emotions right then i bet

I really want to donate to this but I never got to play Shenmue 1 or 2 and my Dreamcast is dying and I don't own the games anyway.

I really want to know who to bug at SEGA, because the PC Ports Campaign got the community rep saying that the vocalization was great, but bombing the Sega handle on Twitter wasn't doing much because they were trying to sort through regular customers and such.

They need to add a tier between 500 and 3,000. Maybe a 1,000 tier.

Just a question of what will be in it if they do D:~ Something signed? Posters?

Replica got a lot of money! And looks like Fangamer is kinda involved hm... so the issue is finding someone to publish the discs then since for the other two games Deep Silver was involved with physical game discs.

Shoes, T shirts stuff like that would work as well I think.

China countryside is a thing of beauty, I'm fine with that and less, but more meaningful NPCs is like going back to the first Shenmue.

I always figured he would leave the urban area for the countryside. Disc 4 of Shenmue 2 was a change of pace and was already partial Shenmue 3.

I think he will end up back in Japan, or HK. But probably not in Shenmue 3 already. Hopefully not. It would be a waste if they cram everything in one game. I hope Shenmue 3 has the same pace as Shenmue 2.

Me. $100+ for a ps4 physical limited edition.
That I think is the right pricepoint. It'll sell insanely well. Maybe they'll save it for near the end of the Kickstarter and ride to the finish line in glorious fashion.

Ryo Jacket makes me feel better about the competence of the Kickstarter team.

I don't know how difficult it would be to make an HD version but I'd be happy if they could just do a straight port with updated control scheme.

Since they are happy with the PC sales of older games like Valkyria Chronicles I really think they should release an HD remaster for PC and PS4.

It's likely bullshit but after this week anything is possible.

Yeah that physical ps4 has definitely been the #1 requested. Given sony's involvement i wonder if they are in talks about this potential. It could be that you need a proper publisher to release physical and Sega is contractually limiting them from being ok with that, or that they are reserving the right to release a physical copy. Seems odd though given their shift to digital.

Jesus, 9 jacket backers now. This is really giving the Kickstarter a great boost.

EDIT: 10 now. The Shenmue passion knows no bounds.

SEGA already had one in production which they later cancelled.

Shenmue 1 & 2 HD from Sega is pretty much definite now I would have thought. The ports were cancelled due to concern over potential sales volume. Thanks to Sony it has been Shenmue mania for the past week and that will likely continue now until Shenmue 3 is released. Ports will be happening before the end of the year now. There's just no way in hell Sega's going to shy away from what will be a sure fire sales success. I wouldn't even be surprised to see some kind of fan-led movement and campaign to pressure Sega in to releasing the ports. The gaming sphere has gone Shenmue crazy recently so ports are almost a hundred percent certain now I would have thought.

Confident we'll see them in digital format before the year is out.

Those pesky legal problems though. There must be some way to overcome those and make it happen, there has to be.

I'm exactly in the same boat man, I'm holding out hope for a PS4 physical version to be added.

A gaffer made it.

Thanks. Still, Sega would be crazy not to.

I have an idea, is there someone who can make a small poster that we can print up?

Because I know someone at a local gamestop that would support this.

A GAF member made this as a joke in the E3 prediction thread since there was no way we were getting Shenmue news. (REKT)

I never said it wasn't happening. I'm on the team that it is happening otherwise SEGA is even more nuts than expected. I mentioned that they were in production because it means that a lot of the work is already done.

Those pesky legal problems though. There must be some way to overcome those and make it happen, there has to be.
What legal issues?
